February 23-28, 2007 Southern California Up early Friday morning to begin our venture into Southern California—our departure coordinated with the installation of new wall-to-wall carpeting and subsequent delivery of new bedroom furniture, the (almost) last steps in restoring the Tucson house to full function after the January freeze and broken pipes. We headed west on I-8 toward San Diego by way of Yuma, AZ, where Foxy lettuce and a number of other vegetables are grown in acres and acres of fields right along the highway. Then, not too much further down the interstate, in great contrast to this fertile stretch, we came to the Imperial Sand Dunes of Southern California. Wow!
