Etter ca 15 ... read more

Today we went on a bus to Santa Monica, to have brunch at The Ivy with Dad's work and a bike ride tour after. Our tour guide took us around Venice beach, on our bikes and told us how a man that loved Venice so much wanted to create a Venice California. We saw old photos of it and it looked completely different to what it looked like when he was alive. This was because when he died the council couldn't get the money to keep it running. But we still got to see the canals with some privately owned gondolas, you needed to own a house though on the canals to own one or a boat (as the canal pen is part of the purchase of the house) and these can cost up to 25 ... read more

Well, after the madness of Vegas comes the rush of LA. Quite a drive in a hot desert to get across on a Monday morning: we made a decision to stop off at "Calico Ghost Town", an authentic ex-mining town from the silver-rush days of the late 1800's. It was an interesting place, but it has to be said the temperature was again in the 100's, and the best we could do was seek out occasional respite in the "stores" to try to take some cool air on board. The road continued hot, but as we approached LA the traffic density was noticably increased. We paid a short courtesy stop at the Guitar Centre on Hollywood, a huge store. I think we were all a bit too hot to be interested, and so we headed to ... read more

Absolutely knackered but WOW, have done so much already and only been here just over 24 hrs. Let us tell you it is very hot, Sunday when we arrived was 33, today it has been 30ish with not a cloud in the sky. The flight went well, early landing, but we have never seen so many queues for getting through customs in one airport in all our lives, never let it be said Americans don't do queuing, cus at LAX you have no choice, 1 hour to get past passport control, then after collecting your suitcases, you have to queue again to get out another 30 mins aaahhhhh Then we had to wait in another damn line to get the car, tempers were starting to get very frayed by this time, as we had been up ... read more

17th Aug ’12 San Francisco to Los Angeles, California The CA Shuttle bus that we were taking today was due to arrive at 11.45am, we were there very early waiting and it eventually arrived at 12.45! All us hot and hassled passengers got on. There was no explanation as to why it was late. We were the first of 4 pick-ups in the city and then it was direct to Hollywood. Once we got to the last pick up and the bus was full a very jolly Mexican man got on and thanked us all for using his bus service. He then welcomed us to California and ‘our wonderful country of the United States’, no one said anything, he then explained that we would only stop once, ‘at a Burger King in the middle of nowhere’ ... read more

LA sucks. But here are a few highlights none the less... Just so you know, in the photo of my badly bruised knee I'm actually in the process of getting some pretty bad sunburn on my legs... so really I should post an update as my leg has actually gotten more discoloured and gross since then. Joy! Much love, Streets. x... read more

Hello! I finished my three day tour down from San Francisco to Los Angeles yesterday. Travelled via Santa Babara, Santa Cruz, Monterey and Big Sur. It was a cool little trip, I got along very well with the tour leader, Rachel Bernhardt (Interpid/Trek America/Grand American Tours), and last night we went to see 'Rock of Ages' (the movie, not the stage show) and it was brilliant! I'd love to post some photos from the mini tour, especially the elephant seals we saw sunning themselves on a beach yesterday! They were so cute but also ridiculously ugly. Unfortunately the hostel only has one PC and it's the reception one, so I can't really take over! I might try to get online in the middle of the night so I'm not interferring with the receptionists... I'll see what ... read more

Before we know it, the sun is gone. My eyes try to adjust but I can’t figure out where we are. Then just as unexpected as the sudden darkness, I see them. Trees. My vision is a bit fuzzy, but the wide slabs of wood are unmistakable. I’m in a forest. And we’re not alone. I hear roars. The ground shakes. I hold on tight to the railings of the train car we’re on. And that’s where I first I lay my eyes on them. A group of T-rexes surround us, their eyes locked on us, charging straight towards us. We’re toast. I hear screaming from the other car. I just sit there, slack-jawed, my eyes trained towards a couple of the prehistoric beasts on the left side. A couple more on the right side. One ... read more

We took breakfast in some tiny hip little shop in Santa Monica. Before hopping onto the Star City Tours hop on hop off double-decker red bus. I let Sophie know that she was to set the itinerary, she assured me that this was the best way to see the city. She had been to the US as a young girl, but this was her first time really exploring LA. I’ll admit that I had not seen many of the things that we saw before this excursion, even though I have been to Los Angeles multiple occasions. Our tour started off in Santa Monica, the line we were on made a loop through ... read more
