Is it a beauty contest, or the fact that visiting San Diego is always a treat? One place I have always wanted to visit is Black's Beach. Black’s Beach is one of the coast’s only nude beaches. It’s not technically legal, but nudists still flock to the area, typically gathering at the north end past the Glider Port Trail. Surfers dominate the other end of the beach, and visitors will find restrooms and showers at either end. It’s a bit of a hike to get there, but it’s worth it if sunbathing freely is important to you. Are you listening,Webb?? Another interesting place to visit is the Tivoli. While everyone else hits up the newest bars in town, check out the oldest haunt instead. Tivoli Bar & Grill opened in 1885 and once housed a brothel ... read more

Travelzoo had some interesting information about San Diego's Little Italy. It has increasingly become one of my favorite places in the city. Let's see why. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The Saturday street market is one of my favorite events here. But any day is a good day here. Thanks to waves of Sicilian and Ligurian immigrants who began building up San Diego’s tuna fishing industry in the 19th century, Italian culture figures prominently into the local mix, too. And as you might guess, url=https://www.sandiego.org/explore/downtown-urban/little-italy.aspx?utm_campaign=MC_SDT_SpringAwareness_FY21_&utm_medium=campaign&utm_source=%s&utm_term=%epid!;%ecid!;%eaid!Little Italy is the best place to find the vestiges. Fiesta Island earns its name come July with a two-weekend party and competitive bat-and-ball game at the 64th Over the Line Tournament (July 8-9, 15-16), hosted by the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club. This game has a truly unique set of rules with teams of three, wooden softball bats and no bases, just lines drawn in the sand. This is the beach scene you’ve always imagined — a party island in Mission Bay where everyone gets together for two weekends of fun. And it’s easy to attend with free admission, a bike valet and free shuttles. To participate, sign up in person on May 6 at the Beachcomber and Pennant bars in South Mission Beach or online starting May 8. Follow @ombac on Twitter for updates. Now for some rules: The No “B”s: No Bottles, No ... read more

I woke at 5, tried to sleep until 5:30, and then went to the only other room available to me, the bathroom. It wasn't too bad though, I had dragged the office chair in there the night before and had a comfortable place to read, type yesterdays journal entry and play my games on my phone. Up and moving we had finished breakfast by 9 and were out the door by 10:30am. Again we stopped at Subway for lunch supplies and were through the gates just about 11am. Abcde and I raced to the dolphin stadium and saw 90% of the same show we had seen twice the day before. What can I say, we love watching dolphins perform. We then went to the penguin exhibit followed by the arctic circle where we saw beluga whales, ... read more

We three slept well in this beautiful Hilton Garden Inn. Up shortly after dawn we breakfasted in the restaurant courtesy of my Hilton Honors Gold status. Fed and caffinated, wife started getting the monstruo ready while I logged into the hotel computer and bought 2-day passes for us to Sea World. I know it is not that big of a park, and can likely be seen in 1 day but we are towing a two year old and she will need a slower pace and some down time. Leaving the hotel, I earned a dirty look from wife when I rode up on a flowerbed curb while leaving the parking lot. No permanent damage but I was a bit chagrined. We stopped at a Subway and grabbed something to eat later, park food is expensive and ... read more

Our trip began the first week of October, 2015 in San Diego, CA.Two months before our departure my husband had a serious fall that resulted in brain surgery. Six days before we left I had knee surgery. It was time for a vacation! We flew into San Diego to share in the joy of my nephew’s wedding on Sunday, October 11. My husband, sister, her husband and I enjoyed our first Airbnb in Ocean Beach (OB), a quiet little town easily accessible to beaches and the city of San Diego, without the hassle of parking and driving congestion in the city. This began the first week of my husband’s and my three week long coastal California vacation. 10/8/15 Day 1 Ocean Beach and San Diego, California On our first night we all decided to drive into ... read more

Left hostel at 7AM on way to Tijuana and San Diego. My left foot had been hurting the day before and I was planning on visiting a pharmacy before heading out but Zaina who is a doctor advised me to elevate my leg as I slept. That really helped because my leg felt much better after 1 night. Driving through the desert away from Phoenix I made good time but when I hit California the gas prices jumped to the same as Canada $1/liter. I was surprised about this until I figured out that it discouraged people from Mexico from coming up and taking gasoline down to Mexico where the prices are high. Driving through Southern California is surprisingly challenging because the mountains are so high and the highways go right up the mountains. The engine ... read more

We jumped into the car and drove the 40 or so minutes south to San Diego this morning. Managng to miss the traffic by leaving just after 9.00am helped the cause and the drive in was not too bad. After five previous days of theme parks we made the strategic call and hired Greta a pram on this day. It was warm outside and in reality we werent sure she would last the distance. The dolphin enclosure was really good and Lola and Greta got close and personal with a dolphin but not Madi - her time would come later. Following the dolphins we walked around and took in a few of the exhibits until the killer whale show. We sat in the 'splash zone' but at a distance which must have been around a dozen ... read more

So here we are in Carlisbad at a resort right next door to Legoland. It's about 32 miles from San Diego and right on the ocean. When we walked into our room we couldnt believe the size of it. Having lived over the past few weeks ostensibly in the same room to walk into something with two bedrooms and a kitchen and a lounge room it was almost a god send. The drive down from Anahem (Disneyland) was reasonably uneventful apart from the stuff up at Hertz which saw me come back to our hotel with a car which was absolutely massive. Felt quite out of place to be behind the wheel and not have an American Flag flying from the aerial, and a cooler of Coors in the back with the kids and a pregnant ... read more
