Its just gone 6 am and we had to get up early to vacate the room by 8am. We took all our bags and headed for breakfast. We needed to then wait in the theater to be called out by our number and colour. We were purple 14. We were supposed to be called out at about 9.20am but only got called out at 10am. We then made our way to the Canadian border. This took a while... Finally getting passed the border we went to pick up our bags and made our wait out to get a taxi. Obviously we had to wait for that too lol. There were about 2000 people bording off. We got our taxi back to the Rosedale on Robson Hotel. We were releaved to find out that our room was ... read more

Another great YVR layover. I decided to walk the seawall this time instead of renting a bike. I got up this morning and after a few cups of coffee and some fruit. I dressed and headed out for the walk. The weather was fantastic, the sky was mostly clear and the it was cool and dry. What a contrast to a few days ago in Cancun where it was 96 degrees and 100% humidity. After the walk I met up w/ my First Officer, Brett Gaylord, and we took the "Aquabus" over to Granville Island for lunch. We ate at the Sand Bar, a first for me, and it was very good. Nice atmosphere but a little on the pricey side. Off to bed to get rest for the red-eye back to EWR.... read more

After spending an afternoon recovering from our evening with the crazy Fijians, we woke bright and fresh and ready to explore the city. Vancouver is located on a small peninsula and set against a backdrop of a 4000 - 5000 foot high mountain range (which still had snow on it even though we were getting 30 degree days in the city - what sort of crazy place is this?). Vancouver is surrounded on three sides by water, so this lack of space has forced development of the city to grow up rather than out. Subsequently the downtown area is full a high rise buildings, although none are particularly large. The first thing that strikes you when driving into the city is how 'futuristic' it looks. The majority of the high rise buildings are very architecturally modern, ... read more

So this adventure continues! Manish and I are heading off to London to visit with his famliy before heading to Italy for a week. After we return to London, I fly to India to complete my advanced teacher training at Yoga Vidya Dham, and Manish flys back to Vancouver for 5 weeks with out me. It will have been 1 year and 4 months since I left the ahsram. I have had a little over a year of experience teaching 5 - 7 classes per week, and eager to expand my knowledge and do all I can to leave my ego at the door. The last trip was a trip of a lifetime, so I can only imagine how this one will be. I think the first trip was just scratching the surface of what yoga ... read more

After a series of phone calls from Ruth began to narrow down the likely Olympia rendezvous day to Sunday evening, Judy was sure that her hostess friend's patience was on the verge of evaporation. Having come armed with her border-crossing paraphernalia, she hopped a bus up to Vancouver for a quick return to her Home and Native Land and a visit with Vicky Yehl, a diamond geologist of some renown. After arriving and lunching at the Vancouver waterfront, the ladies walked a few miles along the Vancouver Seawall, one of Judy's traditional Rites of Return, and enjoyed floatplane after floatplane coming into the harbour as they watched giant cruise ships depart and families frolic on the beach. Families of racoons were out noshing, seven swans a-swimming, and a glorious sun a-setting over the Lost Lagoon. Judy ... read more

Hot, hot, hot...... 32c We had a full day in Vancouver today, it was a short drive over the Lion Bridge from our hotel in Nth Vancouver to Stanley Park. Which is situated in the city area. We purchased a "hop on, hop off" ticket for the trolley tram. We became real tourists for the day, we enjoyed the city, finding it spacious with lovely colourful gardens around every corner. We managed to do a lot of walking.... especially through the wooded area and waters edge of Stanley park and the city streets....16,500 steps.... Geoff says that's about 13ks !!! Pretty good hey ! We added 2 more species to our wildlife list today, both found in the old growth forest in Stanley Park..... A racoon and a black squirrel. The racoon was too fast for ... read more

We have been in Vancouver since 11 May, it is a really lovely city with huge high rises, beautiful ocean. We have enjoyed visiting Stanley Park, Capalino Bridge and Grouse Mountain. On our first day we went on the big red bus, hop on hop off. Went to Granville Island Market, great fresh fruit and veges - must go back there when we get off the cruise so we can be self sufficient and not have to eat out. We then walked down Robson Street (main shopping street) then down to Gas Town (named after a publican that talked a lot (Gassie). We had dinner at Spagetti's big pasta meal, we were hungry as we hadnt had lunch - made our breakfast last the day. On Tuesday we went on a tour to Grouse Mountain - ... read more

Decided we would try a cheap breakfast, so we opted for the Denny's across the street from our hotel. Well obviously, cheap doesn't apply to food here. The prices were almost double of what we pay in Pennsylvania! lol I ATTEMPTED to order the "Salsa Denny" without tomatoes and the Asian waiter said to me a couple of times, "There's no meat on it" I was like "OK, that's fine. I know that". (there was no meat on it in the first place) He kept giving me weird looks about eating it like that. Finally I said, "I'll take the "breakfast grand slam instead". He seemed to be pleased with that choice!?! Then he also tried to order me pancakes instead of beacon, which made absolutely no sense to me, since it seemed he wanted me ... read more

Stanley Park: it is named after Lord Stanley and is the 3rd largest city owned park in North America. There were only 2 bus stops in Stanley Park with one being at the entrance and the other in the middle of the 1,000 acre park by the aquarium. Bernie thought we should get off at the entrance but I thought it would be better to be dropped off at the 2nd one. Boy was I wrong! What our original plan was to only walk about 1/4 of the 5.5 mile sea wall on the east side only; so we would be closer if we decided to walk back, instead of using the bus. Upon asking the bus driver how to go about this, he told us to follow this one road which was a main road ... read more
