The prices were overpriced. I will just settle for Garage Sales. Glenn looked for tennis shoes, but didn't find a pair.As we were walking in, an employee met us and asked us where we were from. With the reply as "Guatemala", she said "Have you eaten lunch?" and she handed us cards for 2 free meals at the coffee shop. After exploring the warehouse, Glenn and I each had a sandwich there in the coffee shop, then we continued towards the Wilkersons. We did do a Letterbox called "The Boys of Scottsboro" It was at a ... read more

Geo: 34.7059, -86.7509This posting was NOT prof-read by Glenn, so please disregard any grammatical mistakes that I have posted. After the time at the Unclaimed Baggage Store and doing the letterbox, we headed directly west towards Madison, AL.As we we driving by Huntsville, AL, I asked Glenn to pull off and we exited just in time to park at the US Space and Rocket Center. I wanted to see how much it would cost to go into the buildings and stuff. Bottom line - too much. However, we did walk around OUTSIDE to see the space shuttles, rockets and boosters. Awesome. We did get some great pictures. I mentioned to Glenn that we had already seen the Space Shuttle at the Air and Space Museum back in DC 2 weeks ago.We continued on to Madison and visited with ... read more

Today when we woke up it was raining heavily so we went to the front desk of our campground (Yogi Nashville) to look into staying another night which we thought would be no problem since the park was not even half full, but they would not allow us to stay another night at $35 (passport rate) they were going to charge $70 so we decided to pack up and move on. The drive itself was not too bad once we got out of Nashville, but we did see multiple accidents. I would like to say that was due to the rain, but I believe that some of that is just normal in Nashville, we are so glad to be out of there, if you can avoid the area with your travel trailer I would. We drove ... read more

North America » United States » Alabama » Fort Payne June 16th 2016

Greetings from Fort Payne, AL. 606 miles today! If you've never had occasion to ride a motorcycle 600 miles in a day, let me just say this: There's a reason why cowboys walk that way. I left Morgantown at 5:00am and arrived here in Fort Payne 12 hours later. This morning's ride through the West Virginia and Virginia mountains was beautiful, the best riding so far. These are the kind of roads that motorcycles are made for. Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama were just plain HOT. In fact, it was the heat rather than fatigue that made me stop for the night. I've decided that the rest of the trip will be at night. I just can't take the heat during the day. The new Ultimate seat on the Mothership is worlds better than my old Corbin ... read more

North America » United States » Alabama » Gadsden June 14th 2016

Google Maps told me the trip from Birmingham South Campground in Pelham AL to the River Country Campground in Gadsden AL would be about 90 miles and would take about 1 ½ hours, so I engaged in a little housekeeping before stowing my gear for the trip. The drive went without a hiccup, and I arrived in early afternoon on June 8, 2016. In spite of my late start (and because of my early finish), I made a drive to the Greater Gadsden Area Tourism Center in downtown Gadsden. This facility is more like the Chamber of Commerce than a tourism center, but the helpful young man, who appeared from a rear office after I had entered, answered a couple of questions and provided a couple of dining tips. My first undertaking in the Gadsden area, ... read more

We drove 12 hours the first day, we thought that we were never going to leave Florida. Once we finally did leave Florida we were thrown into an unexpected situation, going into a tunnel in Alabama. We did a quick google search and kept reading how steep it was but thankfully the trailer and Nate pulled thru it well. By the time we arrived we were exhausted, but excited to meet up with some old friends and grateful that God was with us for this trip. See pictures below.... read more

North America » United States » Alabama » Birmingham June 7th 2016

I had a beautiful sunny day to make the drive from Benchmark RV Park in Meridian MS to Birmingham South Campground in Pelham AL, a southern suburb of Birmingham AL (population 212,237 in 2010). The trip of about 150 miles and 2 ½ hours on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 was totally uneventful. June! Really? I haven’t even left the Deep South, and it is already June. I’d better hurry north for, as the temperatures rise so does my latitude! I almost made a serious mistake by omitting Vulcan Park & Museum in Birmingham from my itinerary. If one wants a synopsis of the history of Birmingham, here it is. The Vulcan statue is the city symbol of Birmingham, reflecting its roots in the iron and steel industry. The 56-foot tall, 120,000-pound statue, which stands on a ... read more

I really enjoy staying in the Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds. The sites are spacious, the setting is serene and (with my half price senior rate) the price is right; however, there are few close enough to my tourist destinations to make them practical. I plan to use them a lot after I become less of a tourist and more of a squirrel watcher. Thus, I departed the Albany RV Resort in Albany GA on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 to move to the Gunter Hill Campground on R.E. (Bob) Woodruff Lake, a Corps of Engineers facility, near Montgomery AL (2013 Population: 201,332). The length and duration of this leg of The Great Adventurewas more to my liking – about 180 miles and 3 ½ hours – and had no gremlins in the offing. The hourly weather ... read more
