We drove from Ohio through Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin before arriving in Minnesota. We were on freeways all the way. I am the navigator on this trip and I had planned to go around the west side of Chicago to miss the downtown area but due to some construction we ended up going by the Sears Tower right in the center of Chicago. At least I got a good photo of the Chicago skyline!
First stop was in Edina, a suburb of Minneapolis, to visit Val's cousin Susan and her husband Bob. Their home is on an acre of land which has a city park behind them. Their property is surrounded by trees, flowers and is very private.
The first day we went to the Mall of America. We had fun watching all the people on various rides that is in the center of the mall. Dale made sure we all went on a ride in a log that goes through a water feature and over some "falls". We had as much fun as the kids! We certainly got our exercise walking through the 3 stories of the mall and had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. That evening we
celebrated Susan and Bob's 39th anniversary together. Susan made an outstanding Shrimp Scampi meal which we all enjoyed.
The next day we drove around Minneapolis and visited many of the lakes that surround the city. We had lunch at Lake at the Islands and enjoyed watching the kayakers on the glassy water. On the following day, our final full day with Bob and Susan, we drove to Stillwater on the St. Croix River and enjoyed the view of the river.
Next on the agenda was a short 3 hour drive to New London to visit our friends Earl and Lyn who spend their winters with us in Yuma. They are in a small town with many lakes and beautiful parks. We experienced some great meals including home made pizza and pulled pork burritos. It was great to have some home cooked meals.
We spent a day driving around Green Lake which has parks nearby and homes surrounding it. We stopped for some wine and beer and enjoyed the breeze off the lake.
Next on the agenda is the drive through Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming and a stay in Grand Junction, Colorado. Pretty exciting scenery along the way
