Well we have certainly covered some distance since the last entry! All the petrol we are consuming is making it very hard to stick to budget as we have been filling the van on an almost daily basis. At least petrol is cheap here. Our van was given plenty of TLC by the mechanic in Calgary and now runs like a dream. We headed out of cold wet Calgary to Medicine Hat. Along the way the weather cleared and we enjoyed a stunner of a day. We spent the night in Medicine Hat at a small RV park at a Golf Course. The weather from here on in has been fantastic if a little hot (high 20s to early 30s). We had now hit the prairies and badlands of Canada. Mile after mile of pasture and ... read more

Moving on west and north was quiet. Our Medal Bearer groups became quite small, but no less as difference makers! We found that the smaller the communites got, the more excited they were about having us. Esanola put on a fabulous dinner for us. Blind River put on a community pot luck for us! When we arrived in Sault Ste. Marie we were whisked away to the Tomie family for a yummy festive dinner with Adriana, Lary, Erin and Lary's mom and sisters. The next relay day, Erin did her 300 metre segment. She was nominated by Hank. After Sault Ste. Marie, we moved onto Wawa. Everyone was excited to get there as we had planned "Wawapalooza" in honor of Pat and Eric's birthdays. We had teams or 2 or 3 and had to create an ... read more

"Hey Noel, you coming?" It was six a.m. and I couldn't be more tired. We had gone moose hunting the night before (that is, we drove from the Thunder Bay airport to Karen's cottage at sundown) after a flight from Toronto. I summoned every bit of enthusiasm I had for my reply. Finding none, I faked it. "Yep, coming!". I bit my lip to wake myself up (god knows I wasn't getting my Grande non-fat frappuccino on this particular morning) and threw on layer after layer of t-shirt to fight the chill. The lake had a thin layer of mist and was, by my standards, quite still. "It's usually quite still" said Adam, making me feel all the more a city boy, like holding my fishing rod like a teacup wasn't enough. "But we should still ... read more

Today was the FINAL Feed My Soul Food Drive at Performance Kia in my hometown of Thunder Bay - Bruno Niederer and the staff at Kia made an amazing effort all day to bring in donations! I was back at work on my radio station at Rock 94 - Dougall Media from 6am with my co-host Mark Tannahill. Together we did our morning show until 10am. I then continued on with my mid-day show until 2pm and then did a remote from 2-6pm. 12 hours later we raised $10,040.00!!!!! and collected more than 2000 food items for the Regional Food Distribution Association! What an ending to an amazing 2 week trip! The radio remote definitely made the difference and all of Bruno's efforts! He was on the phone all day calling businesses!! Individuals stopped by and ... read more

We woke up at around noon and Shaley almost got hit by a truck zooming by the trailer. Then we set off on the road towards Thunder Bay . We drove for a while but we stopped quite a few times. This was one of the days we saw some wildlife. Mom spotted a young bull moose, and I spotted a brown bear, but we couldn’t tell if it was a grizzly. We finally reached Kakabeca Falls, and pulled off at the Happy Land (yay!) campground where we will be parking the trailer for the next couple of days. After setting up, we got to do some laundry explore the campground and finally set off to the heated pool and hot tub. The whole family spent three hours there. We had a game of handball/waterpolo where ... read more

Today we got our itinerary! We're getting verrrrry excited to leave! I am packing as we speak. I don't know how I'm going to bring what I need and still leave room for 3 other people. Eeeek. There's 3 girls and 1 guy going. I think by the end of the trip he's going to be sitting on stuff that we buy. Hmm...maybe he could be like a clothing rack!! Ya! We could hang our shopping bags on him. He could even use the stuff we bring back to the car as a pillow. Now I'm thinkin! The girls will luv this idea I'm sure! Well I better get back to figuring out how to take just what I need for 2 weeks....this is not going to be easy. I already know that most of my ... read more
