I'm leaving in oh about... 12 hours from now. I still have to pack. Well that's a lie, I have some packing done. But I still have a lot to do. It's been a trying last two weeks. There was some unexpected trouble with my Z visa when the office called and told us it was declined because we were missing the form that we were told wasn't needed. After a couple of days of frustration and making alternate arrangements, we received my visa in the mail. Psh. The get together last week was great, I'm so glad that everyone could come out. Thank you everyone!!! I'm going to miss you all so much... I leave tomorrow morning at 7:25 AM, arrive in Van at 8:35 AM. Leave Van at 1:00 PM, arrive in Beijing at ... read more

It all started out with lists and lists of things to do. - Find a job (there's enough involved just in that!) - Research! Research! Research! Once I dedided on China, there were more lists. - Appointments - Immunizations (Hep A, Oral Typhoid, etc.) - Get the anti-malarial drugs - Quit the bakery - Buy all of the shit I need (and that's a lot.) - Apply for Chinese Z Visa. - Book a ticket - Heath Insurance - Millions of other errands. For those of you who know me, you'll know how often I re-wrote and re-thought those lists. I still am. So, for the moment.. all of the appointments are taken care of, I have all of the meds I need (Aka Cloroquine), I've given my notice at work (last day is Saturday!), I've ... read more

Finally got kicked off the mountain after a month of boarding, shovelling snow, making bed and drinking beer and hot chocolate. All was a blast and met some awesome crazy people (too many aussies). Stuffed up my knee in the last week skiing so limited the boarding. God damn skiing. On with the next adventure.... read more

Well, the season here at Big White is over. For about 5 weeks in the middle there we had hardly any fresh snow fall and we watched as our base slowly shrank and rocks started appearing on runs. But then about halfway through March winter returned and we had a great end to the season. It’s a bit frustrating at the moment as we’re still getting fresh snow fall but we can’t go out riding on it. It’s all a bit sad that the season’s over, but there is a lot happening over the next few weeks, so it’s good to look forward to it all. Most of the time up here is spent either working or riding, so I’ll write about some of the different things that we have been doing. Last week a bunch ... read more

Made it to Big White. Snow is looking awesome to me who hasn't seen it in years but to the boarders it's pretty tragic. However it did snow this afternoon. I'm in pain with bruises everywhere. All good fun. All extreme. All good.... read more

Right now I'm at Big White Ski Resort in BC, Canada. I was lucky enough to get a job here in Central Reservations, where we book accommodation for people coming up here. I get to go riding most days and get paid better than most jobs up here, so I'm pretty happy with it all. There are so many Australians here at the resort, it sometimes feels like I haven't even left home. I've found a really nice apartment with 2 other Aussies and a Brit, so home life is pretty good as well. We even have an outdoor hot tub, I can't wait to use it while it's dumping snow. The season ends here around 10 April, so I'll be hanging around until at least then. After that, I haven't worked out yet, but we'll ... read more

Today I had my first quiet moment alone with the Rockies and a rising sun. But I'm starting at the end of the story, I have to backtrack four days to the beginning. At the last moment, Monday night, Bryce - a housemate from the Crown House - decided to hitch a ride with me from Vancouver to Kelowna. This was great but limiting in the sense that I would have to only bring with me what could fit on the bike at the same time as two gerth-y guys. So forget the towel. Hell, there's no room anymore for those extra socks. And there sure isn't space for sandals. This was going to be bare bones, even for my standards. So, after one last night drinking whiskey on the beach with Stephan (a good good ... read more
