A round of thunderstorms kept the flight in the air for an extra hour. Luckily arrived safely in Denver. Enjoyed a smoked salmon pizza at Wolfgang Puck before settling in for a five hour layover. Looking forward to sleeping at midnight on the flight to Washington DC. Will have a couple hours to wait until get to meet the rest of the group. ... read more

Geo: 39.74, -104.992Hogar, dulce hogar, translates to Home, sweet home.If you are a faithful reader of our blogs you know that Jeff and I are very frugal travelers - or maybe we are travelers because we are very frugal? Anyway, we often get our accomodations through sites like VRBO (vacation rentals by owner) or occassionally Airbnb. We are returning to Costa Rica this week and several weeks ago, on a lark, I wrote to our friends Annie and Norman in San Ramon, CR telling them we were planning to come down and we were going to stay in Atenas because we want to check out that area. I asked her if she knew anyone around who might have a place to rent and that we did not want to spend more than $150-175/night. (This is high ... read more

This week, I'm on a stateside adventure to Denver, San Diego, Portland and Depoe Bay. Each flight to my next destination begins after a night of only about 4 hours of sleep, but hey, I'm trying to make the most of each day. The 24 hours in Denver were only a taste of what the town could offer. Luckily, I had a car to get around, since the two people I was visiting were on opposite ends of town. I chose a central location for my hotel and stayed in the Ramada Inn Downtown. Affordable, good location, and the bed was exactly what I needed for another 4 hours of sleep before my next flight. Since I couldn't actually check in after I landed and picked up my car at 9:00am, I went to breakfast at ... read more

It's cold. It's windy. And there's snow whipping its way across DIA. We left the house at 8am to head for the airport. It has been snowing since 2am. After 2 hours we finally reached Peña Blvd. The slushy roads are now accompanied by ice and idiots. Cars everywhere, in the ditches, stuck sideways, semis jack knifed. Some people just gave up, called it quits, threw their towels in and surrendered to mother nature's nightmare. We however, kept trucking on. It was ugly out there. You were lucky if you could see more then 20 feet in front of your vehicle. So that's what a white out looks like ;) We reached our treacherous destination at 1030am. Only to find out that our flight was cancelled, along with 700 other flights. So we went and ate ... read more

First post lul Today is superbowl sunday. I'm not capitalizing any of that cause this aint no holiday. It'll probably be fun, though. A couple of friends of ours, Jason (Bacon) & Michelle (McGrab) have been kind enough to let us stay at their sweet sweet house since the 1st when we moved out of our apartment. Its been pretty great. Wine and cheese. Video games. Excellence. I'll be dissapointed to leave their company, but I'm pretty excited to kick this shit off. Rindi and I are travelling around the world for a year, in case you didn't know. We leave on the 21st for the Azores (Portuguese islands basically in the middle of the Atlantic). Then four months around Europe. We'll get to that later. Anywayz, enough for now. We have a friggin sportsball game ... read more

My re-introduction to the United States was nothing short of a whirlwind. After flying home for about a day, I landed in Boston at around 6:30 pm on June 30. Mom and Duncan picked me up from the airport, and we drove home to two extremely happy dogs. I spent the night unpacking from Budapest and re-packing for Block Island. I went to bed, woke up, went to Target, helped Dad pack the car, and left with mom for the ferry to Block Island. We were on the 1:00 boat, which means we left at 10:30 to get there. You do the math for how long I was on mainland USA. Now, you may be thinking, "Umm...you've been coming home for Christmas. Why would there be culture shock?" Good question. When I came home for Christmas, ... read more

Geo: 39.74, -104.992"Travel - it leaves you speechless and then turns you into a storyteller." Ibn BattutaThis is the story of our latest traveling adventure. I am the storyteller and maybe, just maybe, something in this trip will make us speechless. Jeff and I are returning to one of our favorite countries - Costa Rica. We have been here twice in the past and, indeed, both of those trips were awe-inspiring and memorable. We are looking forward to exploring more of this Central American country.I've been packed for four days - including my sneakers - and since they are on the bottom of my suitcase, I have resorted to wearing my old "lawn mowing" sneakers to work and about. Why, you may ask, did I pack my shoes? The answer is simple, they take less suitcase ... read more
