Hey everybody, Ryan and I are about to begin our world travels and we are both pretty stoked about it! I'll give you a little background as to why we decided to take this trip. After a trip to Fiji last summer, we both decided to make a trip of epic proportions. In Fiji, which was my first ever real international trip outside of North America, I had an awesome time meeting all types of people and learning about the culture there. I found these to be major influences in deciding to travel again. Another major factor was a bit more humbling. The realization that, although the US is a large and very influential country in the world, it's really just a small part of it. The fact that Ryan and I had the opportunity to ... read more

Ithaca When you set out on your journey to Ithaca, pray that the road is long, full of adventure, full of knowledge. The Lestrygonians, the Cyclops, the angry Posiedon - do not fear them. You will never find such as these on your path, if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine emotion emotion touches your spirit and your body. The Lestrygonians, the Cyclops, and fierce Posiedon you will never encounter, if you do not carry them within your soul, if your soul does not set them up before you. Pray that the road is long. That the summer mornings are many, when, with such pleasure, with such joy you will enter ports seen for the first time. Stop at Phonecian markets, and purchase fine merchandise, mother-of-pearl, coral, amber, and ebony, and sensual perfumes of ... read more

Hey There All! OK.... first things first, yes I've been slacking with my updates, however you'll all be pleased to know that it's only because I've been having too much of a good time! he he he.... (priorities please :o) There's been so much going on, but first before I introduce you to San Diego, let me tell you all about my jaunts in LA before I headed down south. So... towards the end of last week I booked myself on a Hummer Limo Champagne Tour with the hostel that I'm staying at.... well what fun! We all sat like superstars being schauffered around Beverly Hills sipping on unlimited supplies of Champers. We stopped off a couple of times to take a walk around some popular areas including The Grove Centre and Rodeo Drive. There ... read more

I've received many complaints about the tardiness of my updates and will offer only this excuse: I've had better things to do. Sometimes those things have been as mundane as playing another game of Scrabble with Caron (Scrabblethon 2007 is currently tied, only games we've played 1-on-1 count, sorry Jake), watching Full House re-runs with Maisa, practicing with my Tarot cards, or just sleeping in the sun. The point is, there always seems to be some activity more enticing than doing this at any given moment. So I'm sucking it up now after much slacking. (Guess I'm not a natural blogger.) I've been in San Diego about a week and a half now, splitting my time between Maisa's and Caron's places. It really is mini-Madison here. We almost have enough for an all-Wisconsin alumni softball ... read more

After 4 days and 4 nights in Vegas we have found our new favourite city. Vegas is everything it is hyped up to be with all the entertainment at your doorstep. Elton John was amazing (again) however the show he put on was definately a vegas performance with neon signs and Pamela Anderson pole dancing on the big screen.... however our next night in vegas was even more daring! After walking around all the flashy casinos and over the top themes we went to the latest Cirque du Soleil performance called Zoomanity. It was a risky and exciting show which was provocative and erotic as well as very funny. We had a great night and topped it off with a little gambing to which we can safely say did not increase our bank account in the ... read more

Today has been our last whole day in San Diego. We did a wonderful cruise of the Harbour (or harbor??...strange people over here...lol!). Tomorow we are catching the train back up to LA to see the sights up there. We must mention here the wonderful hospitality of our hosts Brett, Jane, Jess and Allie. They have really made it feel like home. Keep an eye our for more adventures!! P.S. - Internet access might be a big sketchy for the rest of the trip (we won't have broadband on demand the whole time and we will have to pay for it now!). Blogs and e-mails might be intermittant.... read more

Well...what a day!!! We spent our time today travelling around on these really tacky looking 'trolleys' (aka tram/bus thingy on wheels). We learnt lots of really useless information about the history and creation of Downtown San Diego and about some of the Mexican influences. Whist on one of our stops at Old Town invested in some really cheap lunch. Yeap we had $2 tacos (oh, don't forget to add the tax!) That is one thing that is really getting on our nellies. You go to pay for something but have to add 7.5% tax to everything and then remember that when they say 3cents they actually mean it and its not rounded up to 5. Arrrhhh...vexed!! Anyway... Another stop on our trolley tour went to this really cool cactus park thingy in Balboa Park (more ... read more

Hello to everyone in the Land of Oz!! Just a short note to say that we are still alive and kicking in sunny (but slightly chilly) San Diego. Today we went and splurged at the border shopping. Apart from that we have been relaxing and bumming around. Keep your eyes on this space to see other adventures to come Love us... read more

We have had a huge day today visiting the San Diego Zoo. Jane (who we are staying with and is looking after us very well) took us on base this morning to visit the exchange and buy our tix at military prices, then drove us out to the zoo, about 15min from home. We jumped on the guided bus tour which showed us all around the outside of the park (which is massive - they keep 4000 species there) then we hopped on the cable car all the way to the back of the park. From there we wandered our way forward, seeing zebras, giraffes, elephants, panda bears, polar bears, grizzly bears, black bears (lots of bears)...lions, tigers and bears oh my! There were animals there that we had never even heard of, even some ... read more
