Geo: 29.2036, -81.0394Headed east to the coast - Fort Pierce and then north to Merritt Island to Melbourne and Cocoa Beach. The beaches in Melbourne were very nice and the sport of the day was body boarding on the waves. Then on to the Kennedy Space Center where we spent several hours. They are preparing for the April 29th shuttle. The tour includes a variety of films and presentations as well as bus rides to shuttle pads, etc. It is amazing the size of the rocket boosters used to get the command module into space. From there we continued to head north to Daytona Beach. Tomorrow we head towards Georgia. ... read more

Here are a few photos from the RV park that we stayed at (....loved the pool area) and also our daytrip to Daytona Beach. You will notice pictures of Casper on the beach, that was a no-no as we found out later but fortunately almost when we were ready to leave anyway. Bob really enjoyed driving on this beach and drove Chris crazy by insisting on driving almost the whole beach before agreeing to park. As there were few people there it was a pretty fun day.... read more

After leaving St. Augustine’s Historic district we headed to an area called Valano, which is a beach town, with beautiful beach front houses and motels, but it was quite derelict, but cool; perhaps its busier in the high season. We then headed to Anastasia Island, and were planning to stay there, we found a lovely motel, with a seafront pool and access to the lovely beach. However it was raining and felt really stormy so we decided to head to Daytona. We cruised the 50 miles, listening to Jacksonville rock (Guns and Roses and Nirvana) perfect American driving songs. We arrived in Daytona, and the sun was in the sky, finally! We are staying in a lovely motel and have a balcony which looks uninterrupted onto the beach and pool. The sea is wild, due to ... read more

Picked up the rental car today. Got loaded up with supplies. MOney MOney MOre MOney. Changed the oil, washed the boat. Took the car and went to the ocean which is over a bridge. I never lost nothing in Daytona Beach. I thought it was a hot place to be because it used to be the place to go for spring break, but ther is nothing there. A few little pockets of what may be nice places and one Hilton but the rest is vagrant looking stuff. Run down no cars in the hotels. Rooms for $30. We bailed out and went to a small chinese food store that had good food but we were the only ones eating there except this derilect looking guy that would not stop talking to us about how he would ... read more

Last night in Daytona unless the weather does not cooperate. I am stealing electricity tonight because we only paid for one night. Hope I don't get caught. Nothing new. Took Doug to the airport this morning and now I am solo again. Who's coming to ride with Don now? May go meet some friends that have a timeshare. I wold have to get a mariona again in Titusville for a few days or leave the boat at anchor which I am not comfortable doing. I am way over budget, like twice as much as I had planned so may not be feasable. It would be fun though. Sitting in boat in Daytona Beach listening to a little band playing Jimmy Buffet music across at the restaurant, drinking a screw driver, and watching Gunsmoke on the TV. ... read more

Left St Augustine at 7:00 and got to Daytona about 2:30. Nice day. Bill, Doug's friend rode with us. We had to take him to the marina so his wife could pick him up so decided to stay an extra night. I'll be here until Sun morning. After much cussing and elevated blood pressure I got the file from Garmin to upload to an SD card. Now I am trying to load it on my chart plotter. It seems to be stuck. If it doesn't work at least there is a West Marine store within walking distance. Bill and his wife Nancy live outside of St Augustine. They met us in St Augustine last night and took us to dinner at a nice place they knew on the ICW near the city. We ate outside on ... read more

Day 1: Arrived in the Sunshine State to meet the heat and gear up for some fireworks extravaganza. Headed over to DeLeon Springs with Mickey prior to the 4th to cool off from the 100 degree + days. We went to step into the springs and we were greeted by dark clouds and rumbling thunder. The park rangers shut things down after lightning showed up. We had literally just stepped on to the first step when everyone had to get out of the water. We were able to get some great pictures of the empty springs. Day 2: 4th of July celebration in DeLand. Kristina's cousins put on a neighborhood fireworks show that rivals the town of DeLand's. Things got wild that evening as pile of fireworks stashed off to the side caught a spark and ... read more

Everything is still a go and the packing--at least on Connie's part -- is still ongoing. Her main bag is getting full and I had to ask, "How come it's got more stuff than we took for a four month trip in '07?" Turns out that since we plan to dress for formal nights on the cruise part of the trip, there has to be makeup, extra dress items, frilly things, special shoes, hand bag, and accessories. Fortunately there is plenty of room in the Tuxedo bag for some of her items. My plan is to ship that whole bag home after the cruise and travel the normal way with wash and wear clothes and never, never go anywhere fancy in the land portion of the trip. In the meantime, other snags appear. An ache in ... read more

It's a few minutes before sunrise (6:20 a.m.) and I'm still in my sleeping bag because the temperature in my tent is 46 degrees. This was the coldest night I've spent in a tent in years and I don't care to do it again. The cold woke me up several times, but I managed to sleep surprisingly well thanks to my new air mattress - a Christmas gift from Steve & Nicky. I retired early at 8:30 because I was worn out from the ride. Riding 550 miles in the East is like doing 750 miles on Western highways. Time to get moving and find breakfast. I had a hearty breakfast of sausage, eggs and hash browns at the campground dining hall, strolled back to my tent and suited up for a ride. My destination? Flagler ... read more
