Sunday started very slowly for Brittney and I, Patty on the other hand was bounding around, fresh as a daisy early on. As we started the day a little leisurely, it seemed apt to have a leisurely brunch in an almost French (ish) patisserie before heading to the country music hall of fame. I've got to be honest, aside from Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, etc I'm not too up to speed on my country music but with plenty of help from my resident country music lover Brittney I got caught up quickly. The museum is huge, and you start at the top and work your way forward in time (is there any other way?!) and end right up in the present AKA the gift shop! There was a sort of workshop/demonstration of a harmonica but two ... read more

NASHVILLE! First order of business yesterday was moving from our hotel out of town to a hotel just a block or two away from Broadway and printers alley. Then on to breakfast at Puckets Grocery. I use the term breakfast pretty loosely, Brittney and I had pulled pork with sweet potato pancakes and Patty had brisket hash on a cornbread waffle. It was all amazing! They did actually out a fried egg on top so that we knew it was supposed to be breakfast! It's been such a perfect temperature whilst we've been here, just great walking weather so we walked a fair ways around the city and then got a taxi to East Nashville. It is such a cool place! Lovely streets of arty houses with perfect gardens. Some had wrap around porches with rocking ... read more

Yesterday was a busy day after two blissful relaxing days. I wanted to get a little but more time in the sunshine before I went up to Orlando to meet with Patty so I got up and took my self off onto the beach. There wasn't another soul in either direction when I got down there and it more or less stayed that way until I had to leave to get ready for my trip a couple of hours later. I loved staying at the Seascape Motel, it wasn't a resort, and it wasn't luxury but it was clean, and the staff were fabulous and my room was just steps away from the beach. When I come back here in the future, I think that will be my go to relaxation place! I took a leisurely ... read more

On our way to Nashville today! It stop was for breakfast at Cracker Barrell... food was so cheap not even $10 for pancakes, eggs, sausages and tea! We then went to set up camp then went to the shooting range to fire my first ever gun at Nashville Armory... the safety video was quite intimidating as there were obviously alot of rule to follow, luckily a supervisor helped us which we were in the range and taught us how to use the guns we hired! Didn't do too bad with the target however I got more and more nervous the longer I was holding the gun (my fav was the revolver which was simple to use). After the gun range we went back to camp and I did a bit of laundry and then we caught ... read more

Arriving in Nashville after 8 hours driving, it's confirmed that driving in the states is a no brainer (why was I ever worried??), and the GPS that Chris gave me is a life saver (I thought I lost it when I was packing up and leaving Nashville, I almost had a panic attack). I stayed in this wonderful house in the suburbs of Nashville, with 2 cheeky cats who kept trying to break into my room. The lady I was staying with was this super cool chick with the downlow it seemed of all the music places that were worth seeing. On her recommendation, after Aaron showed up, we went to the Peg Leg Porker for my first dry rub ribs. Oh. My. God. Foodgasm, in my mouth. It happened. As Bluegrass sends shivers down my ... read more

After lunch with John and Lucci we went over to Gallatin to see our grand-daughter Savannah and her boyfriend for pictures before his prom. Then later we had dinner with Joe, his wife Dara, our granddaughter Brittany, her husband Casey and our great grandson Braylen. Whenever Braylen is asked where his beard is he grabs his chin.... read more

After resting up on Friday and seeing our son and his family, we went to lunch with John and Lucci Barry. John has been my spiritual mentor for the past seven years, since shortly after we began attending Northridge Church in White House, TN. Over that time span he not only was my mentor, but he became my best friend. We had a wonderful time catching up on what had happened the past five months.... read more

Dec. 24, 2013. Like Jessie, the native Nashvillian and Andrew, the ex-New Yorker/neo Nashvillian, warned us, the weather turned decidedly colder after the storm. I checked the weather on the computer this morning and it was colder in Nashville than it was in Rockville Centre. So much for my dreams of a "Tender Tennessee Christmas." We have managed to go out quite a bit and it's funny to see how Nashvillians dress for the cold...some are still in shirtsleeves while others wear a hoodie and then there are the people dressed up like Eskimos. I've had a wonderful time decorating Andrew's house (mostly at his request). I haven't done any arts and crafts projects in ages...was so much fun getting "crafty" again. I made a wreath for the front of the house and centerpieces for the ... read more

Now that I am retired, Jim and I are finally able to head south for the winter and be the snowbirds we always envied. The first leg of this trip is driving to Nashville to be with Andrew in his new house for Christmas. We left Long Island on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 4:30 AM and headed west. We love leaving at that hour of the morning because it's so much easier getting over the bridges and out of the City. We were over the Verrazano Bridge by 5:00 and heading west on Highway 78 by 5:30-6:00. It's a little hard getting up and out of the house by that time, but we're used to it and the anticipation of the trip makes it part of the adventure. It was so beautiful watching the sky lighten ... read more
