Well Lori, here it is, you can’t complain now, although this blog isn't about Glendora directly, its about one of my fondest memories of my stint in the states, I'll do my best to follow it up with an attempt at describing the wonders of Sweet Daddies!!....... Having realised I'd spent the best part of two months here in Cal-ee-for-nigh-aye and most of that time in LA county I thought it was about time I got round to doing the touristy stuff. I was here for a whole year during college and never made it to the Hollywood sign so I thought I should get my arse in gear and convinced Lori to accompany me. She was a bit dubious at first and my threats and blackmail wouldn't shift her. In the end I bribed her ... read more

One of the things people tend to hear about LA is that a lot of the people there are quite mad and that if so stay too there too long there is a genuine danger that one could go insane. Well i heard all that and wondered if it was true and now that i am there it seems as though it is very true. We've stayed largely in the area in and around Hollywood but have encountered some people who could be termed somewhat crazy (incidently i am not trying to use this term offensively). On the greyhound bus (or "the dog" as its often called) Elaine and i met a 49 year old african american man who was in the marines (and he genuinely was in the marines as he proudly showed us identification). ... read more

On Sunday we went to spend the day at six flags magic mountain, one of the worlds premier rollercoaster parks. Unlike most theme parks magic mountain is geared towards rollercoaster nuts, which is why it has about 20 of them. I'd wanted to go here since i knew i was coming to LA, so it was with great anticipation that we went there. We arrived early and the first ride we went on was the Viper, a high speed turbulent rollercoaster with a quadruple loop and one which goes really high into the air. As we were getting on to it, i was a bit nervous and i told Elaine that i think we may be should have gone on one of the more sedate rides first. As it turned out though, we did, because the ... read more

Finally I have been able to find some internet access over here! It has been a struggle... Here goes the big catch up on what we have been up to... Our third day in Hollywood was spent as traditional tourists on the "Tour of the stars homes" where we sat on a bus and drove around the Hollywood hills and Beverly Hills areas being shown all of the big houses. We also saw things like the shop Wynona Rider was caught shoplifting in and other out of the ordinary places that made the tour a little more interesting. The houses were absolutely huge. I can not believe that anyone would ever be able to live in them comfortably, but I guess they all have to do something with their money. We also go to do a ... read more

I am running on about 9 hours of sleep for 2 days so please excuse me if this doesnt make sense. I just wanted to let you all know we are here and having a great time. The flight was fine, we got the emergency exit row seats cos Tim is so tall (he does come in handy some times). But of course this was where every one came to stand and talk, and the stewards were coming and going into the galley with the lights on the whole flight - needless to say neither of us slept at all, despite the ample leg room. We arrived at our cute little hotel at about 7.30am. (There are old Hollywood posters up all over the walls, with Audrey Hepburn, Sinatra, Gone with the Wind etc. And the ... read more

Dear All, We finished our California trip with the big city of Los Angeles. It really is huge and we didn't really have a clue, until we tried to drive the length of the Santa Monica Boulevard! We came into the city from the north and so passed through the plush coastal town of Santa Barbara. The university at Santa Barbara is something else. Students have fantastic facilities, and classrooms with sea views, how they get any work done is beyond us. Our interest was piqued by a friend (Anita Ballantyne) who did a semester there and it was all she had described. The town itself is also very pretty and postcard perfect. We continued down the coast, stopping for the night in a town just north of LA, called Ventura. Not exactly a hotspot but ... read more

Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood is probably the most scary place on Halloween night. Every year on October 31, the historic route 66 in West Hollywood will be filled with people dressing up as devils or man dressing up as woman for the annual West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval. There are basically 2 distinctive types of people on the street for the Halloween Carnaval - the dressed up and the non-dressed up. The costumes are also in 2 categories - the cute and the scary. Looking at these 3 pretty ladies... or.. man-ladies.. should we call them cute or scary... This cuet young boy may be trying his best to scare people. But he is just too cute to scare anyone. Yet this probably two year old little lizard is drawing a lot of attentions and ... read more

We came back to Hollywood on friday night and checked back into the hostel just off the boulevard. The reason we had returned was for 2 concerts over the weekend... On Saturday night we went to see Queen & Paul Rodgers at the amazingly recognisable Hollywood Bowl (remember the Monty Python show?). They played a great mix of old favourites plus some good old Free/Bad Company songs. The highlight, however, had to be be when Brian May introduced "a local boy done gone" to the stage and SLASH walked on to play along to "Can't get enough of your love". After the show, we were herded onto the wrong shuttle bus and had an impromtu tour of Universal City before persuading our bus driver to drop us back at the bowl once all the passengers had ... read more

Greetings from Hollywood! Caitlin and I have safely arrived in LA. Our flight from the East Coast was a shaky start to our global adventures. Melissa (Caitlin's girlfriend) had kindly agreed to drive us from MA to Bradley International in Connecticut. After a hectic morning at the Head of the Charles, they picked me up from the Starfish house of love in JP and we quickly got on our way! Our initial excitement was soon dampened, literally. There was pouring rain, slick road and stand-still traffic on Route 9. To top it all off, we realized in the car that we had miscommunicated about the departure time. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 5:30 instead of 6:30! Melissa's excellent driving skills and her all-weather tires were put to the test. I placed a frantic phone ... read more
