I’m slowly starting to fall into the routine of this latest ship. Though it always takes time to feel completely settled and at ease. All of the sea days on our current itinerary are really draining, so when we finally get the break of a port day it’s tempting to just stay in bed all day! But I’ve been making myself get up and out. Yesterday we were in Acapulco and a group of us headed to the movies for an afternoon matinee. But this was no ordinary movie theatre, this was a VIP theatre and it was spectacular! We had leather reclining seats (footrests and everything) to lie back in, or in my case, curl up in. Then there are servers who come around to your seats to take orders for snacks, drinks, food. I ... read more

The Sunday after the wedding (see previous blog) we went on a bus ride to Mexico City - it was excellent, we practically had business class aeroplane seats and 2 x movies - fantastic! After a short taxi ride across town we arrived at yet another lovely hotel (Condesa Haus, I would highly recommend it) which had a four legged bath in the room, in the very pretty suburb of Condesa. Sadly we found out we were in for 3 days of (light) rain in Mexico City ... never mind. We started our first day by waiting 45mins for the Turibus, we were about to give up and jump in one of the many cabs - lucky Scott was more patient that me. It was a good way to get a feel for this mega-city with ... read more

March 12, 09, Thaddeus and I pulled into Troncones at 5:30 in our rented Nissan, all boards accounted for. Saw a few waves breaking at the Troncones T as we pulled into the little town. A right turn took us to Casa Delfin Sonriente where we had booked a week for this, our first trip. Glen, the owner, checked us in and recommended we surf on the beach out front of the Casa for glass off and so we grabbed our boards and got wet right away. It was a little walled up but we could pull into some hollow corners and every body unwound from the flight and we had the waves and the sunset all to ourselves. We unpacked, showered, and walked to the closest restaurant, about two hundred yards north, a little family ... read more

We departed the Fairmont Acapulco Princess after a 3 day stay and took a taxi up the Costera Alleman to Las Brisas. It was unbelieveable to see all of the new construction that has taken place on this road since our last trip here in 2000. We turned right at the familiar white and pink wall entrance to Las Brisas and drove up the hill to reception. We were welcomed with their signature pink margarita and registered while sitting in the comfy wicker chairs that looked out over Acapulco Bay. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our room to be ready and were then driven in one of their famous pink and white shuttle jeeps up to our private casita #342. Our casita was situated on the third level of the steep uphill winding ... read more

I hands down had one of the best times ever in Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. I did so many cool things. I went para sailing, sailing, ate raw oysters off the beach, swam through coral, and slept on the beach! And, ah, the beach! The trip was really affordable as well. I think I payed about $200 US dollars the whole 3 days including bus. I also ate like 30 something oysters and some lobster. Not a bad deal. Words seriously cannot describe how amazing the whole trip was, so I will leave it up to my videos and pictures to show you how amazing it was.... read more

We flew in on Aeromexico. I am still impressed by the seat comfort and service they provide on board. The cockpit staff and flight attendants are always friendly and cheerful. We breezed through immigration at the brand new terminal in Mexico City; a big improvement over the old one. There were plenty of shopping, eating and drinking diversions to keep us occupied for our 3-hr. layover. We made the 1-hr scheduled flight from Mexico City to Acapulco in 30 minutes time and whisked through baggage claim and customs. We were greeted by only one timeshare salesman from the Mayan Resorts. A breath of fresh air compared to getting bombarded by them at other Mexico resort airports. He politely accepted “No” for our answer to taking a tour and walked us over to the taxi stand and ... read more

Day 17 We caught a bus to La Placita where we watched as they butchered a cow on the street with an axe. We got back on the bus and continued on to Lazaros Cardenas where we walked 1 block and immediately caught a bus to Zihuatanejo. It was a long day of riding the winding coastal highway 200. Zihuatanejo is a collection of a small group of beaches most of which are connected by a pleasant winding board walk. After not hearing english for so long we couldn't help but be disappointed at the number of english speaking tourist wandering the beaches and streets. Zihuatanejo is located in a bay which is great for boats seeking a safe harbour and families with small children seeking it's shallow gentle waves. Day 18 We decided to leave ... read more

Day 2 was rather uneventful, the plane arrived on time, we left on time and landed in a typical day in Acapulco. 30 Degrees and not a cloud in the sky. We excaped the gouging taxis fares just to discover no taxis would pick us up on the road outside the Airport. We decided to take a local chicken bus complete with holes in the floors and no glass in the windows. The Woman in front of us skillfully breast feeding her toddler while careening down the mountain road. Having no idea where this bus would take us we decided to debus when it turned off the main road. From there we catch a taxi that knew our hotel and said he would take us there. But two thirds of the way the driver changed his ... read more

Having flown AA twice in the past 5 years and both times having issues with mechanical problems with the plane, we weren´t surprised to find that when we arrived at the air port at 4:30 am that our flight had been cancelled due to mechanical problems. The first attendent placed us on stand by for another flight to Chicago but apon arriving at our gate we were informed we were dreaming if we thought we could get on the next flight. This attendent put us on a stand by for Dallas that would connect to a flight to Acapulco. After an anxious hour we were thrilled to receive boarding passes with actual seat numbers. Although Neil remained skeptical not believing our good fortune until sitting in his seat. While standing in line to board the plane ... read more
