Welcome, This will be the spot where you can follow me on my semester abroad in Athens, Greece. I do not officially begin my trip until February the 3rd but I thought it would be good to get this up and running. I will be posting pictures, sharing experiences, and just generally keeping everyone back home updated on my trip. If there is anything that you would like to see in particular please let me know. With that said, welcome once again and I will be posting again soon. Have a great day! -Brooks Dozier... read more

Well everyone, just a note to say that I am back home safe and sound! The trip to Zanzibar was amazing. When we got to the hotel in Paje we had to sit at the restaurant to wait for our room. It wasn't too difficult given the face the restaurant was facing the ocean. We sat on a comfy couch enjoying the soft breeze and green waves. Seriously, I don't think Karen or I said anything for a hour. We just sat and relaxed which was the perfect way to end the trip. We stayed at the Kinazi Upepo which was great and had a little bungalow on the beach. Paje is on the east side of the island and has powdery white sand beaches and light green water. I loved the fact that there was ... read more

Okay, so I was asked to carry the American Legion Auxiliary banner in the post color guard for the Overland Park, KS parade. I rode my bike to the Legion post building (AL post 370, Overland Park) and I wore my American Legion Riders vest in the parade, so its still going to count as a bike event and be included my blog here. The day started around 10AM as I had volunteered to help decorate the Aux float that morning. When I got to the post Norma the AUX president wasn’t there yet so I sat and had a great conversation with Rabbit a fellow ALR member. Rabbit is such a teddy bear, calm, confident and you just feel secure being around him. So I asked him if he had any inclination to help with ... read more

Just a quick note to share some photos. My guest room has become a disaster zone but the upside is that I've got most of my items packed. I highly recommend the folding/packing things - don't know what they are called but I'll include a photo for you. I had two wonderful going away parties this weekend. Thanks to my family and friends for making my last weekend so much fun. You guys are the best! Here's some background info on Tanzania and Moshi... Tanzania, officially the United Republic of Tanzania, is the southern most country in East Africa. Its mainland borders Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia in the south; Congo (Kinshasa), Burundi, and Rwanda on the west; Uganda and Kenya in the north; and the Indian Ocean in the east. Lake Nyasa forms part of the ... read more

Testing, testing, 1 -2 - 3. Well, I am 9 days away from leaving for my trip and getting very excited. Some background for those who may not know...I am going to spend a month in Tanzania volunteering through Cross Cultural Solutions (CCS). I've always wanted to go to Africa and when I read about "volunteering vacations" I decided that would be a great solution. I want to be able to do something useful for the community and get a better understanding of life in Africa that I wouldn't get if I simply went on a safari. I will be staying at the CCS Karanga house in Moshi which is a small town right at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Moshi just won the "Cleanest City in Tanzania" award and has major amenities like banks, hotels, ... read more

Hello everyone, I hope that you are having a wonderful holiday season! As many of you know, I will be studying abroad during the 2007 Spring Semester. The study abroad program is sponsored by the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan and there are 40 American students participating in this program. I am leaving December 31, 2006 and heading to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia where I will be taking law school classes at Monash University. I will be in Melbourne until February 17, 2007 and then will be flying to Christchurch, New Zealand (South Island) where I will be taking law school classes at Canterbury University. I will be in Christchurch until April 15, 2007 when I will be returning back to Kansas. I will not be taking my cell phone, so my primary means of ... read more

So, this weekend I ran some errands around town. I knew exactly where I was going and how long it would take to get there. It's weird to know that in 3 days, I will know nothing. It's kind of making me feel anxious. Murr. Last night, I packed for a couple of hours. I got these bags that suction out air from clothes that I will recommend to everyone traveling. The bag squished my winter coats and vests down to the size of one sweater. It was amazing! Get these bags! A year is a long time. It's strange to know how many pair of pants I'll need. And what jewelry to bring. It's a tricky business. I'll miss you guys! Love you! Bon Voyage party on Wednesday and then Bon Voyage for good on ... read more

One week until go time. I bought a 5 piece luggage set today. I have enough luggage for a small army. I also got a traveling alarm clock (that doesn't tick--thank god), voltage adaptor, and other random necessities. I'm feeling very stressed out for no reason. I pretty much have everything done..well almost everything..but I also have one week to sit around and stew and think about what I have to do. I am content and ready to leave. I had an amazing weekend in Manhattan that was so enjoyable that I couldn't feel sad I was leaving....because I know I get to come back to these awesome friends. Does that make sense? Sí. I also have an awesome going away party to look forward to. Fun will be had by all! So this is my ... read more

Winter is here in Overland Park, Kansas. We just had over 10 inches of snow last week from a snow storm that hit the whole midwest and northeast. It is time for me to learn from our feathered friends and start the southward migration. I have 2 weeks vacation left from work and not much money left in the bank. So, it is an easy choice for me to choose driving than flying. I am so jealous on you - Mr. Goose, if only I could fly. With the choice of transportation set, a road trip plan is born. I will be driving from the heartland of the country to the Southwest - New Mexico and Arizona - along the way passing panhandle Texas and Oklahoma. I had a side plan to cross the US-Mexican border ... read more
