I can't believe that the time has almost coem to leave the USA! But the most unbelievable part of it all is that I'm going to the cook islands - madness!! I had a major panic last night as I couldn't find my travel plug adaptor and my camera had died, not well timed. But thankfully there was a lovely Spanish lady named Hilda in my room who took my to the shops to get a new one! Phew! AFter spending the morinign posting bits home I wandered around OB with Jillian and got myself some new t-shirts to add to my round the world collection. I then spent and exceedingly exciting evening packing for tomorrow!... read more

Again, this Morning I was in no hurry (I think I may have been infected with the Californian chill factor, and maybe taking it a little too seriously!!) After spending a bit of time with the wierdos that seem to inhabit the library in particular the internet room (as Amy S says: 'America, home of the freaks'!!!), I decided to go to the old town part of San Diego, and Jillian, from the hostel, said she'd thought the same so we went together after lunch. The old town is literally the old part of San Diego where the original Mexican inhabitants lived. It is now preserved for tourists and is layed out like an old mexican village. It was very interesting nad very pretty with lots of shops selling touristy bits and pieces - mexican ponchos ... read more

This morning I got chatting to one of the women, called Jillian from New Jersey, that I'd spoken to the evening before and mentioned that I planned to go up the coast to have a look around Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla (pronounced La Hoya), and she said she'd been thinking of doing the same and would give me a lift up in her hired car. So off we went with our directions and rather surprisingly found it very easily,a lthough was a little bit scary, what with being on the wrong side of the road and being in the car with a New York driver!! When we got out of the car we realised we were parked right by a sea lion cove so we went over and watched them sunbathing a messing ... read more

Today I decided that I'd earnt a proper chill out day so got myself ready and walked again over to Ocean Beach. Apparently the other day I had only walked as far as the dog beach adn just around the corner was this huge white sandy beach that was almost empty, that almost looked as though itt was straight out of baywatch, except that it wasn't so busy and there weren't lifeguards running around with cleavage up to their chins!! It was lovely and warm with a nice cool breeze so that I could sit there all day perfectly comfortably, which was good as the sea was far too cold to oput anything more than my toe in! Infact all the surfers had their full wetsuits on and there wasn't a swimmer in sight! For lunch ... read more

It's so nice to wake up and feel comfortable enough to just lie in bed and not worry that every little move you make will disturb eveyone. The room I'm in is a 6 bed dorm, and apart from one Japanese woman who seems to be very angry and woke eveyone up in the wee hours getting ready for work and slamming all the doors, eveyone is lovely. There are alot of people here who have just finished camp, like Fran and the others, and are doing some sight seeing before they head back to their respective home countries. There are also alot of older travellers here, I suppose as it's a much quieter area and there's no drinking int he hostel it appeals to older travellers who don't want to be kept up all night ... read more

Thankfully that first flight to Charlotte was uneventful and I even fit in a few zzzzz's, although they didn't offer any food or drinks so I was parched by the time I landed. On arrival at Charlotte I discovered that an ealier flight had broken down (most definately not confidence installing as it was the same airways) and that they were taking our plane and so we had to wait for another to come available!!! Argh!! Thankfully we were only an hour delayed and the second plane was a lot newer and more comfortable. I did, however, have to pay for the food on the flight and for $5 got the most horrfic chicken caesar salad roll! On arrival in San Diego airport I felt as though I'd arrived in heaven. It was so easy...there was ... read more

OK first maybe I was to harsh on San Diego while I wrote my daily blog entry last night. But honestly, cloudy weather in San Diego is not excusable. At any rate, this morning we cheked out of the beach hotel and headed for Old Town. The hotel we stayed in tonight was pretty amazing, its more of a gated community. It has 8 different buildings, all with a "missionary" south west cultured lay out, If that makes any sense. Anyway of course the weather today was absolutely perfect (it cleared up about 30 minutes after we left the beach). We took the trolly down to Petco Park (home of the Padres) and checked out the outside of the stadium and went to the store. When we finished, we were approached by a "homeless" guy looking ... read more
