Salty Bear begins Nova Scotia, PEI Little New Brunswick. I had an 8:30AM start this morning meeting up with the Salty Bear tour company. It took about a half hour to get everything sorted out and soon enough we were off and running. The beginning of the tour was mainly driving on the highway, so it was not all that exciting. It did give us a bit of a chance to get to know one another a little bit better and we also got a bit of a run down from Carman, our tour guide/driver. Back in Canada Tim Horton's, Ice Hockey, Toques Canadiana. Since my sleep schedule has been put off the last two days in the sense that I’ve gone to bed after 3AM, I thought I might as well stay up instead of going to sleep before my flight to Halifax. Departure time for Toronto is at 6:20, so that meant having to leave for the airport just before 4AM. Yowzers! Thank goodness I was chatting with Lainie til about 3AM...that really helped me to stay awake. It's a great thing that Anita will be able to bring some of my stuff back to Vancouver when she visits next. Therefore I have been able to keep my checked in backpack less than 30lbs (I think that's about 13.5kg.) which is great! If only I could have travelled that ... read more

While killing a little bit of time waiting for our gracious hosts, Trevor and Nancy, to collect us from the bus station, we ventured into the Halifax Maritime Museum on the harbour front. Ordinarily this kind of thing doesn't really float our boats (ah ha ha) but it was actually a very interesting museum. There were a number of interesting exhibits on things such as the Titanic, the Halifax Explosion, and solo sailing around the globe. That first night Trev and Nancy's dog, Bow, decided that Nic's smelly thongs (and that's the Australian version of thongs) would make a tasty treat so we spent the next day touring Halifax's shops in order to find a replacement pair. Once again, thanks to everyone who wrote a quick comment on my Winnipeg story. Writing back always takes time -- so I appreciate your messages, and I hope you keep replying. As the comments pile up on the "blog," we seem to be starting our own little 'discussion' group for family and friends. I think it's neat! Toronto was surreal, but beautiful nonetheless! For those who are expecting an account of smog and awful smells, you will be disappointed. The train gently rocked through a dense ravine on its way to Union station. It was like sliding through a rain forest, only there would be the odd apartment complex that would rise out of the foliage.
