It's always dangerous to write about experiences that occurred almost two months ago. With the passage of time comes a natural romantisization. The nostalgic part of my brain has already added a soundtrack and cut out the down time. But my warm feelings of Saskatchewan in summer never change. Dennie and I touched down in Regina tired and excited in early July with high expectations of weddings, bbq’s, family dinners, backyard parties, music festivals and camping trips. Another year brought change; relationships came and went, friends moved away and others returned, babies turned into toddlers, and failing football clubs transformed into Grey Cup Champions. Still, the sun brought with it an eruption of good vibes found only in such places as this. In the way that John Steinbeck writes about the stink of Cannery Row with ... read more

The drive wasn’t too bad but we were both exhausted from the trail. We arrived in Regina around 9 and went to the hostel where we wanted to stay, but it was all full. So we had our first night in a half decent motel. In the morning we headed to the farmers market downtown, which we were expecting to be pretty good since we’re in farm country. However, we were pretty disappointed at the size and selection there. Go figure. We only ended up buying a big bag of spinach and a big bag of mixed field greens, which were both very nice. ... read more

5 hours to go. Am sufficiently pre-tired. "Pre-tired" is sort of like "pre-drinking", except that it doesn't involve booze. No wait,... "pre-tired" is nothing like "pre-drinking". So, my plan has been to get up 2 or 3 hours earlier than usual, which makes the time difference only +6 rather than +8. Next, on the 8 hour flight to Amsterdam, is to stay awake for the first hour, but then to sleep for at least 6 (17:00 to 23:00 here, 01:00 to 07:00 there). Unless my math is wrong, or the time zones don't work as I planned, I will have completely shifted to Austria time by the time was arrive in Vienna. I hope.... read more

Okay,... so all that remains is to pack. I think. Routes are planned, bookings are made, passports are valid,... all that good stuff. I'm going to try to figure out if it's possible to show our first excursion in Vienna on a map. Until we get to Europe, there will likely be more posting at the Broads Abroad site. ... read more

Hello everyone! Only 3 sleeps until my folks and I depart for Europe - specifically Portugal and Spain. I'm vibrating with excitement!!! I haven't done the blogging thing since my last trip - to SouthEast Asia last January and thought it might be nice to do it again to share my travels with you, my family and friends. We are spending the first week or so travelling around Portugal and then will head off to Spain. We are overseas 3 weeks in total. I sure am looking forward to the sun! That is about it. I look forward to sharing the stories.... Love Pamela... read more

The Time Has Come The day has finally arrived and tomorrow I will be setting off to South America for my first real trip. The general route that is planned is to fly into Bogota, Colmbia. From there, travel will take us north to the coast to see the beaches, then back down the western side of Colombia until we reach Ecuador. Some time will be spent in Ecuador before travelling down the coastline of Peru until we reach Lima. After spending several days in Lima, our plane will be boarded and we will return home. When it is squished into a couple sentences, it really doesn't seem like it is that much distance to travel, but I am sure that once down there, my opinion will change.... read more

Well hello! I've just discovered your comments on the blog site! Looks like comments get posted here and messages go to our emails directly. These modern day technologies! Sorry to the 4 people that left comments and they were unanswered. Now we know to check there! We are currently in Regina, Saskatchewan staying at Karen's. Thanks a bunch, Karen! The temps are much higher in this neck of the woods, so to speak (woods?). We had a lovely plus 12-ish Celcius today. We have had a very relaxing day walking around the parks in the area and watching the prairie dogs. Yesterday we took the number 2 highway from Winnipeg avoiding the Trans-Canada Craziness. We were very fortunate to see a very large migration of geese and gulls cross over the highway. There were thousands of ... read more

I've set up a communal blog site( Broads Abroad ) for most of our Europe trip, but thought I'd keep this one for this, and future trips. I already have far too many blogs, but that's primarily because I haven't found one that's perfect for me yet. Perhaps the only solution to this problem is for me to learn HTML. I'm not ready for that, however. I added some people as subscribers because they aren't on Facebook (but also, just to be confusing, added others who are on Facebook). So, anyway,... we've now booked and paid for everything we want to book and pay for at this point. We three are all taking notes, reading and making plans. I'm doing these things as a way to avoid end-of-term marking; the other two mouseketeers are retired.... read more

A few more photos that I thought you might enjoy. It is hard to believe that the last entry was 3 weeks ago. I rather quickly settled into life at home but share stories at the drop a of a hat! Hope all is well... read more
