Geo: 43.7336, -79.3651Had a drive around Toronto's swanky suburbs this morning. The Bridal Path area with dozens of mansions on 1-2 acre lots was most impressive. Lunch with Eddie and a quick look around the city hall area, and then home for admin and cleanup.Damn, didn't make time for the CN Tower! We fly out early tomorrow for Boston.... read more

Geo: 43.775, -79.4119Again a relaxed start to the day and we walked from our hotel to Goat Island to view the falls from the American side. Then we drove across the northern Lewiston Bridge back into Canada and had a very pleasant drive around the smaller roads in the Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country. It was a warm and sunny day, lovely.... read more

Geo: 43.7258, -79.4521Another grey day so we drove to a large mall and enjoyed the variety of stores. Trap for travellers - in Canada the advertised price does not include the extra 13% for GST and Provincial taxes. Plus 15-20% hospitality tipping like in the US. Canadian $ is currently exactly on par with the AUD.Saw an unusual store for a shopping centre and sat in the new Tesla SUV, called the Model X. Terrific looking and outrageous performance: 0-100 in 3 seconds. It has a touch control screen about A3 sized! Priced from $95k with the top-of-the-line, fully optioned cost a hefty $200k. All for a limited range of 465 km and needing a specialised charging point.Drove around to the Kensington District just north of the CBD which is full of funky little stores all ... read more

Geo: 43.649, -79.3718After a bit of a slow start we ventured out into the windy, grey day. We caught the subway 30 minutes to Union Station, and enquired at the tourist desk. The enthusiastic helper directed us to the historic and interesting St Lawrence Market. This is a bit like Melbourne's Victoria Market, with food from many cultures. Then we walked on to the old Distillery District as the rain showers became heavier and more annoying. We caught a streetcar (tram) back to the city and then trained it to the Royal Ontario Museum. They were showcasing an exhibition by Dale Chihuly, an American glass sculptor - colourful and impressive. We plan to visit Toronto's CN Tower, completed in 1976 and the tallest free-standing structure in the world until topped by Dubai's Burj Khalifi in 2007. It ... read more

I left my heart on the slopes of Kilimanjaro When I first got home to Canada, I hit the ground running with way too many things going on. In the last 3 weeks: I had gone for a pedicure; been to two parties; had drinks with a friend who used to live in Tanzania; visited another friend and her new baby; went to New Jersey & New York for 5 days; had a meeting with someone from the bank; and helped my parents move out of the house we lived in for the last 15 years. Needless to say, it was hectic and I was on a high that prolonged the onset of my own reaction and realization to me being here and NOT in Tanzania. Now that the dust has settled, the reverse culture shock ... read more

Geo: 43.7751, -79.412Toronto airport (code YYZ?) is dated and does not have electronic immigration devices. We waited impatiently in a slow line while others whizzed past in other queues. It was quite warm and we did not even need the jackets that we were earlier worried would not be warm enough! Our home exchange partners are Peter and Penny Wilkins. Peter picked us up at about 9pm and drove us home, some 20 minutes north of the CBD. We had a chat and a wine then P&P left us here and they went to stay with their son.We learnt a bit more about Major League Baseball. The end of the 162-game regular season is nigh. The only Canadian team - the Toronto Blue Jays, are currently coming second to the Boston Red Sox who are easily ... read more

Uns blieben zwei volle Tage in Toronto. Am ersten Tag erk... read more

Geo: 43.6485, -79.3854We are currently at 35000 ft over the Northern Atlantic somewhere south of Iceland with another 5 hours of flying time ahead of us.I hope you have enjoyed following us through Africa. This is a trip that really started before we got married. Lisa, our fabulous travel agent at Valente Travel who helped plan and book this trip knows that for our honeymoon Sharon wanted to go to Africa. It was probably a good thing that we didn't attempt that on a limited budget having done it the right way this time. The planning for this trip started over a year ago. We made a visit to Lisa to ask about what she recommended for the trip. Goway Travel specializes in Africa and it was the best move to trust them in making the plans. ... read more
