CanadaMaureen Kelly/Robert Tait June 27. We left Williston early and began our drive to Canada, Regina, which is the capital of Saskatchewan. Crossing the border in these remote areas is a lot easier than some of the busier crossings. We stayed out on the edge of town and drove into town. There we found a great biking trail around the Wascana Center. It is on of the largest urban parks in North America. After biking for a while around the lake we headed into town on Albert Street. It is a biker friendly town., and we biked around the city. Of course, Bob found a brewery and we stopped on our way back. June 28. We discovered the Wascana bike/pedestrian trail connects to several trails, so we biked and biked…some lovely areas. When I looked around ... read more

All the way to Ft. Qu’Appelle! Wednesday, 27 June 2007 Although it was still pretty cool this morning, it was nowhere as bad as yesterday, so I took Blue & cycled from our hotel to Fort Qu’Appelle. Bob & Panna would come along later to meet me & bring me back. Fortunately the winds were favourable, for the most part, and with a bit of encouragement from Bob, who told me at 50-km that it was only another 13+ km to Fort Qu’Appelle & that the route would finish with a LONG descent, I decided to go all the way. (And I told myself I’d “earn” a hot fudge sundae at the local Dairy Queen.) Aside from that it was a fairly uneventful ride - I do like going on the highways here, especially when the ... read more

It’s supposed to be summer!! Tuesday, 26 June 2007 Today dawned cold and WINDY. Cold and windy enough that I decided against even trying to ride a bike today. Bob had gone to a lot of trouble to clean the mud off of Silver, so that I could use that bike on the trails again today, but it just didnt seem like it would be worth the effort. And I figured I should spend the odd day with him & Panna. So we drove to the Wascana Valley Natural Provincial Recreation Site - long name, sorry! This place had been mentioned to me yesterday by the fellow in the town office of Lumsden, who said it was a popular area for hard-core mountain bikers, due to the very hilly nature of the terrain. And hilly it ... read more

Mud Mud Mud!!! Monday, 25 June 2007 Yesterday we drove from Moose Jaw to Regina. It’s not very far away, but we had taken pretty much everything out from the van, partly to assess what we had, plus to keep it from sliding around as we drove around. So it took a bit of time to get everything “in place” & where it was wanted in the van. Upon arriving in Regina we WERE able to check into our hotel early, and then we went to lunch at a nearby place called “Burger Baron” which advertises itself as having been voted the “best burgers in Regina (or maybe Saskatchewan)”. Well, their onion rings were pretty good, as were the “tater tots”, but the burgers were eminently forgettable - almost made the clown’s burgers look good! It ... read more

So sind ... read more

After a 29 hour journey I arrived in Regina last night @ 8pm...The city looked lovely with street lights on the snow... and my house was quite inviting!! I slept very well when I was finally horizontal but suspect the 12hour time change may take some adjustment. My adventure was wonderful !! Look forward to sharing more stories with you in the near future.... read more

Well, the New Year has arrived and I am excited for all that is to come!! The countdown is on -- yes!!! my trip is BOOKED! I depart Canada on Sunday, January 21st/07 for Bangkok, Thailand where my adventure will begin. I plan to travel for 4 weeks and my route will be as follows: Bangkok - Northern Thailand (Chang Mai, etc.) - Laos (Louang Prabang, Vangvieng, Vientianne) - Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi an, Hue, Na trang, HoChiMin/Saigon - Cambodia (Siem Riep, Phnom Phen, Ankor) and back to Thailand. If I have time at the end (doubtedly) I'd like to venture south to visit some Islands/beaches that Southern Thailand is notorious for. I realize that I have packed alot into 4 weeks, but you know me...gotta make the most of that precious vacation time. I ... read more

June 20, 2006- Someone famous once wrote " We saw stars and waves, we saw sand too, and despite many crises and unforseen disasters, we were often bored, just as we are here." People travel the world in search of adventure and happiness, but no matter where they are and who their with on this rock, the universal restlessness of the human spirit prevents them from being completely satisfied. Some would say that if travel and adventure only create a a thirst for more travel then why not stop, save your money, find someone to love and get on with the natural progression of life: marriage, a pet chinchilla, divorce, fighting over custody of the chinchilla, etc... Maybe one day that will make sense for me. But for now, I'm ok with existing to feed that ... read more
