Thats us in San Diego, up early this morning to catch a tram to the USA-Mexico border at Tijuana. It was very easy to get into Mexico, a pleasant stroll across a bridge but another story on the way back. Tijuana is crazy with loads of people trying to sell you stuff and you can see the poverty all over the place! We ended up buying things even though we said we werent! We went to a nice Mexican restaurant and had nachos and margaritas. It was an experience anyway and im glad i didnt need to walk about there on my own. On the way back the queue was literally miles long. There is no cover and you are exposed to the sun in the middle of the afternoon. A couple of guys were trying ... read more

Well, it has been a complete whirlwind since my last blog. I headed to smokey Zion which was very disappointing due to three forest fires. A lot of trails were closed but I still managed to hike 5 of them in one morning with my new friend Mark (from the same town as me in the UK). Only crazy British people would be out in the midday sun but we stopped after hike number 5! Will definitely visit Zion again when it is less smokey and not 104 degrees! Viva Las Vegas was next and what a contrast to the National Parks of the last few days. A crazy, glitzy, fun, glamourous place that is hard to describe. I enjoyed winning my $14 on the slot machines and watching people play roulette and black jack. I ... read more

I had an early start this morning and went with Keely to meet her babysitting charges and help get them ready for their day summer camp. It was fun to meet the kids and they showed my all over the house and garden and then ate their breakfast while bombarding me with questions about England: 'What's the best thing about living in England? What's your oldest building? Do you have fairies in England? Do kids watch Spogebob Squarepants? Do you think the Queen would like bagels for breakfast?' We finally got them away from the breakfast table, bundled into clothes and then into the car. We dropped them off at their camp and then set off for our own day trip to SeaWorld. We went to the train station and bought our tickets. When the train ... read more

Neil wasn´t bothered about going to San Diego at all, but I really wanted to include somehere new on our USA trip, and had prepaid for our hotel for 2 nights, so he wasn´t able to try to persuade me out of it. However, from the moment we got on the train, San Diego was one of the highlights of our trip so far. The train itself is called the Pacific Surfliner, and once you are out the LA suburbs, it travels right along the coast, often right on the beaches, giving us 2 hours of amazing scenery. Once we arrived in San Diego, our hotel, an internet bargain, was one of the nicest I have ever stayed in, 4 star, with an amazing rooftop pool and matching animal print bathrobes, and was located in ... read more

Hitting the freeway again today and I'm starting to feel pretty confident about our trip to Seaworld in San Diego. It's actually quite straight forward to get there since the on ramp to I5 is about 500 feet from our hotel and Seaworld is just off I5 at the other end. Easy right? .... not quite. We started out about 9:15 hoping to miss any morning rush hour traffic but early enough to get there at a decent time and made good time for the first 60 miles it's just the last 30 miles that were more eventful. After getting stuck in a traffic jam for the better part of 30 minutes we finally started to move of course resulting in me taking the wrong lanes and going inland rather then staying close to the ... read more

Amelia left me last week and now it is my job to pack her stuff, my stuff, and extra stuff for our 6 week stay in Europe. She also left me in the situation to break into her house and hijack her computer in hopes of finding our itinerary. No luck so far.... Now i just have the joy of packing all of our stuff into one backpack and waiting till tuesday when i will be off to meet her in a random hostel in London called Elephant something. I dont know the name, she doesn't know when im getting there, but we both want to try and see Harry Potter on the opening day in London that day. Fat chance.... We off to a great start and it hasn't even started. ... read more

I am sitting here at work with lots of stuff that needs to get done before I leave on Friday for two weeks with zero motivation to actually do it! Hopefully this Starbucks gets the blood flowing so I get into gear. I cannot believe after all the months of planning for this trip it is actually here! I remember when we booked the cruise in 2006 thinking we had forever to plan for it, I guess as you get older the years go by faster. I remember when I was a kid they never went fast enough, now I wish they would slow down a bit! I am hoping that we will be able to update this website at least every morning during the cruise, and I will try when Jimmy and I are exploring ... read more

From the stone walled citadel (a fortress), we viewed the green roof tops, french architecture, sampled the french food, and attitude which was fine mostly! the crepes were yummy and the old city really is beautiful. from Quebec to the border, where paul almost funny story, you're not supposed to bring certain fruits across, so being the organised ones we had just purchased ... read more
