I'm back from all my adventures (I'm not so sure about this -20 business that awaited me in Edmonton) but I did promise an entry from the glamerous world of LA/Hollywood. The flight back from Kuala Lumpur/Taipai to Los Angeles was plagued by delays. The most memorable part of that plane ride was being told to exit the plane in Taipai with all my carry on luggage and that my gate was A4. After coming back from the bathroom, I tried to enter the lounge the same way I came despite a curious no entry sign. Well, it turns out that I was breaching U.S. Federal Aviation Security Measurements so I had to go down the hall, have my things passed through security, go up the stairs, back up the hall, and down the stairs to ... read more

Hey folks, Here we are - our final spot in the 2 weeks of the US of A. We opted for the money saving option of travelling overnight on the greyhound from San Francisco to Hollywood. Fortunately this time we foudn a seat by the emergency exit, which meant extra leg room...and that was about it really. The journey took a dooable 8 hours, during which we had a stop at a Burger King, in the middle of nowhere. Had to make a loo stop so followed the other bus dwellers into the BK and foudn the restrooms. And then I went back to the bus. Some people, on the other hand, thought it a good plan to have a BK whopper meal at 3am in the morning. Now, I was hungry at this time, but ... read more

Today was spent updating all these entries and adding photos at an internet cafe 2 minutes from our hostel. Believe it or not it's still raining and after an early morning call to Disney we were advised that the rides were closed and there was no point in making the journey. We're both gutted about this but Fiona especially, the weather really has been mental here so there's not many photo's, it's been a good time though and we've met a lot of great people, LA really is party central but we're looking forward to Hawaii and that wonderful beach, roll on tomorrow, let's just hope the flights OK. I don't know when I'll get on this again so enjoy the photo's, I've added loads right from the start so you can all go back and ... read more

Guess what? It's still raining, big style. We spent most of the day in bed then the hostel put on movies and pizza at night so we just chilled in the TV lounge. We've met a few people here that were in our last hostel in San Francisco, I can't remember them but one dude mentioned me dancing on the table on Hogmanay, it's a small world after all. We're hoping to go to Disney tomorrow but are worried about the weather.... read more

Up early this morning and met a Scottish girl at breakfast, it's still battering down today so we're at a loss, a guy from the hostel, Boogie, is organising a sight seeing trip so we put our names down. The tour was great, a full day, 12 of us from the hostel in this mini-van with a mental German dude driving and talking us through it, what a day, you really need a car to see LA and this was defo the best way to do it. First stop on the tour was Beverly Hills and Bell Air to see some of the stars homes. It's like another world. We saw Tom Hank's house, Arnie, Leo DiCaprio, a few more and of course Angela Lansbury of 'Murder She Wrote' fame! Next stop was Beverly Hills and ... read more

It started to snow as we left our hotel in Vegas, not a good sign when we got to the airport and our flight was already delayed by 2 hours. Took off about 4 hours late and landed in LA some 40 mins later, we could have got a bus here in that time, not to worry though, we landed in LA and it was pouring down and it's not stopped since. LA is HUGE, it took us over an hour to get from LAX airport to our hostel, it's in the Melrose part of town, think Melrose Place the TV show, it's next to Sunset Boulevard and the Hollywood hills are in the distance, well they would be if the fog ever lifted!! We wandered around Melrose at night in the rain, it's really battering ... read more

A short 4 day stop on the way to New Zealand. Myke travelled all the way to LA to do the All Tomorrow's Parties festival with me in Long Beach! Best festival ever!!!! Lots of really great bands were there like Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Danielson Famile (a christian band), Sonic Youth and Iggy Pop! The festival is still in its growing stages so there weren't millions of people there and you could easily see the stage for all the shows without fighting to get to the front or fearing for your life if a mosh pit started up. After the festival we made our way (via a very long bus ride and a very expensive cab ride) to Hollywood where we checked out the walk... read more

I drove the PT Cruiser into Los Angeles - along some of the maddest roads I have ever been on. The highways stretch out over 6 lanes each side, people overtake on all sides and the signs are crap, one thing the UK does a lot better than the US is road signs. In the US signs just indicate the very next exit with maybe 1/2 a mile notice. Matt managed to revert to UK driving - on the left - at a truck stop - which could have been very nasty, and I nearly side swiped a cop car on a weird intersection - we got away with both, we are very lucky guys. We dropped the bike off and checked into a USA International hostel - very nice facilities, ensuite dorms - only 4 ... read more
