Geo: 34.0983, -118.326What a final day. We havent been blown away by our time in Los Angeles but Universal Studios Hollywood was definitely a high point. We were up at 8.30 and soon tucking into another delicious omelette at our hotel. A short trip on the Metro train and free shuttle transfer had us inside Universal Studios a fraction after its 10am opening time. We planned our day perfectly, getting to each and every show, and riding each ride at least twice. Overall we enjoyed the park far more than Disneyland. The atmosphere was better, less childish, the rides faster and more adventurous and shows far more spectacular. It was a thrill to feel a part of the movies, an authentic experience, amongst the studios movies are made, among all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. ... read more

After visiting the desert I had arrived back in Los Angeles, staying in Hollywood for the next 5 days. The following day was Friday, and one of the few days that the Six Flags Theme Park was open, with massive rides - one of the few things I was interested in doing in America, and so I got up nice and early to make my way across the city by three methods of transport to the theme park. Being a Friday, the theme park was almost empty, despite having some of the biggest rides I'd ever seen - making queues for massive rollercoasters almost non-existant. This meant that by 4pm, I'd already been on all the 12 rollercoasters I had wanted. The day was lovely too, like any summer day we could dream of in England! ... read more

On Friday we began our morning at Madame Tussaud's, every A list celebrity known to man - highlight for both of us was donning a red hoodie and mounting a BMX helping E.T. find his way home. We have given Maccas a try over here for breakfast too, very different to home - the bacon an egg 'McGriddle' actually replaces the English muffin with 2 small oatmeal pancakes, it sounds disgusting (I know) but it was absolutely beautiful.... read more

Another jam packed day for us, where do I begin.... Started off the day at Mel's Diner, an American icon, with decor from the 50-60's with jukeboxes and booth seating right in the heart of Hollywood. A popular spot for celebs with their pictures plastered over the walls, used in film clips, but probably the most prominent the front facade of the Sunset Boulevard store was actually used in Happy Days. We then visited the Hollywood Museum.....all I can say is WOW, what a fantastic place with 3 floors of celebrity memorabilia, personal items and film props. They house the biggest Marilyn Monroe collection which I was totally in awe of. The pics don't do it justice, but needless to say it had everything from Dorothy's "ruby red" shoes from Wizard of Oz, to Hannibal Lecters ... read more

Arrived safe and sound in LA after an exhausting 13 hour flight, couldn't believe the size of LAX with over 145 terminals - makes Melbourne an Sydney look like Birdsville.Decided to eat a cup of concrete an tackle a full day of sightseeing instead of going for a nap in the hotel, consequently backing up over 30 hours 'awake' time - making the running of the gauntlet (Hollywood) interesting to say the least. Needless to say Day 2 (today) has really been our first true sightseeing outing.... read more

Rob Writes: Oh look! It’s my turn to write a blog again on a day which we did nothing but drive. Hold on folks, this is going to be an exciting one. We awoke early at our holiday resort hotel in San Diego and were keen to get our stuff together as we were driving to LA. First things first, however... breakfast! After we had satisfied the Escape’s everlasting thirst for its favourite tipple (87RON, pumped, not poured) we me moved onto satisfying our own breakfast needs at the Broken Yolk Cafe. This one was one of those Man v Food restaurants that all the kids talk about and served a right beast of a plate, one of those were you get it for free if you manage to conquer it alone. We had no such ... read more

Our last stop on the west coast of North America was LA. On one hand we were expecting the glamour of Hollywood, and on the other hand a city with long distances where you need to have a car to do anything at all. In order to not have to drive too far to see the glamour part we found ourselves an accommodation in East Hollywood, a few miles from the stars, footprints and the Chinese theatre. Alexander, our host, used the proud name "Gemini Manor" for his house. It was a house filled with collected oddities, made even more into a labyrith by Alexander renting out every available space so that you needed to circle around certain rooms. We had our own bathroom, although the bath tub was filled with a clown and a creepy ... read more

The flight from Stockholm to Los Angeles had three legs; Stockholm-London-New York-Los Angeles. We arrived to Los Angeles at 01:00 AM local time. The taxi driver drove VERY fast along the empty highways to our hotel in north Hollywood.
