Geo: 41.5363, -72.7978We decided to eat lunch at Bertucci's which is similar to Olive Garden - its a New England chain restaurant that serves delicious pizza, pasta and salad. I had Alfredo. Brick Oven Pizza. Good.We then had ice-cream at JP Lick's - a local ice-cream shop. I had Brownie Brownie Batter - tasted like Brownie Batter - pretty good. We then took selfie pictures. We decided to leave at 6pm and drive to Connecticut. We didn't want Karen to get sick. Glenn had been getting worse and so far Karen hadn't gotten sick yet.We thought there would be more Friday afternoon traffic, and it was pretty steady. Not bad at all. We stopped at the Rest stop at the Connecticut border and I picked up some maps.I am sad we had to leave Karen and Thomas. ... read more

Since we were up so late last night with the play, we decided to sleep in and try to leave after the morning rush. We left at 11am, and it was still crowded but I'm sure it would have been worse. We weren't allowed to take the trailer onto the Manhattan Island so we followed the Hudson River North along the Palisaides Interstate Parkway. We learned exactly why that side of the Hudson was not settled for a long time (super steep) and that if they bother to put a scenic overlook on a busy highway, we should stop because it's a pretty awesome view. We were very high up on an outlook that we hiked to, and could see for miles in each direction on the river, including the bridge that marks the northern end ... read more

I can't believe that my Fund for Teachers Fellowship starts in just 10 days! I have been thinking about, planning, and booking my learning experience since last October (10 months ago!) so it is definitely a little unreal that it is right around the corner. All of the fine details have been booked and confirmed so all that's left is packing. I am usually a last minute packer (think 30 min. before I leave) so I am going to have to discipline myself to think ahead and systematically pack everything since I will be traveling to 3 countries and 5 cities in 3.5 weeks. Here is a condensed itinerary of my trip: July 17th-23rd Dublin, Ireland: MISTEC (Music in Schools and Teacher Education Conference) and private tin whistle and bodhran drum lessons at the Whalton School ... read more

Connecticut, one of the most beautiful states in New England just right off the border of New York and Long Island, New York and Rhode Island. I really like the attractions the state of Mark Twain has to offer. You can discover the Plymouth that occurred during the history of Connecticut, the ship that took place in the 16th to 17th Century when Jamestown started in production of making tobacco era. I drove through Connecticut when I was driving to Massachusetts in Spring 2012. I was like going inside the ship and saw many colonial historical features and I was like,"Whoa, are you kidding me?! New England got good colonial history to learn from." So I'm a Virginia resident and did a road trip from Virginia to New England. You cannot beat that kind of road trip. ... read more

Sunday Susan, Pam and I wake up – normal hour – and talk, check Facebook and work on the blog. We then call mom and Sally about 9:30 and find out that Mom’s room got flooded. We head down. Seems the walk in shower was all slanted wrong and when she turned the water on to get the temp correct, it flooded into the bathroom floor and out the door, not into the drain which is in the middle of the bathroom floor. Mom tried to contain the damage by herself but it turns out that after close to an hour she finally woke up Sally who helped. Oh I wish she had called. She did lose a pair of shoes to the water. Susan, Pam and I head out the door and there are people ... read more

Our middle child, Rosanna, and her husband Evan were expecting their first child on July 9th, so of course we wanted to be there for the big event. This necessitated a road trip from our home in Woodland Park, Colorado to their home in Danbury, Connecticut and back. The 4000 mile drive was necessitated by the need to transport "tons" of stuff belonging to Rosanna and our youngest child Will, who was spending the summer with them, after they moved away without aforementioned stuff. My wife Linda and oldest daughter Tamara though it would be a good idea for Tamara and our two grandkids, Liam (4) and Cecily (2) to go along as Tamara could swap driving chores with me. So the participants were decided, and ready to go by early July. Tamara, husband Ryan, and ... read more

...started in Maryland and ended in Connecticut. We were in five states today: Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. Today's driving was another adventure. The website I use to plot our course lets me know if there are any toll roads on the route I've chosen. I knew once we got to this area that would become an issue. Yesterday as I was reviewing our driving directions I discovered that yes, we would have one stretch of interstate requiring a toll. I did a little digging to see just how much that toll would be. Almost $25! Yeah...no. I re-routed to see if I could find another way across the Hudson River. I looked north and found a smaller highway that, according to the information I found regarding the bridge, had toll that was ... read more

We left the Outer Banks of North Carolina for Connecticut 11 days ago. In order to miss the major metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C. and New York City we traveled through areas of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and a corner of New York state. Shenandoah Valley National Park in Virginia was beautiful and lots of summer flowers were in bloom. Pennsylvania is full of rolling hills and farms. We drove through the Delaware Gap National Park and enjoyed the view of the Delaware River. We arrived in Connecticut 7 days ago. This is where I spent my time in the summer growing up. My oldest sister, Linda, still lives in our family home. It was a fun week visiting with Linda and her husband, Tawn. We also had a few days with my cousin Ed ... read more
