Day two in Hawaii we went on a tour. We were only on the bus a few minutes when our tour guide informed us that her favourite topic was food, not Hawaii! She held true and talked continuously about food. She pointed out all the places to eat and great places to buy food supplies while she toured through the streets of Waikiki and Honolulu. Our first and actually only stop was the Pearl Harbour Arizona memorial. The place was packed with American tourists. We watched a short movie before going on a boat ride to the memorial boat. The boat was bombed during Japan’s attack during WWII. Unlike most of the boats this ship remains under the water and still entombs its many once sailors. The boat now has a memorial on top for ... read more

We eventually arrived in Hawaii, rather tired but ready for our big adventure to start. We were greeted at the airport by our transfer. Everyone kept saying ‘Aloha’ to us since we weren’t accustom to it all we kept saying was ‘Mmmmm.’ ... read more

For our first day in Hawaii we walked up and down the main street in Waikiki. We had lunch at a typical American restaurant, hamburgers. They even asked ‘how you would like your hamburger cooked.’ It wasn’t long before we found our selves in a shooting gallery. We got to shoot some automatic weapons, which was pretty cool considering anybody could walk off the street and fire these guns and I (George) got to fire my all time favourite gun the Russian made AK-47 and that made my day. The glasses that we had to wear were just an added bonus. ... read more

Tourists among tourists North America » United States » Hawaii » Oahu » Waikiki By luckytravelgirlFebruary 17th 2007Kristin B.Today we went to the Waikiki Aquarium and the Honolulu Zoo. That took just about all day, since we had to deal with Waikiki traffic. So many cars, so little island. But it was beautiful, even when it rained!... read more

Aloha and Happy Valentine's Day!! We are enjoying our last few days of sunshine before heading back to the cold on the Mainland. We have tried to make the best of our unexpected and extended stay in Honolulu. I thought some news and some photos would prove that we are back in business. As you can see I had a very nice Valentine's Day. Not only did I get this beautiful Lei, I also received tickets to see Norah Jones. He's a pretty special guy and I am feeling pretty special too! We were here for two major sporting events. The first was the 22nd Annual Outrigger Canoe Races. Now that was an exciting time!!! The races went on for 6 hours, but we only stayed for about 30 minutes. There was a good turn-out and ... read more

Yesterday we finally made it to the beach. I wanted to go again today, but the sunburn just won't allow me to do that. It's not too terrible, but it's enough to keep me off the pretty beach. We went out to Bellows AFB, which during the week is for military families only. Absolutely gorgeous view! And there were maybe twenty people along the mile or so of coastline. I read and enjoyed the sun, and Jerry played in the water like a kid. Then last night we hopped over the the Navy Exchange and I got something very nice! A lovely Coach purse! I will send pictures when I get home, as it is currently in its pretty little (and by that I mean big) bag and packed in my suitcase. I also got ... read more

What a day! Let me just say that there is only so much island, and all of us are trying to drive it. The traffic here is horrific. So if we move here, it will definitely be many miles from Waikiki. Anyhow, we left this morning and headed for the Punchbowl, which is the National Memorial Cemetary of the Pacific. It contains the graves of thousands in the crater of an old volcano. Absolutely humbling, and I have to say the views were breathtaking. Then on to drive up Tantalus. I now know something the guide book did not tell me: Tantalus is a one person trip. Because inevitably the person who is not driving will end up nauseated clinging to the door. Quite a road. Next time, I drive. We stopped at a roadside ... read more

Hawaii is nice and the surf is incredible! Lets jump back a week or two and check out some video footage of elephant seals fighting. Here is the link on Youtube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgjE7Ny-XL8 . Just cut and paste and the film shouold start rolling. So O'ahu was pretty nice overall. Checked out the North Shore, went to the east part of the island. Surfed quite a bit and walked around a ton. Next I went to the big island of Hawai'i. Basically there are tons of active volcanoes and huge mountains. I flew into Hilo and camped for a few days then I stayed in town for a few nights, then I made my way across to Kona. Hilo gets tons of rain and it rained there everyday, but it was kinda light rain that sort of ... read more

Look at the pretty pretty drinky! North America » United States » Hawaii » Oahu » Honolulu By luckytravelgirlFebruary 13th 2007Kristin B. Yesterday, after Jerry finally got back from Camp Smith, we decided to drive the North Shore. So we hopped in the convertible, put the top down, and took off. Yes, we drove around almost the entire island of O'ahu. In the evening, we headed down to Barber's Point for a luau. One tequlia sunrise, two blue Hawaii's, and three mai tai's later... read more
