We went to the Boot Hill Museum this morning, but it was too early and it wasn't open yet. We wanted to get on the road kind of early because it was predicted to be 100 degrees in Pueblo, CO, our destination for the day. We didn't want to wait around for it to open, so we got a picture in front of the entrance building. What we could see from outside actually looked pretty neat, you know, an old west town with store fronts and the Long Branch Saloon. They probably have Miss Kitty, too. After that quick stop, we mounted up and headed west on good old US 50. Navigating our way was pretty easy. It was pretty much just get back on 50 and head west. This may come as a surprise to ... read more

Today was a much needed rest day. I needed this day to evaluate the fires to the north and how they would affect my ride. Nothing is for sure, but after careful evaluation of many resources, I believe the odds are really in my favor for continuing the ride as planned. I feel well rested and am eager to begin climbing after weeks of flat and winds. Off I go to Florence/ Canon City tomorrow and really begin the climbing on Friday. I expect the next several days to be some of the best of my journey. Until tomorrow....... ... read more

Well at least I made it to Pueblo. It has been a culture shock from the incredibly unpopulated areas of eastern Colorado to Pueblo where I am in a big city. To continue from yesterday: I decided to set up my tent behind the only building in the city park shielded from the 25 mph winds. Shortly after I had done that, three generation x-ers rode in and set up the their tents right by mine. They did offer me a Microbrew Saison beer which I gladly accepted. But when I crawled in my tent about 9, they were still enjoying their animated conversation. At about 10 PM, some girls on bicycles rode in and they had a great time sharing stories of their day..... until about midnight! I applaud them for their energy. It would ... read more

Business in PUEBLO Since Jeff was considering hiring someone to work in Pueblo, we took a drive to Pueblo two separate weekends. The first was in October, just Jeff and I, to check out the town. It was just a day trip with about a 2 hour drive south of Denver. Pueblo's population is around 160,000 (the 9th largest city in Colorado) so it's not a small town but does have a downtown that has that small town appeal. We spent most of our time in the downtown area. Downtown Pueblo has some unique street art with some older style buildings that add character to it. We stopped in at Bingo Burger for some lunch and sat on the patio. We like to find places that are unique to the towns and not just chain restaurants. ... read more

Imagine, if you will, that it is September in South Texas. If this is difficult for you to do, let me paint a picture: a humid, 90 plus degrees Fahrenheit picture that has mosquitoes crawling all over it. Now that you have that picture in your mind, imagine you had the opportunity to escape to the mountains for a weekend. There is one catch to this, of course--you will have to drive 12 hours to get there and then another 12 to get back home before you have to go to work on Monday. Still sound appealing? Damn straight it does. For those of you who have been with me from the beginning, you probably remember my map. Maybe I should capitalize that to be THE MAP. This is the map that I have created to ... read more

St. Elmo is a ghost town in Chaffee County, Colorado, United States. Founded in 1880, St. Elmo lies 32 km southwest of Buena Vista and sits at an elevation of 3,036 m. Nearly 2,000 people settled in this town when mining for gold and silver started. The mining industry started to decline ... read more

Tageskilometer: 19.2 Gesamtkilometer: 3'643.6. Zudem wollte ich keinen Schwalbe Marathon ... read more

Start: La Junta Ziel: Pueblo Tageskilometer: 112.1 Höchstgeschwindigkeit: 48.9 Gesamtkilometer: 3'624.4.

It's been one of those days. This Morning I drove to the southern boarder of Kansas and the Mid-America Air Museum. When I walked in the door I was greeted by a very nice lady. As part of her greeting she asked me to sign the guestbook and asked where I was from. When I told her Syracuse NY, her jaw hit the ground. She grew up in Fulton and is flying into Syracuse next week to visit her sister. I tell ya everywhere I go I find connections to Syracuse. After I left the Museum I decided to take a more direct rout to Pueblo, CO. that ended up taking me through Syracuse, KS. I decided to stop in Syracuse for Gas and Ice. While filling the tank A big guy came up to ... read more

WE'RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE TOTO !!!! At least not since lunch time. Yes all the way from Oklahoma through Kanas and into Colorado all in one day. I think it might be a record, 700 kms. It was a day for records, Helli had her bike up to 150 k's, the temperature topped out at 42 celsius (105 old school) and we saw 2 million cows. Today I don't want to spend to much time talking about the trip, instead I want to tell you about my feelings and experiences along the trip. Because thats just what guys do. So the trip. We knew it was going to be hot today so the plan was to get up and on the road early. Up at five thirty on the road just after seven. We had ... read more
