This is the last entry. I just waved off Bob to continue on his trip home from Denver. He has old Air Force buddies to visit, friends from long ago and his sister who lives in Indiana. Yesterday we went with Richard to Washington Park and rented a bicycle built for 4 with a surrey on top and biked around the park that he regularly visits. (Yes, my children, I was singing "Surrey with the Fringe on Top".) Then last night, we went to dinner at Fogo de Chao with Richard and Joanna. Next week is Richard's birthday, so what more could a young adult man ask for than dinner with endless meat?! Of course, Bob liked it too -- hey, the girls liked it just as much, but I'm not sure we got our money's ... read more

We had only one full day in Denver before flying home and with an abundance of options, how do you narrow them down? We immediately eliminated anything that would require a lot of driving since we were officially drived out. We also wanted something we hadn't done already along the way, so after some interweb searching we settled on the Denver Botanic Gardens. Smack in the middle of the city, this place was a shockingly beautiful surprise. It was huge - you could literally spend hours quietly wandering through. Without a doubt the most spectacular urban botanical garden I've seen. We also lucked in and showed up on a free admission day. Sweet! It also gave me an opportunity to put to work a photo lesson my uncle gave me before the trip. Sweet x 2! ... read more

Geo: 39.74, -104.992Jeff's alarm went off at 4:50am this morning; he hit the snooze button. My alarm went off at 5am this morning; I hit the snooze button. Ten minutes later Jeff's alarm went off again, closely follow by mine. All right already! We're up.... It's been ten days since we've had a vacation and, personally, I think it's time for another. Happily Jeff agrees - why else would we be playing battling snooze buttons at this ungodly hour? This vacation has a pretty funny backstory...Every year cruise ships that have been plying the Alaskan waters all summer are "repositioned" back down to LA or San Francisco for the winter cruises to Mexico and South. Repositioning cruises are short - there are even cruises of just one night - and repositioning cruises are much less expensive ... read more

Hello World! My name is Alyssa aka Rabbi Shakira. I am excited to start this blog and do my best to follow through with regular postings on my big adventure to come. My boyfriend and I are moving to New Zealand in mid-September. I can't believe how fast this summer is passing by. While I'm here in gorgeous, magical Colorado I want to check off everything or at least most things on my Colorado bucket list. Our trip is very open ended so the truth is, I don't know if I will ever live here again. I may be nearing the end of my Denver life and even if I returned I would return as someone different to a different time in life. Essentially I understand that I am really beginning to say goodbye to Denver, ... read more

There is a lot of fields and rolling hills in Kansas. Once again we missed some weather that was heading southeast out of colorado. We had nothing but sun and we are ok with that. I drove the majority to Denver so Paul could do a little work and rehearse a little for "This Wonderful Life." Mark your calendars for the day after Thanksgiving. I listened to my playlist for a couple hundred miles and marveled at my ability to sing songs from every genre from rap to folk from my youth to current day and remember all the words. Think how many words are in ... read more

Well that was fun. Picked up the new rental, have moved away from Avis and using Enterprise as they are 40% cheaper. Headed east from Seattle towards, uh I don’t know, maybe Ontario, Oregon. That’ll do. So headed for Denver via Ontario. From there I visited the Craters of the Moon (http://www.nps.gov/crmo/index.htm). What a place. I don’t think this place would be open to the public in Aussie, as the bits you want to see, which are the caves, are too put it mildly dangerous at best. I have been to cave sites before that have walkways, low level lighting etc. This place had none of that, and if you are on your own and something untoward happens you are pretty much “on your own”. Anywho, pretty eerie place and the caves are scary and very ... read more

About 20 minutes from downtown Denver is the famed Red Rock Amphitheatre. An acoustic marvel set among magnificent red rock formations, it’s a great place to view the mile high city. We felt the altitude immediately when climbing the 69 steps to the view from the top. There were dozens of very different athletes performing all kinds of workouts. We saw some runners methodically covering the entire arena row by row, others frog hopping up the steps and fitness teams performing crunches and reverse incline pushups straddling multiple rows. Here’s a workout for any ambitious reader - http://www.active.com/fitness/articles/take-your-endurance-training-to-the-stairs. Just walking the steps felt like an accomplishment and the views were worth the effort.... read more
