Hey, It's me, Cary! I'm going to try and keep a running journal of my travels as I, and my beautiful, super awesome girlfriend Jenn, travel around south-east Asia. Apologies if my poor grammar and spelling, and my rambling stream of conciousness writing style make this hard to read. If you really care, you'll tough it out, if not i'll tell you all about it when i get home. We're leaving tuesday morning, headed for Vancouver, from there we fly across the pacific to Seoul, South Korea, and from there to Bangkok, Thailand. This is not only my first international trip (other than a couple short jaunts into the states) but my first time flying on an airplane. I must admit i'm a little nervous, but I'm sure I'll get over it. This is truly going ... read more

Hello again! I couldn't fit all the pics in the last blog. We have since made it to Winnipeg. We did the celebration here last nite which was fantastic. Thousands of people showed up to see the flame! It was our artist Jessica's last day with us so we all joined her on stage at the end of her performance. Quite the experience being up there looking out at all those people! Jessica was touched. Tears started to flow. We will miss her. For all you country music fans, Doc Walker performed on stage. Winnipeg is their home town. They were great! After the show we went to a party hosted by RBC. Got to see alot of people we haven't seen for a while. A good time was had by all. We are enjoying a ... read more

Ontario is freakin' huge. What a difference a day makes. First of all, we actually got to sleep in today. What a relief that was since each of the two previous nights I only got a few hours. Combine that with the marathon drive to T-Bay the day before and I was dead tired. Sleeping in 'til 9 was a fantastic fix for that. As we hit the road the sun came out, melting the ice patches which formed on the truck the previous night. Thunder Bay didn't get hit as hard with the bad weather as did the Wawa area. Come morning we were the only ones it seemed who had evidence of driving through the bad bits. Today was a perfect day for travel - sunny and about 7 or 8 degrees without a ... read more

A guy who was staying at the hostel gave me a lift to Edmonton, which is the capital of Alberta. I spent the weekend here, went to the cinema a couple of times, and attended a concert by virtuoso classical guitarist Remi Boucher, which was pretty amazing. But was aware that I could go to the cinema at home, and wasn't really justifying the trip. This sense of becoming slightly directionless and 'losing my way' became more pronounced as I ventured further east into the prairies. I spent a day in Saskatoon, mostly in an art gallery/museum, since it was free. And warm. I had written to a scientific research centre in Churchill to see about volunteering there, but apparently the work was basically washing dishes for 36 hours a week, so I decided to give ... read more

Having arrived from Stockholm on Friday evening I thought I had plenty of time to organise myself for my long-awaited holiday. Not so. I turned up at the Heythorp Street Hotel late on Friday evening, where Sarah had very kindly agreed to put me up at short notice. We spent several hours gossiping before I headed to my own spare room for a kip - a strange feeling but a very comfy bed Saturday was spent rather pleasantly with brunch on the South Bank with Emma, Rosie, Steve, Nat and several thousand children, followed by a desperately needed pampering at the hands of Heath the hairdresser, “T.com on a Saturday” drinks in Covent Garden with the usual suspects (plus a 10-week old first appearance by Ewan who was extremely laid back about the whole thing) and ... read more

We got to Winnipeg late LOL As usual. We drove around looking for a motel, as usual lol. We ended up finding The Capri. We had to pay $ 50 deposit because it's a weekly, monthly place and we were only staying 2 days. Nat had a wonderful time visiting family. I found a resturant that served a buffet for lunch, Aalto, it had excellent salads and fruit. So I had soup and salad, with lots of fruit. Nat left early and came back to drive me to a much needed laundry mat!! lol I had to dig out my cleanest dirty pants LOL Lots of shirts, underwear. LOL Man what it hot that day. Then Nat told me about a resturant that is only in Winnipeg. It's called The Salsbury House. So we went there ... read more

Day 57. 15,828Km. Unless something exciting happens to me along the way I think the next few entries will be fairly boring since I'm just chugging home on flat land. I got up about 0930hrs and skipped breakfast other than a couple granola bars while I was packing up. I feel like I left summer back in Medicine Hat because the last couple days have been in the low 20's and last I looked it's no better at home. I only had one window down two to three inches while driving or it was too cold. I ended up stopping in Moosomin, SK for some lunch. A personal pizza from Pizza Hut. Thick and greasy just like the big ones. Under normal conditions I want my food as soon as it's ready because most things just ... read more
