Today was our 24th wedd anniversary. It seems we are usually on vacation when its our anniversary. We spent day looking at the fort on Gulf Shores and floating in the ocean. Found out later that there were warning flags out for jellyfish. Luckily none of us were stung! We ate dinner at a great place called Beach Picnic. It had BBQ and ribs. The food was fantastic! they had board games and card games lying around. We played Jenga, old maid, and Uno. It was a very nice dinner. ... read more

This entry covers our travel from Jacksonville Florida to the Great State of Texas. I have promised to my readers that we will share lessons learned along the journey as well as share interesting sites. The first photo was taken in Camping World where we had to deal with a generator that would not stay running. Electricity is a necessity for extreme telecommuting. Computers don't work very long without it. Non use of a generator will build up sludge. Thanks to Camping World we were up and running within a couple of hours. Of course girls have to shop so Sadie got a brand new raincoat. After all you can't get cold and wet on Denali. The second shot shows she travels well in her car seat. The first stop was in Pinson AL with Hal ... read more

The drive from French Quarter RV Resort in New Orleans LA to I-65 RV Campground in Mobile AL on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 was short and uneventful. I was set up by early afternoon and headed for the Visit Mobile Welcome Center to get some tips, particularly dining tips as Uncle Larry really likes fresh seafood. After my visitor center stop, I cruised about town and happened upon an interesting-looking ma and pa kind of eatery named Roshell's Seafood Cafe & Family Diner. Of course, I sat at the counter only a few feet away from the food preparation area. While I was awaiting my food order, I watched the cook making hamburger patties for the next day that had to be about 8-9 inches in diameter. The menu calls them “pure Angus steerburgers,” and they ... read more

Woke up this morning to rain. My raincoat got its third ever use. It needs more use in CA. This morning, I went to 2-1/2 museums. First, I went to the Rosa Parks Museum. Excellent place to visit and learn about Rosa Parks and what she did and ignited. Great interactive displays. I wish I could have taken some pictures but photography was not allowed. Second, I went to The Civil Rights Memorial Center. Again, this museum made you think a lot. I took a picture of a recent situation and I circled a paragraph in the description. Sadly, some of these terrible words were repeated recently. Can you figure out who I am talking about? Today was the grand opening and dedication of the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Many actors and stars were ... read more

I started today aboard a battleship (USS Alabama) a submarine (USS Drum) and looking at planes at the Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile. Love it. Thanks Pat for the recommendation. Love being on warships.....guess it’s a guy thing. On my way to Montgomery, I decided to take a side trip to Selma and I’m sure glad I did. I drove on a lot of small country roads and when I arrived in Selma, I surprise myself how emotional it was walking on the bridge. I talked to a few people visiting the bridge and they felt the same. I drove through the town to get a feel for it and I came across some beautiful houses and some very run down houses. Still, a very poor community. I ran into a little problem when I arrived ... read more

We arrived to our first night location, Auburn RV Park at Leisure Time Campground. It was a couple blocks off the interstate - for a over-night stay this was perfect! We were greeted by a lovely lady - took Mark on her golf cart to show him a couple spots for us to choose from. He picked a wonderful pull-through spot right on a stream. The night was perfect - weather was in the 60's - no jacket needed :) Marie, remember that gel fire starter we bought years ago? We used that to start this fire - so easy - if we find any more we need to definitely pick some up!! We met two couples - one headed to Paris Island to see their grandson graduate and the other was headed to Hilton Head... ... read more

We left Gaffney SC with plans to stop overnight at Auburn RV Park at Leisuretime Campground to get a good night's rest in prep for an early morning departure to New Orleans. The Campground Host was very nice and dropped by our site to visit with us and welcome us to Auburn Al. We had expected a nice roadside overnight park, but were pleasantly surprised with a beautiful Creekside lot and some of the nicest folks we've ever met in the adjacent lot. After sitting a few minutes in the warm sun enjoying the sounds of running water, we decided to extend a day. It was a very good decision, we broke bread with our new friends and enjoyed the best weather of our trip. The D2s next door are from Detroit on their way to ... read more

blog 11-04-17 Visiting in Hoover Our plan was to sleep in this morning but apparently the dogs had other ideas. First Alfy heard something outside and barked his very loud inturder bark. Then Lynus had to see what was happening so he joined in. OK, we got that settled down fairly quickly, just back to sleep when it happened all over again. Ok shut the door, back to bed. By that time it was almost 8 am so we were doomed from getting any more sleep, the boys were now hungry and crying for breakfast. We gave up. We moved slowly, enjoyed breakfast and coffee outside enjoying the 70 plus temps. The dogs had their walk then it was time to go visit a friend of Ginnie's that lives about 9 miles away in Hoover, AL. ... read more
