Monday, February 17 We were up early and Jorge drove us at 6 am to our pick up spot for Charter Club Tours. We were going to Puerto Vallarta for a few days. It was a full bus and a long drive but I’m glad we chose to go by bus as the scenery was beautiful. We drove through the mountains on winding roads. As we made our way from the centre of Mexico to the coast, the terrain changed continually. We saw the mountains, deep ridges, fields of farmland and orchards. I found the mango orchards close to Puerto Vallarta very interesting. We are used to seeing apple, pear and other orchards in Canada and we are used to seeing Mango trees in the Caribbean growing randomly in yards and fields. In fact, we are ... read more

Our six hour bus ride here passed quickly..lots of room on the bus....only $40 for the two of us in first class... We arrived right in the old part of PV, where our hotel is located, and found the place quickly, after asking for directions once. It's part of a very large hotel complex, but the Dona Susana is small and older, and on a dead-end street.... An old friend from my Paris days is staying here too. We have been traveling to the same places for years, but never at exactly the same time...so we are spending time together for the first time in over 35 years! PV can only be described as over-the-top....crowds everywhere, with a mix of young/old, gay/straight...and everything in between. Few Mexicans....It's a big city, but the only interesting part is ... read more

I have been to Mexico many times. This was my first trip to Puerto Vallarata aka Vallarata aka PV. I stayed at the gorgeous beachside Dreams Resort. This all-inclusive beauty is nestled back in a secluded beach. They offer all the food you can eat, all the fruity cocktails you can drink and relaxing in the sunshine. There are daily activities, themed parties and excursions. With all the onsite entertainment(included) to fill weeks of fun you really never need to leave the resort, but I suggest venturing out to town. Downtown PV must see..... Daytime on the Melacon, there is an abundance of touristy shops, delicious restaurants, and refreshing helados (ice cream) with beautiful views of the ocean, a stroll down this "boardwalk" is the perfect afternoon activity. For you night owls, the magical Melacon turns ... read more

Hey blog readers, we are back! This year we had decided to go to Greece. Then Croatia, then Equador... then, we traded our valuable Avion points for worthless British Air points, and took a Mexican cooking class. The predictable result is we have decided to visit beautiful Mexico, specically the Oaxaca region. Why, do you ask, have we listed our first location as Puerto Vallarta? Because of the cheap and direct Westjet flights, of course. Also, what would a trip to Mexico be without a day at the beach? We landed on Saturday, and had no trouble finding a honest cab to our great B and B in central Vallarta, Casa Amorita. It is a relatively new place, built by a New Jersey lady who obviously has a love for indoor/outdoor spaces. It was hosted by ... read more

It has been so long since I have written. Lazy, thats all. Had an awsome visit with Mark and Clay in November. Such a treat to have my boys all to ourselves! We ate, drank, saw great stuff and generally had a good time. I had my hammertoes fixed while the guys were here. I had thought I better wait until they went home but their comments were "Yeah go, if you have your toes done, does that mean we get to sit around for a few days". That decided it. My toes are great. When I was home at Christmas I actually bought some close toed shoes that didn't kill my feet. Yeah hoo. Such an easy process. Mike and Margaret Walsh were in Guayabitos for a month over Christmas so had lots of nice ... read more

We hit the road for our first solo trip without much sleep. Ed was snarfleing all night and I think we were both a little anxious. Ed went to sleep after 1am and me after 2am. We did okay. The Garmin said the trip should take 5 hours and it took us 6. Lots of steep windy roads and we were often stuck behind double trailer trucks that were crawling along. The Highway climbed over the Sierra Madre mountain range and we where over 6,000 ft. elevation. The views were really incredible, but hard to enjoy because you both have to watch the road every minute. The small towns in Mexico have speed bumps called “Topes”. You encounter Topes as you enter each town, at school crossings and often, for no reason at all. Often they ... read more

My first trip to Mexico, alone. As I waited for my plane to arrive at Toronto Person Airport, I was surrounded by no-one. I am not being drastic, there was not one person in site waiting to board a flight to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I had been to Puerto Vallarta twice before, for some fun in the sun winter vacationing so it was quite surprising to see not one person in the waiting area, knowing full well it is a tourist destination. At first i thought I was in the wrong waiting area, and after compulsively re-checking the flight boards over 3 times I was at peace. It was a Sunday afternoon, and raining calmly. I had time to simply think, think about my trip, think about the bad relationship I was in at the time. ... read more

I arrived in the evening, to be welcomed by the friendly staff with a beer. I knew then the hostel was going to be good. There are only a couple of us staying at the hostel, there are more staff there then there are guests. Arriving on a friday, it would be rude to not going out with the hostel after a warm invite. So we all packed into the hostel van and headed out to the center of the town for a night out. Day1- Was spent walking the streets and beach of the town to get my bearings, sunburn and take some touristy photos. Unfortunately the beach has no surf, so my plans for world surfing domination have been put on hold till i can head south to another 'known' surf beach. Day2- Headed ... read more

Cruising the night we arrived in Puerto Vallarta the following morning and it was ashore again to visit the hot and humid town. Hot man it must be 40 and humid as all get out, wandering around the port we chose a short guided tour taking in a small village, a Tequila tasting (of course it is Mexico after all) shopping and the old town. Mexico is a dangerous place and all the advice we had was do not leave town without a guide and stay in groups so we did this. We were driven around the coast past the expensive houses to a stop with fantastic views over the bay. Leaving there we were taken inland to a small village that made tequila and were shown a great time, drank tequila and bought tequila. The ... read more
