Twenty hours on a plane is not sounding so appealing right now, I am so ready to just be there. I had forgot what a pain LAX can be. For reading material on the flight from Omaha to LA I decided to bring "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. I have read it before and thought it fitting for my trip. A great story that talks about Santiago's journey, his Personal Legend. Santiago believes his Personal Legend to be a search for treasure. What he finds is that the adventures are the spoils. He finds magic and treasure at his own doorstep and inside of himself.... he finds that life is the journey. "The boy felt jealous of the freedom of the wind, and saw that he could have the same freedom. There was nothing to hold ... read more

OUr last day in the United States of America was spent sleeping in (for the first time in like 8wks a proper sleep-in!!), The lovely guy at the desk downstairs had pushed our checkout back until 2pm so we packed up our stuff for a final time and made our way down to the lobby at about 1:30pm. We left out stuff in the storage room and paid $3 for a ticket to catch the trolly out to Manhattan Plaza for an easy day. Originally we were gonna catch the train into Hollywood and shop it up but as we had a stack load of shopping already we figured we'd stay local. The trip out there took about half an hour and we got the scenic route along Manhattan Beach which was nice. We arrived at ... read more

As we had a late checkout of 2pm, we had our first sleep in in what felt like forever! We packed up all our belongings for the final time, and headed down to the lobby at around 1.30pm. They let us leave our luggage in a storage area, and bought tickets to catch the trolley car down to Manhattan Plaza. The half hour trip took us along the scenic route, along Manhattan beach which was lovely. We found a Victoria's Secret, so we had a good look around there, but there wasn't anything else too exciting there. We went into a CVS to grab our last supply of US candies (yum!) then headed over to a California Pizza Kitchen. Fantastic pizzas, didn't disappoint. We followed it with the biggest sundae I think I've ever shared! Amazing ... read more

Here we are, 24 hours before we land in Paris. I think i'm all packed, at least i hope i am. I'm writing this blog mainly for myself. I want to try to write about things so I don't forget them. It won't be the most elegant or funny blog--unless maybe i could get PaulofFame to write it--but i'll do my best. If anyone else wants to follow along then that's great. I'll try to update every once in a while and i'll definitely try to put some pics up too. My traveling companion will be this girl named vivian. She's seems pretty cool. Just kidding she's awesome. Ok so here's the basic itinerary for our trip: We leave LAX June 23 at 12pm and arrive in Paris, France June 24 at 10am. We stay in ... read more

Long before we get on the plane out trip begins. There is the gathering of passports for starters. This is my first time out of the country so I had never owned a passport before. It took three trips to the post office before I could get things together for the passport. The first time I got there I picked up the application, the second time I got there just as they were closing. The passport lady was kind enough to let me in despite my tardiness only so that in the possess of checking off my paperwork I discovered that I had brought my son's birth certificate instead of my own. Well I still managed to get my passport despite minor setbacks. The packing has been the bigger challenge. With all the luggage restrictions Christian ... read more

Man Morning, a 2-hour work day, last-minute packing and discarding, DIA with Dave Higgins and canine companion, then a quick westward flight to the edge of the world. That's a tasty beverage. Still awaiting the grand-daddy of them all...the 20 hour marathon to Taipei and Bangkok. Coffee may not be sufficient. Wish me luck. I used to *hate* LA. Now I kinda love it. And if I lived here, I would come to LAX every so often and feast upon the delicious insanity. And btw, the very helpful gentlemen giving directions outside Terminal 6...yeah, them directions ain't free, punk. I'm so often reminded of Mos Eisley spaceport on Tantooine (nerd much?) when I come here. You have no idea what you're going to find. So far, so good...Except for the wireless connection, which is keeping me ... read more

They say a journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step. I suppose a journey of 30,000 mile is more relivent to me, but my first step was, not filled with excitment at the road ahead - that would come later - but with sadness about the road behind. the hardest part was saying goodbye to everyone, with all the tears, mate brilliant mates who organised a great leaving party, my mum & dad, and everyone else (WEM) but once i was on the coach & on my way the excitment started to grow. I thought of the line at the end of the Shawshank redemption: "I find i'm so excited I can't sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitment only a free man can feel. A ... read more

One last day in the US, but we plan to make the most of it. First that familiar but forgettable breakfast, then we check out and head for the "Hollywood Forever" cemetary. This time Karina has done her research, and I've drawn a small map from the net. The cemetary is much larger than the other one we searched a few weeks ago, but armed with our map and only looking for 3 graves, it doesn't take long. Mel Blanc, Estel Getty (Golden Girls) whose grave has no headstone atm, and Don Adams (Maxwell Smart), whose headstone has a picture of him talking on his shoe-phone!!! It's quite a picturesque and peaceful cemetary, complete with ducks & their ducklings and even a few peacocks, and we do our best not to disturb the tranquility. Pleased with ... read more
