Fiesta Island earns its name come July with a two-weekend party and competitive bat-and-ball game at the 64th
Over the Line Tournament (July 8-9, 15-16), hosted by the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club. This game has a truly unique set of rules with teams of three, wooden softball bats and no bases, just lines drawn in the sand.
This is the beach scene you’ve always imagined — a party island in Mission Bay where everyone gets together for two weekends of fun. And it’s easy to attend with free admission, a bike valet and free shuttles. To participate, sign up in person on May 6 at the Beachcomber and Pennant bars in South Mission Beach or online starting May 8. Follow @ombac on Twitter for updates.
Now for some rules:
The No “B”s: No
Bottles, No
Bicycles, No
Bowzers (

Babies, No
Boas, No
Bad Attitudes, No

(
OTL is a public event, however, it is not appropriate/safe for children due to crowds, bat & ball related games and language).
Alcohol rules and restrictions will exactly the same as previous years’ OTL tournaments.
Public displays of nudity or violations of San Diego Municipal Code (Section 56.53) are illegal and will not be tolerated. (I was hoping for a little bit of nudity).
Bikes are not permitted within the dunes, so be smart to bike and store your bike at the BIKE VALET! Bike Valet will be provided on the North side of the island as you bike in, and only $3.00 for the day.
(Bikes must be Picked up by 6pm each day). (So, I will leave my bicycle at home). Official OTL Rules: There are 13 main rules to the contest, which you can find on their website. OTL is known for, among other things, having very colorful team names. Having a funny or provocative team name is part of the overall tournament tradition. Charity: Proceeds from OMBAC’s activities and events have supported a wide range of local, national and international beneficiaries. For over sixty years OMBAC has been content to quietly support these causes. Today we feel it is important for the public at large to know that OMBAC is more than just
those guys at Over The Line. The name "over-the-line" is a
registered trademark of
the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) of
San Diego,
California, which organizes an annual tournament that is one of the city's largest summer social events. It is also known as OTL (also trademarked by OMBAC).
OMBAC allows other organizations to license the trademark for their own events for a nominal fee. An over-the-line court is normally made up on a beach and comprises a triangle and an open ended rectangle marked by ropes or lines in the sand. The base ("The Line") of the triangle is 55 feet (17 m) long, and the distance from the line to the opposite point ("Home") is also 55 feet (17 m). The rectangle is composed of two parallel ropes or lines that extend out indefinitely away from home starting from the two ends of The Line and at a right angle to The Line. The area between the parallel ropes and over The Line is fair territory. Everything other than the triangle and fair territory is foul territory. This might have been fun back in my college days.
