We left Grand Junction and headed to Utah on I-70. This interstate has some spectacular scenery that includes Book Cliffs, Ferry Swale and Goblin Valley. If you ever have a chance to see this area it has really unusual rock formations and bridges. This area is close to Arches National Park and Canyonlands which are really great to visit. We arrived in Marysvale where we had a vacation home for 8 years. We stayed with Dale's cousin Wendell and Vee. Their home is only 1/4 mile from where we lived and has a very nice RV site for guests. We had a great week visiting friends and spent a day in the Tushar Mountains riding our ATV's with Mark and Luanne. Page, Arizona was our next destination. We lived in Page for 35 years and it ... read more

We drove from Ohio through Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin before arriving in Minnesota. We were on freeways all the way. I am the navigator on this trip and I had planned to go around the west side of Chicago to miss the downtown area but due to some construction we ended up going by the Sears Tower right in the center of Chicago. At least I got a good photo of the Chicago skyline! First stop was in Edina, a suburb of Minneapolis, to visit Val's cousin Susan and her husband Bob. Their home is on an acre of land which has a city park behind them. Their property is surrounded by trees, flowers and is very private. The first day we went to the Mall of America. We had fun watching all the people on ... read more

We had a 4 day visit with Art and Connie in Maumee. I spent 2 summers in Maumee when I was 14 and 15 years old. It was fun to go back and walk the area I was familiar with. Maumee is really a lovely town with some very old homes and a nice downtown preserving a lot of the old buildings. I walked each morning with Connie and 2 of her friends. They gave me a history tour of the old homes in area. Art, Dale and I spent a day walking the Highland Meadows Golf Club following the 3 leaders in the final day of the LPGA Marathon Classic Golf Tournament. What fun seeing these very talented ladies up close and personal. It made Dale and I realize what really amateur golfers we are! ... read more

Our next stop after Syracuse was Niagara Falls, New York. Val had been there but it was 40 years ago. Dale had never been there so we decided it was a great stop along the way. We stayed at a very nice R.V. park on Grand Island called Branches of Niagara. The park had a lake for canoeing or fishing and big spaces. We also found a very nice golf course on the island and had a beautiful afternoon on a new course. We spent 2 different days at Niagara Falls. The first day we walked in the parks and got a good idea of what we wanted to do to see the full view of the falls. The second day we took a trip on the Maid of the Mist. Dale really was surprised how ... read more

We have been in Syracuse for a week for a family visit with my sister Deirdre. We also made sure we were here to celebrate her husband David's 80th Birthday. There were 54 people over 3 days and we had beautiful 80 degree weather for the event. How wonderful for David's family to travel here from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, California and several from Costa Rica where they have lived for many years. We have enjoyed visits to the Erie Canal, walks along the Creek Walk in downtown Syracuse, a visit with my neice Kathyrn in Utica and the family reunion held at Green Lakes State Park. How lucky we have been to be with family and friends to share a special time together. These moments do not come often but we have made sure we ... read more

We left Maine and spent 4 days driving through New Hampshire and Vermont. We drove through the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont. We decided to take all back roads on our way to the Adirondacks. There are streams and lakes every few miles by the side of the roads. Lots of interesting small villages to see and lots of friendly people who are surprised to hear of our long trip from Arizona. Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire brought back memories of being there with my parents as a young child. There were sculptures along a walking trail which we enjoyed. At the foot of the Green Mountains in Vermont we stayed near Middlebury and enjoyed seeing the campus of Middlebury College. We stayed at Indian Lake Hamlet in the Adirondacks. ... read more

We arrived in Maine a week ago. Maine is a beautiful state with woods, streams and ponds around every corner. Also signs on the highway warning you of moose crossings but we never did see one. We checked out every pond hoping we would see one. We did see several deer with their does following. Bar Harbor is on Mount Desert Island in the central part of Maine on the Atlantic Ocean. It has become very prosperous because of the cruise ships (about 3 a week) that stop in the summer and fall months. The town has lots of shops and great restaurants but still has that small town feeling with very friendly people. We have eaten haddock, red snapper and flounder and tonight we will have a lobster dinner. You cannot come to Maine and ... read more

We left the Outer Banks of North Carolina for Connecticut 11 days ago. In order to miss the major metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C. and New York City we traveled through areas of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and a corner of New York state. Shenandoah Valley National Park in Virginia was beautiful and lots of summer flowers were in bloom. Pennsylvania is full of rolling hills and farms. We drove through the Delaware Gap National Park and enjoyed the view of the Delaware River. We arrived in Connecticut 7 days ago. This is where I spent my time in the summer growing up. My oldest sister, Linda, still lives in our family home. It was a fun week visiting with Linda and her husband, Tawn. We also had a few days with my cousin Ed ... read more

We arrived at Cape Hatteras 6 days ago. Great trip across North Carolina with mostly clear weather. When it does rain here it rains buckets! We crossed 4 bridges to get the Outer Banks. The one bridge is 11 miles long and crosses the Intercoastal Waterway. Halfway across the bridge we were stopped while the bridge turns sideways to allow yachts and sailboats to pass through. It was fascinating to watch. We are staying in a campground near the town of Buxton. We have a site right on the water looking east on Pamlico Sound. The Outer Banks (Cape Hatteras Island) are not more than 1 mile wide at any point. You may have heard of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which is famous for guiding ships through treacherous water near the island. There are many ships from ... read more

We arrived in Cherokee, North Carolina 5 days ago. We had a nice trip through Mississippi and Alabama. Stayed in an Alabama State Park on the Tennessee River. Very beautiful with marinas and large r.v. spaces. Cherokee is the entrance to the Smoky Mountain National Park on the North Carolina side. We are staying in the Indian Creek R.V. Park which has the Indian Creek running through it. Cherokee is located on a reservation and there is an outstanding museum located in the town which gives a complete history of the Cherokee Indians and their experiences living in this area. The Smoky Mountain National Park is just full of spectacular views and we spent 1 day exploring the park. The next day we drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway which gives you a different perspective of ... read more
