This place is very Montreal - Daniel Deason 2002 That was a phrase used to describe the town hall hotel in north melbourne but i guess it could also be used to describe...well...Montreal...this place is very beautiful but also so so cold...the people here really don't speak a great deal of english but you can easily get by...and they don't seem to mind if you talk english to them...or not that we can tell anyway... yesterday we watched the Olympic Ice Hockey at a sports bar...and you know in australia when you go to the footy and you spend more time abusing your own players for imcompetance than actually encouraging them or congratulating them? eg...come on lloydy you f!@#ing girl, put your bloody body on the line!!...well they don't do that here...they are super super serious ... read more

I'll see you all again in 30 long sweet days. From now on these journals wiill be filled with happy thoughts, exotic stories, grand adventures, close calls, and nothing naughty whatsoever. The bus back to Calgary left at 6.30. So the alarm rung at 5.20... Pfff.. Hard to get out of bed.. The annoying thing was that, after we got dressed, we found out the kitchen, where we left our groceries for the bus ride, had been locked. It was supposed to open at 6, but it didn't, so we headed over to the bus without our nice food... :( However, Mat could not bear the disappointment, so he ran (!) back after we checked in, with only 15 minutes left before the bus would leave. A few minutes before departure Mat returned, as Freya and I already expected, empty-handed.. However, the bus did not leave at 6.30, not at 6.40.. etc. There appeared to be something wrong with the bus, so we had to wait for ... read more

After walking a bit through downtown we had dinner with the six of us and James and Stefan. (at least, most of us had dinner, Michi just ahd got her thoung pierced that day, so she wasn't able to eat anything). Afterwards we had some cocktails at the place Mat and I discovered the last night. You can imagine we all slept very well that night..Finally we managed to start the day with a real American breakfast, including pancakes and everything :). Very satisfied we drove to Fort Rob afterwards. Although there was not that much left of the fort, the scenery was really pretty. And Freya and I really liked the rocks ;).. In the afternoon we went to what is supposed to be the major attraction of Victoria, the BC Royal Museum. Over there ... read more

The original plan was to go to Seattle today. However, some research showed us this was not as easy as we thought it would be. One ferry didn't go in winter, one didn't take cars and the other left earliest at 4 pm. The only option would be to get up very very early, take the ferry to Vancouver and then drive to Seattle. But since this would leave us only very little time to spend in Seattle, we changed our minds and decided to spend another day in Vancouver instead. We planned to take the ferry at 11, but this one was unfortunately already full, so we had to wait for over 2 hours for the next one. Thank god for inventing playing cards ;).. When we finally arrived in Vancouver, we decided to use ... read more

well we have finally left Memphis and are quite sad about it...i touched on this in my last entry but just re-iterate....Memphis is a great place to go and a place where you could stay for a long time without ever getting bored...we spent the last few nights doing more of the same..drinking beer from a pub with 70 beers on tap (70! just on tap)..playing pool and listening to fantastic music and eating well...reasonable food...i can safely say i will be back in memphis...soon.. has any one heard of the ten tenors?? they played at the Brisbane vs Port Adelaide grand final....well we met them last night...they were at the pub with the 70 beers on tap...very nice bunch of guys...it would have great to have seen their show...especially since they said they would have ... read more

Yup, I've arrived back at my batcave located right in the middle of nowhere Canada. Now begins the job search and the restlessness until my next far out adventure. Ah yes...the next trip. Definately getting off the continent again I figure, I have a really bad case of wanderlust with a heaping side of lunacy that needs to be fufilled. I can never rest in one place for long or else I start to lose it. I have to see the whole world yet and I'm only up too around 10 countries explored in great detail so far. That's a ton left to go to! I'm excited thinking of all the possibilities yet to come :D If only travelling was cheaper. Same with booze. Better yet everything should be free...yeah that would work. *Reminder on next ... read more

Monday we left early to go to Vancouver Island. I was really glad we rented a car, so we could just throw all stuff immediately in the trunk. After a short drive and a ferry ride we arrived at the largest Island of Canada, or at least the largest one at the West Coast. First place to visit was Nanaimo, which is supposed to be known best for its harbor. However, this harbor seemed really just a joke to me. The rest of Nanaimo was not that exciting either, although I must admit downtown was not as bad as the harbor. So after lunch we decided we had seen enough of Nanaimo and we got into the car again. On our wy to Victoria we saw the totems in Duncan, had coffee in a little café ... read more

18/2/2006 It was up early again to return the car before 8a.m, and I got it there safely. I'm very proud of myself that I managed to navigate Canada without the hint of an accident, considering I've lost count of how many times I've nearly been run over crossing the road. For the rest of the day we tied up loose ends in preparation for our journey to Billings, Montana. It's been 15 years since I went to school in Billings so I was excited/nervous/apprehensive all at the same time. 19/2/2006 Packing wasn't much fun, and luckily for me Beck did the majority of the work sore elbow and all. We have been so lucky to have the use of Sal and Phil's house and hopefully some day we can repay them one way or another. ... read more

To enjoy the wonderful free breakfast buffet, we had to get up before 9.. (By the way, we decided immediately that this breakfast wasn't worth getting up this early, so we would go somewhere else the next time. The weather was even better than the day before, the sun shining, blue sky, perfect. Especially since we left Calgary when it was -26 degrees Celsius, we very much appreciated this change of weather. We spent the morning in the well-known Stanley Park, which is a huge park with all kinds of things which are worth visiting, a little harbor, beaches, forests, totems, an aquarium, etc. In the morning we visited the aquarium, what made Michi the happiest girl alive at that moment ;), at least, that's how it appeared to me. After a nice lunch in a ... read more
