I haven't written in quite awhile, which makes me a little sad. I haven't done as much traveling lately as I would have liked, but I also haven't been 100% stuck in one place either. This was quite awhile ago, but in January of this year (2013) I took a trip to Nashville. It was cold, but I really enjoyed the city. In fact, I feel like with my career path I will probably end up moving there at some point since that is where all the companies I'd like to work for are located. Some pros about Nashville: -It is HUGE in the music scene. Travel is only second to my love of music, and there is always something going on in Nashville related to music. I love that. -It is really close to drive ... read more

The last posting in October said we were leaving on the 26th, but we had an issue with the paperwork for our dog, Maggie and cat, Bear. So, we were delayed by a week. Changes to airline tickets, reservation in Guayaquil and Cuenca. We took off from Nashville at 12 Noon on the 2nd of November layed over in Miami for a few hours and then arrived in Guayaquil about 10 PM. After collecting all our bags and our pets, we were greeted by the owner of Iguanazul, the hostel that we made reservations, to relax for a few days before heading up to Cuenca. We knew things would be crazy for a while, getting our new home set up, so decided to take a few days of relaxation. The better picture of the sunset on ... read more

Nashville Sept 19 ... On the Road Again... At 4 foot 10 in. height, Little Jimmy Dickens shuffled into the spotlights of the Grand Ole Opry stage in his blue rhinestone-bejeweled outfit, towering cowboy hat stuck high on his head stretching his stature well above 5 feet tall. In the heady days of years earlier he would stride out with a big electric smile and a guitar strapped around his neck to stand small at the microphone in the famed oak-wood circle at centre stage. For decades, Little Jim... read more

The drive from Tupelo MS to the Nashville Country RV Park in Goodlettsville TN (a north Nashville suburb) on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 was just over 200 miles and gave me the opportunity to enjoy the final stretch of the Natchez Trace Parkway. This RV park is very nice for the Nashville visitor. The sites are spacious and level, all have a concrete pad with a picnic table and many offer partial shade. A shuttle is available for a reasonable price; however, the first trip into town isn’t until late morning. That works well for the “been to the honky-tonks last night” crowd but not quite as well for the “I want to see the state capitol” crowd. In all fairness, the owner/operator of the shuttle puts in W-A-Y long hours and deserves a good night ... read more

Today was a short but sweet day with only two stops. The first stop found Jess & I at the Kansas City Public Library to view a mural of library books painted on the parking garage. It’s a sight to see if you are in the area. Our last stop of the trip was to the Moon Marble Company in Boomer Springs, KS. At this hole-in-the-wall joint you can find a range of nostalgia and niche toys, but forget about those, let’s talk about the main attractions, marbles!!!! You can wait a 15 minute demonstration on how handmade marbles are made from start to finish. Jess & and I purchased handmade marbles made by our demonstrator, Ernie!! Nice to know we have a one-of-a-kind souvenir from our road trip! After we procured our marbles, the Road ... read more

So Matt has been home from Afghanistan for three weeks and we're leaving on our post-deployment vacation. We realized that we've seen so much of the rest of the world but really not that much of America, so we're staying domestic for the majority of this vacation. We're spending 10 days in Alaska, 4 days in Seattle, and 2 days in Vancouver. We left today to fly to Fairbanks, which was going to take three connecting flights...Nashville to Dallas, Dallas to Seattle, and Seattle to Fairbanks. We left the house at a little after 10:00am to drive to my sister's...she's going to take my car for the duration of the vacation (along with the dogs) and drop us off at the airport, God bless her. On the way to the airport I get a text message ... read more

Had a great week visiting with my sisters in Nashville with the highlight being a trip to the Grand Ole Opry last night. One of the best concerts I have seen in a long time. Entertainers included Loren Alaina from American Idol 2012, Josh Turner, Charlie Pride, Mel Tillis, Casey James (also from American Idol but not sure which year), Whispering Bill Anderson, Jim Ed Brown, Jeanie Seely, and Carrie Underwood. Carrie Underwood was celebrating her fifth year as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. We leave Nashville this morning and head to Dollywood in eastern Tennessee. Enjoy the pictures.... read more

Went to pick up our tickets to Friday nights Grand Old Opry show this morning. The Gaylord Opryland Resort is right next door. We didn't get a change to tour the resort when we were in Nashville last year so we decided this was a must see for this visit. The Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center is the largest convention hotel in the world, outside of Las Vegas. The hotel covers an area of 52 acres and the resort staff consists of 96 different Nationalities. The hotel was built in four different phases starting in 1977. The first phase (Magnolia) consisted of 600 guest rooms. When completed in 1996 the resort consisted of 2881 guestrooms. The Garden Conservatory was completed in 1983 as part of Phase 2. Phase 3, The Cascades, was completed in 1988 ... read more

Arrived at my sisters in Nashville yesterday, 1 June. We originally planned to arrive in Nashville today, 2 June, but we wanted to get off the road due to the threat of severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes in Western and Central Tennessee. Thankfully we took a more southern route this year in order to visit my brother-in-law in Dallas for a few days so we missed all the storms in Oklahoma. This years trip hasn't gone quite as smoothly as last years trip did. It started on our first day in Phoenix when we plugged the lights and brakes for the car into the motorhome. We were having problems getting a good connection which resulted in issues with the brakes between the car and motorhome. After applying a little electrical grease to both ends of the ... read more

Thursday morning we took the Grayline Home of the Stars tour. Amazingly the driver was the son of Dan Seals (a couple songs "Everything that Glitter is not Gold, "Meet Me in Montana" and a lot more). Dan Seals died at 61, but obviously didn't leave a fortune to this son. But he was an excellent guide with lots of good and humorous stories. We saw some fabulous homes including Dolly Parton's and Taylor Swift. Unfortunately I didn't write them down and after the tour couldn't remember who's was who's so you will just see some pictures of nice celebrity homes. Oh well - it was interesting at the time. Not bad for taken out of the bus window on the move. We had the tour driver drop us off at the Country Music Hall of ... read more
