I’m waiting in line for my 10:30pm bus out. I hear a young guy questioning security near the carryon check-in. Guilt written all over his face, giving himself away he says, “Wait! Hang on… What? What do you mean you have to check my bag? What am I not allowed to take on board?” “You know drugs, knifes, guns, that sort of stuff.” He stands there for a bit as if his brain couldn’t comprehend. Either that or making sure he left his AK47 at home. “Oh, okay then.” A lady standing in front of me just missed her bus because they changed the boarding gate and didn’t make an announcement. “Mam, we can’t turn the bus around just for you I’m sorry. We have another bus that will leave at 130 in the morning.” This ... read more

Hi again all. I am re-opening this blog after 3 years as I have travelled again (for a shorter period this time) to discover a part of the USA. Even if it was only for 3 weeks, we managed to drive more than 2500 miles through California and Nevada and managed to take a trip by plane, helicopter and boat to the Grand Canyon Arizona from Las-Vegas. I was more thinking of this holiday as an adventure as I have never been to United States before, and really wanted to live the culture, see all those amazing sceneries that I thought I would only see on TV as a kid. I wanted to see if everything I was dreaming about as a kid (Los-Angeles, the beaches, Hollywood, San Fran, the madness of Vegas etc.) were just ... read more

Zoe, Kylie, Scott and I headed to San Diego Zoo and enjoyed a pretty good day out. After taking our time at first strolling along, we rushed to see everything we wanted, deciding to get on a tour bus around the zoo to help us decide what we wanted to come back and see. The sea lion show we saw was pretty awesome, seeing the aforementioned animal entertaining the crowd with ease. Damn they are good sliders! Seeing the polar bears, elephants and giraffes was pretty cool, and I end up buying a souvenir for Lewis in the gift shop. In the end I have to guess what size to get for him. When we met up with the others, Todd dropped us off in downtown San Diego for us to walk around and find our ... read more

Maybe there are planning something?

Due to my early night, I was awake at 6am, and showered, dressed and ready to leave at 6.30am, so I just waited around til 8.30am when I took my stuff to the van for loading up. Turns out that Zoe had called and knocked the previous night as well as sending me a couple of messages. She, Kylie and Scott had dinner across the road at the Hard Rock hotel and they wanted to see if I was interested in joining them. Today they just kept claiming that I was ignoring them and I tried to explain but to no avail. The day's destination was San Diego, and if you're like me everytime you say the name, you say it in the style of Ron Burgendy from Anchorman (my brother and his friends frequently quote ... read more

Today after we were all ready we went to zion national park again to finish the book that makes you a junior ranger. To become a junior ranger you have to be in the age span of six throw twelve. Bailey, Darwin, and I were almost done our book but needed another day to finish it. The book says that if you are in between six throw eight then you would do the Tara Tarantula activities. If you were in the span rang of nine to twelve then you would do both Tara and Lewis Lizard's activities. The owl activities were just for fun in the book. After you were finished the book then you would bring it to the visitor center or the Museum and a anger would cheek it before awarding your badge. Although ... read more

Today was the first day of the whole trip that we could actually sit down and just relax all day. It was good too, i think we all needed it. Had a BBQ for lunch and couple of drinks. We were supposed to go to Seaworld but we were all too tired. This morning though we did get a treat, dolphins playing just out the front of our apartment. Later in the afternoon we did however go downtown for about an hour just to see what it was like. We saw the USS Midway which is an Aircraft Carrier which was been turned into Museum. The ship was huge!!! took some good photos. Tonight we went to a chinese restaurant for dinner. Tonight is our last night in San Diego. We say goodbye to San Diego ... read more

BY JUSTINO I got home 2 weeks ago today, but still have not adjusted to day to day life off the road. After 27 flights (San Diego to Houston to DC to Newark to San Francisco to Newark to London to Newark to Beijing to Hong Kong to Guangshou to Saigon to Hoi An to Saigon to Singapore to Sydney to Wellington to Aukland to Wellington to Melbourne to Singapore to Kuala Lumpur to Phuket to Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur to Beijing to Newark to San Diego) totaling 46,631 miles, and thousands more driving across Australia and New Zealand and taking trains and buses across China and Vietnam, I'm not tired of traveling. In fact, right now I'd happily repack and head back out. The trip home took us to Melbourne, Phuket, Bangkok, ... read more

The best 2 days yet in San Diego, we caught the bus the Ocean Beach. It's about a 40 minute bus ride from the hostel where you encounter some more weird people, what is it with weird people on buses in this country! We got to the beach and found a nice patch. Settled down and chilled and before long all I could hear was Nicole snoring her little head off, northern birds!!!! After an hour or so me and Jake hit the sea, the waves were awesome, so powerful and we did plenty of body surfing before realising that it was actually freezing so we headed back! On day 88 we took the body board with us and hit the surf big time! ... read more

We have just spent three days having lazy and a relaxing time in San Diego without the car and back to the joys of public transport. I hate buses. We arrived in the afternoon and settled into our hostel by the beach. It was lucky we packed the car up the previously night as the whole return car process was very quick. The only problem was we didn’t pack our bags very well, we had trouble carrying them as we hadn’t done so for five weeks. But once we got settled in San Diego we went exploring our local area of Ocean Beach. It was very similar to Phillip Island in size and in the shops that were there. No great bakery though. Our second day in San Diego we went to the Zoo, that’s right ... read more
