Finally, regrettably, after nearly a month of constant 30+ temperatures, sunshine and beaches, we slouched away from the Pacific coast, loaded down with some cool memories, and (me anyway) a totally ruined body from too much activity. We spent a few nights in Acapulco, which is worse than any horror stories you´ve read about beach resort places. However, seeing the Clavidistas doing there diving at sunset was pretty awesome. I imagined it being higher, but i still wouldnt have got any where near it, psychos. From here we went to Pie De La Cuesta, only 10k away, but the journey there took us 1hour, and the journey back took us longer. From what i could work out alll because 2 diggers were breaking rocks by the side of the road, not even on the road, just ... read more

If Cuernevaca is the city of the Eternal Spring, and as many down here claim "the most beautiful and most forgotten city in all of Mexico", they must never have been to Acapulco. After a week of intense (and I say that with no exaggeration whatsoever) spanish classes, we all could use a break. Although the appeal of the sand and the sun would later turn out not as relaxing as expected, our itinerary had us headed to Acapulco, Mexico for the weekend. After a day of daunting and what seemed like never ending classes, we all got ready to get on the bus at 2:45. Unfortunatley Mexicans really have no concept of time. The buses showed up somewhere around 3 and after loading all the luggage, getting everyone settled and signed in, we probably left ... read more

Along with a couple of people from Angela's Hostel we took the bus to Acapulco which was a 5 hour ride. We proved that we are hardcore backpackers by walking to the bus station in the heat of the midday sun. On hindsight this was probably not the best idea as it was really hot and by the end of it Kiki's face was red like a tomato for about an hour. Luckily it was not a sunburn but a case of over heating. In fact it was so hot that the glue which held Monia's trekking shoes together started melting and they began to come apart. The journey itself felt pretty long, but we were amused by the crazy bus driver who seemed to be concentrating on everything but the road ahead. He was smoking, ... read more

The journey to Mexico City went smoothly and as the airport is located in the middle of the city we got a great view from the plane. We took a taxi to the Central Autobuses del Sur to get a bus to the Pacific Coast. Our plan was to take a night bus in order to arrive in the morning and thereby save one night's accommodation. This meant however that we had to wait the whole day at the bus station as the bus was not due to leave until 9:30pm. After we bought our tickets with Estrella Blanca, we entertained ourselves by roaming around the area, having coffees at different places, eating Mexican food at the market.... but unfortunately there was not much else to do or see. When it finally got to 9:30 we ... read more

Acapulco...town of chickens on the beach! I have to admit its not my favorite place. By a long shot! Its extremely humid for one! But more importantly its dirty, its ugly, its polluted and there is FAR too much traffic! Even the old town doesnt have that much charm...the zocalo is reasonable but the markets are horrible, its bad enough being harssed to buy something at every step but having it done in English really irritates me! If I were a rich cruise ship passenger and stopped off there, or Id flown all the way from Europe for the holiday of a lifetime I would NOT be impressed! Still its not that bad! We hit the town in the low season so it was quite quiet and because its not that glitzy its pretty cheap! We ... read more

We have just had the most amazing weekend ever! I cant wait until the easter holidays now for more travelly fun and high jinx. We all met up on the first weekend we were all free in Cuernavaca, the biggest city in Morelos, which is quite a nice town, nothing offensive and the zocalo is really pretty. Becky and I were first to arrive and sourced ourselves a room for the night, having been let down by the Lonely Planets first suggestion (which after an hours searching turned out to not exist) we signed for a double matrimonial suite for the night, only $100 each, what a bargain! So when we were united with first Kerry, and later Ed, we went out to a bar which had a live salsa band playing and all the customers ... read more

We were well-situated to watch the eclipse on the 20th. It was wonderful to see it from Acapulco! We spent our last full day in Acapulco exploring the "new" part of the city and some of the oldest. We walked part of the main Acapulco beach, where the high rise hotels are, and Spring Break happens. The beaches were crowded in spots and open in others. There were para-sailing outfits all along the beach. We next visted the old zocalo (or town square), church, and fort, passing by the cruise ship dock. I made one last call, still trying to locate my missing bag, but no luck. Next we went up to the cliffs where the famous divers put on their show. The road itself was pretty: steep cliffs dropping to a rocky coast with waves ... read more

Well, we corrected our mistake, and took a bus back to Acapulco yesterday. We are staying at a "beach resort" in the faded grandeur of old Acapulco...we are right on a little beach, in a hotel that has seen better days, but is clean and has a pool, beach chairs (although the Italian Canadians who are here en masse snag most of them at sunrise) and a beautiful view. We are among the youngest people here.....and the least tan...and I mean tan as in leather.... We walked up the hills above the hotel this morning and saw some abandoned properties and some beautiful homes, along with nice family hotels. The salt water is clean, it appears, and everyone is friendly and helpful... We loved Taxco, but the traffic was unbearable, especially since there are no sidewalks ... read more

We spent our last day in Zihua swimming, going to a political rally, and eating on the beach..today we travelled nine hours by bus to Taxco, and made our first mistake of the trip...we had to change buses in Acapulco, and realized too late that we should have broken the trip up by staying there over night.... We made it here, tired and hungry, but found a great hotel (Mi Casita) with a room for $62 that has a private rooftop balcony and breakfast included.... We had dinner in a little restaurant in a house next to the Cathedral..the owner grew up in Laredo TX, and moved back whe his mother died and left the house. Great food and conversation.... ... read more

We arrived here on Friday afternoon, after a comfortable four and half hour bus ride arcoss mountains and valleys from Patzcuaro. This is a different country from Patzcuaro and Morelia..very touristy and tourist driven. Everyone attempts to speak English to us, and to sell us something....but the beaches are beautiful and the seafood great....Hotels are more expensive: we are paying $92 a night here compared to $35 in Morelia and Patzcuaro...but we have an ocean view..and direct access to the beach. Today, Saturday, I woke up early and decided to go for a run on the beach, since I was feeling better. There were many runners and walkers; a mix of Mexicans and gringos. Again here, there are many older people, and not many backpackers. After my run I waited til the sun came up far ... read more
