To start where we last left off: We went to the drive in and lucky for us it was tight ass Tuesday and we managed to save a couple of $. We actually considered me jumping in the back and hiding myself to save more money but decided that it looked quite desperate and lonely going to the drive ins yourself and Zach didn’t want to “be that guy”. We had also managed to sneak in some snacks as you just know a bucket of popcorn is going to be like $15 at these places and the “strictly no outside food or drinks” sign was swiftly ignored. So anyways we rock up to our conveniently chosen spot - not too far out the back - cos you just know whats going on in those cars. And ... read more

Molly sets her tee up on the 15th green. Above, black crows and seagulls and eagles swoop in and out of view between tall pines. The smell of lilacs and sea and cut grass wafts on the air, the breeze a forgiving pace and temperate compared to the harsh winds off the Pacific on Manly beach only a week ago. The sun is warm on my shoulders, and even the clouds seem complacent to shift and dissipate on the affable blue canopy. Framing the sky, the Rockies sink slowly into azure as the day nears dusk. My heart is quiet and still, set on listening to the sound of bees in the rododendrums. Something seems familiar about this setting, something beyond the fact that it belongs to a country I grew up in - the place ... read more

Good thing we went to Whistler already yesterday. We had a downpour in the morning and I decided to wait it out in the hotel. Starbucks in the morning was a necessity though and I was so glad that Starbucks was located inside the hotel lobby. There was no need to walk outside and get soaked. When the big storm finally passed, I went to pick up my sister and my niece, Priscilla, again. I had the responsibility of taking everyone to the graduation ceremony the next morning and I would like to familiarize myself with the route. After all, I was not traveling with a GPS. Again, Priscilla was my guide and we traveled west on W. 10th Avenue that eventually turned into University Blvd.. Once we entered past the gate for University of British ... read more

the drive from seattle to vancouver was really only supposed to take about 2 hours but for some reason it ended up taking about 6. its really difficult traveling with someone else and trying to coordinate schedules when youve already had a routine. we were told that before we made it to canada we had to buy some duty free liquour. we made about 6 stops then were over it, we ended up buying some booze across the border, bad, expensive decision. we arrived at tom and monicas around 7, we unwinded and had a few drinks, home brew style. since all the booze in ca is so expensive, a lot of people go to these places where they can brew there own beers and wines, for way cheap. you get to chooze grapes for the ... read more

Thanks eveyone for the comments and messages. Well, we spent our first day in Vancouver at Capilano suspension bridge and Stanley Park. The world famous Capilano suspension bridge was built by a Scotsman in the 1800's and has been replaced a few times since then and has a very colorful history. There are pictures of tourists travelling to the bridge in the 1910's. There were also boardwalks amongst the tree tops and lots of things to learn about the local environment. we then spent 4 hours walking through stanley Park - a fantastic open space natural wonderland right amonst the city. A freak storm hit Vancouver in November 2006 so there is lots of fallen trees. Spent the night at the street party and booking car hire and accommodation for LA. We will try and see ... read more

Hi everyone I have arrived safely in Vancouver and Danielle picked me up from the airport last night. The flights were fine from Aspen= Denver and then onto Vancouver. Vancouver airport was a mess, I have no idea how they plan to host an Olympics one year from now. It's been raining since we arrived and there is snow on the side of the roads. We stayed at a nice hotel in downtown Vancouver last night. This morning we leave for Whistler. Apparently the roads are really bad at the moment so it may be a long drive. None of my cellphones work here but I have internet access most places we plan to go I think. We leave Whistler on Friday and then catch the ferry over onto Vancouver Island ... read more

Can't believe its been one day away from a hundred that i've been doin this trip for - already?! Back in van city now and feelin the "greyhound thru the night"ness somewhat: its like half eight and i'm trying desperately to put off going to bed so i sleep thru... yeah, ok grandma! Had a pretty eventful "wasted travel day" as, just for a change, i may have erred slightly on the estimated times of arrival and departure for the buses (i will truly be astounded if i manage to get right round the world without missing some major transport form or something...) and rather than it being i leave at midnight an get in at 8pm, it was i leave at 8pm and get in at 8am. Not much difference, then... Did manage to make ... read more

DAY 2 Well it seems like I'm not the only one who can get lost, Charlies 6 miler turned into 9 after getting lost in Stanley Park and stumbling upon 4 raccoons, luckily she realised they could be dangerous when they got within a foot or so. Once we were finally reunited we jumped on the Vancouver Trolley tours bus and headed for Granville Island which included a 2 minute ferry (10 people max)! Granville Island had the most amazing set of markets, with the food Market being an eye opener, grabbed some Candied Salmon & Salmon Jerky! Lunched there and had Salmon (yes, more Salmon) sushi in Teriyaki batter and some seaweed w/sesame seeds, fantastic! In the afternoon we then headed for Chinatown and Dr Sun Yat-Sen's Classical Chinese garden. Early evening spent in Gastown ... read more

Day 1 of 84 We had a fairly uneventful flight and public bus transfer to our hostel in Downtown Vancouver! I'm referring to our hostel as "Jungle Book" as it seems to have the "bear necessities", but for £40 for a double ensuite it's perfect! The biggest surprise of the day was that Charlies bag weighed less than mine! We managed to go for a pleasant walk along Beach Avenue and found a really good place to eat. "The Fish House" is the best of both worlds Posh & Cheap! £50 total for 3 courses, though think we were somewhat under dressed! I think jetlag got the better of us both as the infamous "Pike" shortcut got us lost, when will Charlie learn! I'll sign off now as Charlie should be returning from an early morning ... read more
