Day 3 The plan was to cross the border into Canada then catch the ferry on foot to Victoria. Unfortunately we had stopped early to finally catch up on much needed sleep so ran very late. Kids were disappointed but we told them we'd find something fun to do. Crossing the border was so easy this time. We had affidavits for each kid and Twinkies papers all in order. There was no line at all so we drove right up to the customs agent. She looked at our passports, asked the usual questions and sent us on our way. We drove thru Vancouver finding nothing to do plus no parking for the RV and 5th wheel. Then we happened on Stanley park and remembered going there in 1984, returning from the Olympics. We got off, and ... read more

Ok, well I'm here in Vancouver staying in a very nice hotel on the 27th floor with a nice view of the city straight ahead from me and if I look to my left, I have a view of the mountians which still have some snow on them, so I think I picked a good hotel. So after leaving Dee, Amy and Carly at the airport and after crying yet again, I boarded my plane and sat down between 2 girls, Jaimie, from Kansas and Amanda, from Chicago who was traveling with her husband Josh who is Australian. After about 8 hours one of the air hostess' asked if one of us could swap with an elderly lady as her leg was cramping up and as we had extra leg room, she asked us. So me ... read more

Stanley Park Located on the North side of Downtown Vancouver with 404.9 hectares: It is more than 10% larger than New York City's Central Park. It has a 8.8 km (5.5 mi) seawall path that circles the park. Much of the park remains forested with an estimated half million trees that can be as tall as 76 m (250 ft) and hundreds of years old. There are approximately 200 km (120 mi) of trails and roads in the park. We entered the Park from Beach Av. and followed the seawall to the third beach where we cut across to the west side of the park taking Tatlow Trail to Squirrel Trail to Beaver Lake to Ravine Trail which brought us to the East side of the park where we photographed the Lost Lagoon, Downtown Vancouver, ... read more

Today, our last day in Vancouver, was a warm, sunny Sunday. We picnicked with Ally then spent the afternoon wandering around Stanley park capturing all the beautiful autumn colours as the sunset over the city. Last night was halloween so we followed tradition and carved some pumpkins, dressed up in gory outfits and bought the biggest, baddest box of fireworks we could find. The city was screaming with fireworks going off in every street, fire-truck sirens in the background and the wafting smell of gunpowder. It was a warm night so we had a few drinks, Anna (Ally's housemate) cooked us all a feast, we ate candy and sat out on the front porch because it was such an unusually warm evening. Fireworks are excellent, we lit the fuse then bolted... and survived. We both agree ... read more

"So this is their summer?" remarks a lady wearing a black, bubble winter coat as she zooms by on her bike. Yes, the temperatures have dropped further down today. It's almost comical to look at the 14 day forecast where upon my arrival the temperature slowly drops and upon my departure it starts to rise again well into the 30s. Well that's ok no rain or overcast is going to stop me from exploring. I mean it rains here all the time and there still hasn't been one day of rain, just overcast skies, so I guess I'm lucky. There are a lot of tourists in town it seems. Vancouver is host to the Police and Fire Games this year and over 10, 000 firefighters and police officers from a round the world are in ... read more

I can hardly believe how quick six months have gone by. It's only a couple of days now until i fly back to Heathrow. It's pretty scary thinking about going back, facing reality and getting back into the real world. :( It's also exciting to know i'll see everyone again and i have the prospect of all the new things that will be in my life. Anyway, enough about coming back as i've had loads of great experiences since i last wrote. I was in Vancouver last time and then spent a few days in Whistler in a log cabin/hostel with a great hot tub and a very chilled out vibe. Instead of all the white knuckle activities i'd intended to do i took a few days exploring whistler town and doing very little else. I ... read more

Hi, I'm finally in the last continent i'll travel to and have only three weeks of adventure time left. It's pretty scary to think i need to get back to real life soon. When i last wrote i was in San Francisco and i finally tore myself away from there and got the overnight bus down to Las Vegas. It was a pretty awesome place. I was surprised at how cheap the hotels were there, it was cheaper than a hostel at 17 dollars per night for my own double room with a huge bed. So for the first time in a long time i had my own room and bathroom and all for less than i'd been paying for a hostel elsewhere. I spent the days by the pool and the evenings exploring the strip ... read more
