My TravelBlog is all set up, and I'm hoping it works out like I hope it will for this summer. The goal is to be able to keep family and friends posted on my travels this summer while I'm gone without having to send out a mass email every week or so like I did while I was in Honduras in the summer of 2004. We'll see how it goes, though... Have a wonderful day for now, and I'll update again when the time gets closer!! I can't wait!!!! -Britt... read more

Last week, I had the pleasure of being able to drive clear across the wide state of Texas along Interstate 10 (all on the company nickel). First, I flew into El Paso on the morning of Feb 3rd and picked up a new Honda C-RV at a local dealership. This was the first part of my work in Texas. My job was to deliver it to a coworker in Houston. Now it off to San Antonio via the broad expanse of western Texas. Pretty cool scenery. I thought it was neat to see so much empty space for such a long distance. I spent the weekend visiting the parents plus Brent and Holly happened to be there at the same time. Played some golf and hung out for the most part. Also visited the Mission San ... read more

My last full day at home. Should be fun. My bro's band is in the talent show. I am going to go watch them rock. Then, I have to begin saying goodbye. I am going to miss my family, friends, and Sarah very much. However, it is only five weeks, and I will be so busy that I know it will fly by. Next time I write I will be in Paris!... read more

I'm sitting here at work, just a day and a half before I leave for my big trip around the world! I will be flying from Houston-Minneapolis-Tokyo-Singapore-Colombo-London-Chicago-Houston. My main stay will be in Sri Lanka for 3 1/2 weeks.... read more

Crazy/ out of my right mind...probably. Adventurous and courageous... I hope so. These are just a few of the words that I'm sure my family and friends will use when I actually leave on my dream trip around the world. Right now I'm sure they think I am just "talking to hear myself make a noise" (as good old Mom likes to say). Likely a lot of people would think that. I mean what do you think about a 31 year old single woman with 4 year old son to look after who has decided she is going to somehow make this dream a reality? Now it's not going to happen next week or even next year, mind you, but I have narrowed the departure date down to sometime between June 2009 and June 2019. 2019 ... read more

Well, the European adventure is finally over and I'm back home in good 'ol Texas. I got back on Friday, Oct 7th. It's been a couple of weeks, so I figured I needed to close out the trip with at least a lil sumthin' sumthin', cuz nobody likes an unfinished story. My last week in the Netherlands was a blast. That Monday was the last quiz night, so the shoarma pizza tasted extra good, as did the sweet victory we pulled on the rest of the teams. Sure, I forgot that Nelly Furtado is the artist for 'I'm Like a Bird' in the music round, but I feel like more of a man for doing so. The Cloister really made my last quiz special; Helmur, Arno and company presented me with a big bottle of La ... read more

I'm currently drinking a dirty gin martini with a blue cheese stuffed olive after a long day of sunbathing and dog walking. The 5 of us (mom, dad, 2 puppies, and me) are in such a state of limbo that we don't quite know what to do with ourselves. As I'm sure you are all aware, Hurricane Rita is slowly waiting to show her wrath to East Texas. Everything in the entire city is closed. Gas stations have no gas...grocery stores have no water or ice. There were 3 clouds in the sky the entire day today and there was a pleasant breeze that felt incredibly nice in the 98 degree heat. I bought some margarita mix and some tequila and I will entertain the fam with some hurricane rita margaritas in a couple hours. Maybe ... read more

Only choice words can begin to describe how I have been feeling this past week. Even then, I'm not sure if they will do it justice, as much has passed between my last entry and today. Hurricane Katrina was absolutely devastating. From the eyes of an onlooker, one can see the lasting impressions it left on thousands- millions as it affected this entire country at different levels. However, from the eyes of someone who has seen that carnage at point blank range, it looks even worse. I have been making it my new routine to go to the Astrodome 2 or 3 times a week to do whatever I can. I'm not sure if it makes it better or worse for me, because every time I leave it wrenches my heart to see all the people ... read more

This is why I hate pictures of myself when I'm overweight. Look! It's a fat Tom Hanks - except he's finally outside the terminal! Thanks for your notes of support. First posting tomorrow from Berlin. To those who don't know my next 28 days will look like this: IAH/FRA/TXL/FRA/EDI/LHR/SIN/BKK/SYD/SIN/HKG/ORD/IAH. Off on LH 441 in about 10 minutes. Much more to talk about tomorrow, I'm sure. Just had to add the hideous picture to my report. I promise it will be one of the very few of me you'll see in this blog...!!! -g... read more

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I can only think about how similar the pictures look of the the Indonesian Tsunami. Utter destruction, helpless families with no food or water...and this is only 250 miles away from me. After my interview with Babbin's Fish Restaurant (it went well...I'm supposed to be called this weekend) I made up my mind to do my part to help the victims of this massive storm. Come Tuesday morning, (after the Labor Day Lake House weekend) I decided to commit myself to helping in any way possible. My dad got an email today saying that they were paying people $9/hour to help out at the Astrodome. If its serving food or making some kind of financial decisions, I would like to do my part. For those of you who would like ... read more
