I had really wanted to do a traditional Southern Sunday Brunch but with timing of our kayaking tour we had to settle for breakfast. I had heard Stanley's was good, and it was actually open early enough, so we headed over to Jackson Square. Anna was hungover- I felt great surprisingly. We ended up getting Bloody Mary's- hair of the dog. Anna also ordered an oyster Po'Boy with some giant freakin oysters in it, and I had a Seafood Sampler platter with egg Benedict going on. We woke to beautiful sunshine and blue skies. Great day to head to the Bayou to see some gators. No one seems overly excited to go on an airboat excursion. In their defense, no one really knew what it was. It was on my bucket list. I always thought it would be in the Everglades not in the Bayou of Louisiana in the Batateria Preserve. The weather was sunny and about 65/67. Warm in the sun but cool when speeding on the boat. Perfect day. It has been a while since I last put my thoughts down on paper. I thought my trip for spring break would be a good moment to pick it up again. At the moment of writing I am sitting in the lounge of my hostel. I just unpacked all my stuff and got my self familiar with the place. The hostel I am staying at (The Atlas House) is in a quiet neighborhood in New Orleans. The conditions under which I am travelling are far from ideal though. It seems like I have caught a cold last week, which results in my throat burning every time I swallow and more importantly; sleepless nights. However, I don’t let it get me down. Hi everyone We thought that our trip to New Orleans deserved a blog of its own as it is really like nowhere else during Mardi Gras!! We didn't really know too much about it or what to expect in the way of parades but we have to say that all our expectations have been well and truly exceeded. There is a build up to Mardi Gras that takes place in the city from the beginning of January with various parades that are organised by 'Krewes' which are different groups that theme their parades and organise all their own floats and routes. They take place all over the city but usually end in the historic French quarter. The Krewes have pre parade parties and end of parade parties and the whole parade is a big party!! Aside from the unnecessary stops at awkward times of the night we are really getting into travelling by bus in the US now. Our trip from Nashville to Memphis is probably the most amusing to date. We guess if you are a long distance bus driver you have to keep yourself amused some how. Our driver was no exception. We found ourselves chuckling away as she reeled off one liners with her southern drawl throughout the whole journey. We tried to remember some and wrote down a few.
