Day 21. 7952Km. Happy Summer! I can't say enough about Satellite Radio. I have Sirius. I can't imagine a trip like this without it. I suppose I'd listen to my iPod but even that would get old fast. Any channel any time. LOVE IT! The government spin doctors are at it up here. There is a Northern Roads Program in effect and everywhere there is road construction there are signs plastered up all over. The thing is, other than one patch of resurfaced road, all I've seen are bridge repairs that would have had to be done anyway. I imagine some political propaganda announcement where they promised the people of the North that the government was going to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into northern roads and everyone cheered. My friend Caroline came from Quebec ... read more

Our first ride from Blumenort to Steinbach was given by an 80-year old man in a mini-van. Not sure exactly what motivated him to pick us up, but he was en route to his sons' farm, where he was still working. He told us about how much of a pleasure it was for him to keep working on the farm at his age. We walked about an hour from the Blumenort corner past Friesen Drillers and quite a distance further, and eventually got picked up by a guy in a truck, who was headed towards Anola to take a look at some horses. I found it humorous that he asked us before we got in "are you guys safe?" Like we would have said "no" and left if we weren't and wanted to score his cash. ... read more

Hello Fam. So the last 36 hours have been insane. Part I So the flight from Detroit to Toronto was delayed for well over an hour and when we got to Tor, we had to go through customs and security, so we missed our flight by about 30 minutes. After we missed our flight in Toronto Sunday,( around 1:35). We got on Standby for a a flight at 4:55, and 7 and 9 I was with one other guy from the show, Stoner (Matt Stoner). So, Stoner, and I ate and then went to the gate. I checked my email and posted that last blog and then almost as soon as I was done, they announced that all flights to Thunder Bay by Air Canada were cancelled for the night, because of weather. So we went ... read more

Camping Grandma and I find ourselves back in Thunder Bay for another summer. Our winter was very nice in South Padre Island Texas, but kind of empty without our grandkids being allowed to see talk or visit with us by their cruel parents. As you all know grandparents have no right in Ontario to see talk or visit with their grandchildren and if they do so without permission risk being arrested and or jailed. But our life goes on and we continue to explore Canada and North America in our little 23 foot RV while spending the summers on Lake of the Woods, near Kenora, Ontario, Canada on our livaboard boat. With over 65000 miles of shoreline and over 14,500 charted islands the possibilitys are limitless. We will be uploading pictures of the Lake this ... read more

Day 4 Woke up in our shady motel - which we later found out is probably one of the worst, if not the worst places to stay (full of hookers and other questionable characters) and went to Hoito (a famous finnish landmark restaurant) for a hearty saturday breakfast. I had these amazing thin pancakes and poached eggs, while my hubby had french toast and sausage. It was truly a fantastic breakfast and we felt like we were in scandinavia for a brief moment. It was definitely the place for a weekend breakfast as the line was out the door all morning. Apparently Thunder Bay has a huge finnish population because so many "bushworkers" came over from finland in the early 1900's. Many people around town have blonde hair and blue eyes... Hoito started as a co-op ... read more

Hi Folks, Taking a rest day in Thunder Bay. I've been riding for several days now with a couple from Frankfurt Germany. They rode from Frankfurt to Amsterdam and then took a container ship to Montreal! We're currently staying in a Hostel (reminds me of my college days) in Thunder Bay. He's pulling a trailer and they are definitley going for comfort including having a lap top with them! They took a 1 year leave of absence from work and are planning on heading to Asia when they get to Vancouver. Tomorrow I'll be heading west and a visit to Kankabeka Falls and they're thinking of swinging into the US for a few days. The cold and rain continues and as a result the black flies are relentless!!! Yesterday we stopped in Eagle Canyon to hike ... read more
