Johnny Cash, Presley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee lewis,... ... read more

Round Robin Quilt - Sonia's Reveal Thank you all for all of the comments on the 2 quilts so far! We are really enjoying sharing our project with you all! A point of note, as any of us make comments about the other quilts that we have worked on, near the bottom of the blog there is a "Previous Entry" and an "Next Entry" button that you can scroll back and forth if you need to have a visual reference of what we are talking about. It's Sonia's turn! Her quilt has something very unique that I wish I had thought of! She asked all of us to not only participate in the quilt itself, but also to add some of our thoughts of what family means to us in writing. And Sonia said .... "I ... read more

Round Robin Quilt - Tonya's Reveal As we move to the second quilt, and before I pass the mike to Tonya, I have a couple of things to add to the previous blog that people have asked about. Keep the questions coming! We are loving the comments! To know who did which section, each of us signed our name and date on the bottom of the section that we completed. None of them are quilted yet. We each will decide how to quilt them ourselves. Unless of course we get the idea to have a quilting bee! MMM? Not a bad idea? No, we did not have any pattern in mind when we started, we just winged it as the notion hit us! If you see anything written in italics that is me adding something in. ... read more

Round Robin Quilt – Tammy’s reveal Christmas 2013 my mom gave me a quilting magazine that had an article in it about 4 friends who did a round robin quilt. It was so intriguing that I finished reading the article while we were driving home from Mom’s house and before I got home I had already called everyone to see if they were up for the challenge. We all love to quilt, so it was a 100% on board. We came up with a set of ground rules and a schedule for completion. Here's what we did .... the finished quilts are absolutely amazing! I hope you enjoy. Each one of us was to buy all of our own fabric and create, and piece, a center block out of those fabrics. No limits on the pattern, ... read more

Well we're off to Arizona for the Winter of 2015. Left home early on January 8th and drove through -17 degrees Celcius temperatures and snow packed roads until we reached Kentucky. Arrived in Nashville 12 1/2 hours later. Nashville, the home to Country Music, is a very interesting city. Of course we experienced quite a few "Honky Tonks" where music talent is in abundance. Visited the recently opened Johnny Cash museum and of course the Country Music Hall of Fame. Both are worth the time and money. And as a climax, on Saturday night, went to the Grand Ole Opry which is such an experience if your a country music fan. Even Debra enjoyed it! The show is held in the winter at the original Ryman Auditorium which made the performances even more memorable. A Canadian ... read more

September 28, 2014 (Sunday) (Double click on a picture to enlarge it) I had originally planned on going to the Casey Jones village in Jackson when I left the hotel this morning however changed my mind after doing some research and driving by it. So, instead I went to the Cypress Grove Park and did a short hike. When I arrived at the park there were two older men sitting at some picnic tables and no one else was there. I went any way and keep looking over my shoulder the whole time to make sure no one was following me. I’ve been reading too many murder mystery book. I did put my emergency contact ID in my pocket so if my body was found they would know who to contact. (I have a great imagination.) ... read more

Next stop was Nashville. I had heard the real estate prices were the highest in the state here. But it is also the tourist capital of Tennessee, so the rents may support higher prices. I looked at about 20 deals, and the better deals seemed to be just south of Nashville, but before making any offers, I wanted to see Knoxville.... read more

Geo: 36.1682, -86.7772After yesterday's disastrous drive, and subsequent incredible music evening, we found ourselves enjoying the luxury of a long lie in. After a very late entry into breakfast and consuming the morning's dregs, we headed back down the hill to the main tourist attraction in Nashville, the Country Music Hall of Fame. Home to an incredible array of memorabilia, footage and photographs, it was a thorough walk through the history of the genre. Spread over three floors, there was an immense amount of information to read and marvel at. We were also given an audio guide, which gave extra anecdotal information about many of the exhibits. We saw Dolly's dresses, boots belonging to Alan Jackson, a huge display dedicated to Kenny Rogers, dresses worn by winners of the CMAs and cowboy hats a-plenty! There were ... read more

Geo: 36.1682, -86.7772After a poor night's sleep, our attempts at slumber thwarted by the sporadic roar of the air conditioning and the intermittent ping of the lift outside the door every time it reached our floor, we had our breakfast, served on polystyrene plates and eaten with plastic cutlery. As far as breakfasts go, for a Marriott Hotel in the middle of the tourist district, it was a pretty poor comparison to ones we have enjoyed in small hostels and guest houses across the world. We took the refund the hotel offered us and hastily hopped into our car to get across town to the main event of Memphis as far as we were concerned, and the main reason for our visit here. Elvis Presley's Graceland is world famous. Pilgrimages from across the globe have been ... read more
