As we approach Nashville, the countryside seems more hilly with lot of deciduous trees. The trees are still without leaves - a sure sign we are heading north. We left Graceland about 11:30am and decide we can make Nashville for the Grand Ole Opry that night. We are rushing it a bit because the Opry only plays Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and we are arriving Tuesday so may not want to spend that much time in Nashville waiting for the Friday show. We book the Comfort Inn in Music Valley and arrive in time to unload, get something to eat and head to the Opry. It was very good and nearly full so we feel lucky we got tickets. There were 7 or 8 entertainers, some old timers and some new entertainers. We enjoyed John Conlee, ... read more

If you knew me, you'd know that I am a die hard country music fan. So, this trip was really something of a dream for me- my whole family at that. I've been to Nashville three times now because we just can't get enough of it. Every time I go, there are new performers at the Grand Ole Opry or Bridgestone Arena. If you like country music and you like history, then go to the Opry. That building's been around forever, and it's amazing to have the opportunity to see a concert in there. Another must is the Country Music Hall of Fame. It showcases all of the Opry members, including the classics like Hank Williams and Loretta Lynn. If you want more from the stars, take a Home of the Stars bus tour. A guide ... read more

Saturday Nov. 3rd - Left Telluride today, bound for Nashville. After a quick stop at a natural hot spring, we buckled down for a long day of driving. We stopped for a late lunch/early dinner at the Frontier Restaurant, across from the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque. It had been featured on an episode of Man vs. Food. Cheap, delicious, and filling:) Drove long into the night, making it into Oklahoma before pulling over for a nap, which was an hour longer thanks to daylight savings. Sunday Nov. 4th - Woke up early and pressed on for Tennessee. We arrived in Nashville right around dinner time, and Allison's cousin Sam, his wife Brynn, and their 8 month old daughter Freya took us out to their favorite dinner spot. Afterwards Sam showed us around downtown. ... read more

By Jane Schultz Phantom Press Nashville is known as the home of country music and is often associated with hungry country star wannabes, but the thriving metropolis also holds a lot of great urban culture underneath its 10 gallon cowboy hat. While the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame are a few classic staples of this spectacular town, Music City has plenty to offer its residents and the 10 million visitors who travel through here annually. From drinks and eats, to visual and audible treats, the capital of Tennessee is sure to satisfy. Nashville's job growth is one of the fastest in the country, creating a steady influx of new residents every year. So whether you're planning to quit your job and move to Nashville, or just in need of a getaway, here ... read more

Last night was definately one of the highlights of this summers adventures for Sally and I. You can't visit Nasville Tennessee with seeing the Grand Ole Opry whether you are a country music fan or not. Like the banner on the front of the building says, this is 'The Show that made Country Music Famous'. The Opry House just reopened this year after being flooded in the summer of 2010 by over 14 inches of rain in the Nashville area. The cumberland river which runs right behind the Opry House overflowed it's bank which resulted in serious flooding of the Opry House. The Roy Acuff theater was located to the right of the Opry House and it was damaged so severely that it was a complete loss and had to be demolished. The Grand Ole Opry ... read more

Hi all, It's been a while since I've had a chance to update this, so right now I am in New Orleans and trying to cast my mind back and remember exactly what we did in the awesome city of Nashville. The flight from Vegas went smoothly but unfortunately I arrived late in Nashville after my flight from Houston was delayed. Luckily I managed to find Louise in the airport after the very helpful staff there put out a message for her over the tannoy system. By the time we got to the hostel it was about 1am so we crashed out pretty quickly. The next day (and we're onto Friday 24th August now) we explored the area surrounding the hostel before heading downtown. The main place to head in Nashville (for tourists at least) is ... read more

We drove today from Cleveland and made great time, because we gained an hour and are now in central time. We relaxed at campsite and headed downtown to the Music Venue area on Broadway in downtown. Walked around and got the feel of Music City, lots of live music, and tourists, saw the Ryman Auditorium where they held the original Grand Old Opry and a few other sights. On to Arkansas in the morning...... read more

My best friends sister, now a weekend DJ on local radio in Australia, dedicates here 4-hour show each week to strictly country music. I couldn’t understand it? How could a city slicker girl spend a few years in an Australian country town to study and come back? Then hate the city life enough to move north of Sydney and go on radio to promote country music… By making people listen to it? Country and Western music is a niche genre in world terms; there are only a few countries, which give it time enough to produce. Australia is one but it has rarely seen complete nationwide success. Instead city folk more so ridicule it. I was one of them and probably still was until I reached the home of Country, Nashville, Tennessee. Timing would have it ... read more
