I awoke to the soft glow of the sun filtering through the curtains of our bedroom window. Tim was still sleeping so I tiptoed outside to watch the sun rise. Its glorious splendour was reflected in the calm waters of the inlet below our balcony. It was a good morning to be alive. By choosing to stay at the B&B in Charlos on the southeastern shore of Nova Scotia last night, it made more sense this morning to take the scenic route to Halifax as I had steered us too far away from the high-speed highway. That suited us fine as our philosophy is always to choose the pretty route over the fast route. We stopped to get directions from a lady who was walking her dog alongside the road. She had no idea how to ... read more

Geo: 44.6462, -63.5739 Written in late April (because I am a fantastic procrastinator):Spring is finally springing, slowly day by day I watch the ice melting in the cove outside our house. Since returning home, Jim and I have felt overwhelmed with family deaths and moves, we've had an endless flu, all the while Jim has been working really hard and now I am recovering from foot surgery. Ohhhh, vacation where are you? It's time to complete my writing about our trip to Maui in February before summer is here! What is it like travelling for 28 days with another couple? It's not a question Jim and I could have answered prior to this trip as we rarely travel with others. And when we do, it's typically someone we meet on our travels or a friend with ... read more

Geo: 44.6462, -63.5739Hi all! You signed up to Jim and Donna's travel blog when we were on our big adventure in 2012-2013. We don't want to assume you are interested in all our travels so we are checking in with you. After having escaped winter for that 2012-2013 year, Jim especially is finding winters difficult here in Nova Scotia, Canada. When I say difficult, I mean he whinges regularly and wants nothing to do with shovelling or loading up the wood stove ever again! I like the changing seasons, however, the length of our seasons here are completely upside down. Who wants the long, cold winters that go on forever with temperatures resembling a bouncy ball gone wild? And then, as the promise of spring begins to break we creep into a time enveloped in grey, wet, ... read more

Montreal enroute to Halifax Nova Scotia It’s a cold and overcast start to the day in Quebec City. After some breakfast at the hostel (which is pretty filling), we walk down to the coach station & the wind is blustering which makes it feel even cooler especially if all you have on is a T Shirt. As the walk is all downhill we do it in good time and after a short wait board the Orleans Express Bus to Montreal. We actually leave a few minutes early and the coach is pretty full, has fancy reclining leather chairs, charging points and free Wi-Fi (which helps us stay in touch with home & do some research on the New England & NYC trips to come). The journey is pretty smooth and in 3 hours we are in ... read more

We have our RV parked here in Cap-Pele, New Brunswick. We take day trips in our cars. We brought our truck and Glen and Glenda brought their car. Yesterday we took a trip to Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia has around 900,000 people. Its capital is Halifax. We traveled along the southern coast to Peggy's Cove which is about 30 miles from Halifax. Beautiful drive. Peggy's Cove is a small settlement. According to legend, the name Peggy's Cove came when a ship was wrecked on rocks near the lighthouse. Everyone was lost except a woman who managed to swim ashore and was rescued. Her name was Margaret. Another version of the story of the name is that Peggy's Cove is situated at the entrance to St. Margaret's Bay. So the name Margaret's Cove was shortened to Peggy's ... read more

I awoke without any artificial stimulus prior to 6:00 AM and rose to do some work on the blog. I went up to the Lido Deck to work out in the gym at 7:00 AM, expecting it to be empty after the time change; but, it already had nearly ten people working out on the cycles, treadmills, weights and machines. Halifax was just the slightest shiny sliver on the horizon. After working out on the treadmill, and doing some arms and legs on the machines that HAL does have, it was time to get cleaned up for breakfast. Breakfast service in the Dining Room lasted until 9:30 AM this morning, and we were just arriving at our berth in Halifax as we went up for breakfast. They asked us if we’d mind sharing a table with ... read more

I set my phone to wake us at 5:30 AM; but, must have left with roaming on and somehow it decided the actual time was an hour ahead of what it was. When I got out of bed at what I thought was 6:00 AM and planned to head for the gym, I realized what happened. Instead of going back to bed, I finished yesterday’s blog before going up to work out in the gym, concentrating on legs today. When that was done, Sharon and I went up to the Lido for breakfast. We had an early tour that needed to be ashore at 9:15 AM. I had a couple of bowls of Muesli and Sharon had some French Toast. Afterwards, we checked out the menu for the Dining Room, where it is the second “Formal ... read more

Traveling is a brutality Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things - air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it" - Cesare Pavese Traveling is something that changes you, it is hard to figure out what about you has changed but you don't quite fit into your own surroundings the way you once did. Traveling is something that sometimes makes you feel balanced some of the time and very off balance the rest of the time. The purpose of this blog will be to put all the entries from my travels in Africa and Europe all ... read more

Monday:A hazy day welcomed us in Halifax. The City is set up for cruise ships with well signed historic trails that offered the weary walker ample places to linger and read informative plaques. We took in the seafront before turning inland and venturing off-piste. Shock, horror, we stumbled across Anne's Cafe that offered damned strong coffee. Fortified, we climbed up to the Citadel, strolled through a delightful park and ambled back through the city. As ever, www access on-board is tres expensive and so we took advantage of the free wi-fi in a so-called farmer's market to scan our emails. Entertainment in the evening was again good consisting of a comedian, Cynthia MacLeod Trio (folk) and a pretty laid back Jazz sextet. The excitement was not quite over - a rather choppy sea made for an ... read more
