Ahhhh...lazy days. Sometimes they are just what a body needs. Looking over my last few entries, I have come to the conclusion that they are actually pretty boring. So I am going to try my hardest to make this one witty and amusing and just about the best damn blog you've ever read. I'm a little worried thouh, because I might just find out that in reality I am not that witty of a person, like I like to think of myself as. Let me start out by saying that I think Jeannie might just be loving this trip mainly for the fact that I have had no voice the whole time. She is loving this larangitis (sp?) thing. The only drawback is that it comes with furious fits of coughing spells that last about3 minutes ... read more

So the countdown has begun. It’s now exactly one week until I fly out of Vancouver for China, and it’s beginning to feel like this trip might actually happen. Before, the trip had been so far off on the horizon that it didn’t really sink in that I was actually going to China. Now, however, it feels a little more real and I’m starting to get excited. I’m sure everyone that has done a bit of travelling can relate. The other thing that contributed to this realization was finishing work. I worked what looks to be my final shift last night, and am now focused on my trip for the rest of the summer. It’s a little odd to not be working at all, but I’m sure it’s something that I’ll be able to get ... read more

So after a very long 11 hour trip we made it to Tofino, BC. It was a great travel day, considering. The weather was good, the company was fine, and the truck didn't break down. Not that I was expecting it to, but it was nice that it didn't. The Ferry God was smiling upon us, as not only did we make it in time for the 1230 ferry, but there was even space available! Got to Tofino at 6:00, just in time to set up camp and then enjoy the sunset on Mackenzie Beach. I am very impressed with the campsite, Crystal Grove Resorts. The tent sites are nice and private, and kept totally seperate from the RVs and cabins. It's a 30 second walk to the beach, which is white sanded and stunning. Ty ... read more

Here's to another beautiful day in paradise. We woke up this morning to a very thick fog (how Tofinoesque!) and a blanket of mist. It was the thickest mist I have ever seen. It felt like waling through a cloud. It was a little bizarre, as everything was quite wet, but no real rain. That cleared up pretty quickly though, and although it's still cloudy and foggy, it's also very warm. I love what the humidity does to my hair and skin! It's almost worth putting up with the clouds. Jeannie and I woke up late, and had to rush to get ready for the big race on time. It was the quickest we got ready since Jeannie got to my place. I think I will add here that it is a truly different experience travelling ... read more

3... 2... 1... BUNGY!!!!!!!!!!!! It had been a while since the sun shone in Vancouver. So today was a perfect day to do something crazy. I left Vancouver 2 days ago, taking a 1.5 hr ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay travelling west to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island where my buddy Brenna lives. Since Ari was back in Sydney for his brother's wedding, I figured I'd invite myself over and see the island for the first time. The "something crazy" thing I had in mind was, of course, bungy jumping. The location: Bungyzone - North America's first legal bungy bridge above Nanaimo River. Doing this would complete the skydive/bungy jump double, and another item crossed off on my things-to-do-before-i-die list. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. I did delay the jump however - Brenna ... read more

I fly out tonight at 7pm to get in to Belize tomorrow morning then a few taxi rides, buses and boats and I will get to my desired destination. Of course if I miss a bus or boat or anything happend like a fly lands on the winshield of the bus and slows it down with the added weight, I will have to make new plans. Plans - humph - meant to be broken, right? Well either way it will be a marathon of the ole 'hurry up and wait'. So why hurry? Good question. I will need to find my pace in the next few days and chill out a bit. Like the difference in pace between Vancouver and Pender island. The whole country of Belize has a population of around 250,000. That's like the ... read more

Hello, Here is the first memo in this travel diary. Today is P Day! (pack day) So the suitcases are out, the clothes are chosen and whatever else is getting tossed about. Yesterday, Adele and I went to Packables,a store, and we learned how to leave behind much of the miscellaneous and just in case I never do laundry or in case I maybe need this or that stuff. We were amazed at the shrinkage in our 'amount to bring'. So...we bought another suitcase to keep all of little pile of stuff in. Yes, this is getting close to goodbye now. Bye.... read more

The night chugged slowly for me as I didn’t sleep well (although Gail said she slept well), heard the ship dock at some place to unload passengers and supplies at a tiny port in the passage, then at 3:30 am we hit open water and the bucking of the ship started in earnest. Luckily though I didn’t feel nauseous this time. It was reassuring to reach the open waters though as the chances of us running into rocky ground were much slimmer! Even so, just in case of emergency, our clothes and shoes were strategically placed and ready to be donned should the emergency whistle blow. At 6:30 the alarm went off and up we got. There was a nice big shower in our room, but after Gail had finished she warned me the water could ... read more

Motorhome News from North America 10 21st April - 1st May 2006 Farewell Stars and Stripes We set out with Ralph, our intrepid guide, in bright sunshine, along the Ocean Shores peninsula at Grays Harbour, binoculars and scope at the ready, searching for snowy owls reported to have been seen the previous day on driftwood along the shoreline. As is often the case, we were unsuccessful, but we were rewarded with fabulous birding (56 species) at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge a day or two later. It was good to be in the company of an enthusiast with local knowledge and there were many moments of great excitement: our first hooded merganser, a beautiful common yellow-throat, a huge flock of Brants geese and a spectacular horned grebe in mating plumage. Winnie took a well deserved rest for ... read more
