We arrived in Abu Dhabi at 4am on the 22nd after a 12 hour flight from Tokyo and headed straight to our hotel. I had surprised Matt with a really nice hotel for an engagement gift - staying at Jumeirah in the Etihad towers, opposite the Emirates Palace. When I was booking they asked if the holiday was for something special and I had told them it was for our recent engagement, which worked out really well because when we arrived we found out we were upgraded to the Grand deluxe room on the 36th floor. Our room was absolutely stunning, like nowhere we have ever stayed - it looked out to the city and to the ocean, and because we got there so early we were able to watch the sunrise which was beautiful. Hello from Abu Dhabi Airport... seeing as i am going to be here for another 2 hours i thought why not write another one of these posts to get started. My first flight was good and a lot shorter than i thought it was going to be. thank you to mum and gem for bringing me to the airport this morning and buying me a nutella crepe in the airport .. that was very much appreciated. I think i have walked all over Abu Dhabi airport at this stage as i sat for around 4 hours in terminal 3 then realised that my flight leaves from terminal 1.. to be fair the walk woke me up a bit. I really should have looked for those sleeping pods, it is so busy here every single seat in ... read more

Did you know that The Flintstones is banned in Dubai? They're not allowed to show it and so they don't. But Abu Dhabi do. My stint in South Africa now over, I was now on my way to London via what seemed like a joke as bad as the one above - a fifteen hour stopover in Abu Dhabi. No matter - I have a habit of making the most out of long layovers such as the ones I had in Singapore, Segovia, Seoul and Dusseldorf. Arriving in Abu Dhabi at 7.30am and departing for London at 2.00am the next morning, I pretty much had an entire day to check out the sights and sounds of Abu Dh... read more

Fabulous three night stopover on the way home at the Shangri-La, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi. The weather was very hot but dry and so not too uncomfortable. Our hotel was great to relax in with a couple of outdoor pools and a great view of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque across the water. We visited the Mosque which was an amazing building with lots and lots of marble and the biggest carpet in the world, soo large it was lowered in by helicoptor. We shopped in the gold souk and had a short tour through the city and lovely lunch in a revolving restaunt looking out over all over Abu Dhabi.... read more

Hey Guys! The day of my grand European adventure has arrived! I spent most of my morning just chilling out at home and brushing up on my dart skills, I've been informed that darts is pretty big in the UK pub scene and I want to show off my awesome skills (sometimes I actually hit the board). If there is one thing you can appreciate its that Perth International Airport is pretty basic, it's tiny but it does the job of facilitating one to leave the country. So I'm flying Edihad to Abu Dhabi with a 4 hour stop over in the middle of the night. The first leg of my trip is 11 hours and I can tell you, that for someone who is nearly 6ft tall it was a tight squeeze, add in the ... read more

There are a variety of elements which, when lumped together, collectively constitute a great city, and those separate elements are as varied as they are numerous. Abu Dhabi is a city which grew out of nothing but a simple but highly lucrative and expolitable oil discovery, and as such, the capital city of modern-day UAE is a dynamic and gleaming urban zone which possesses a few of those vital elements which make the city aspire to greatness. Size-wise, the city centre is high-rise yet compact, and strung together with an impressive crop of stores, eateries, hotels and other reference points of note which make for satisfying urban exploration. The Corniche is the prime stroller's terrain, and the Abu Dhabi skyline is an ever-evolving city feature which demonstrates the effects which wealth has had on the city. ... read more

Thanks to our airline, Ethiad, we are spending the day swaggin' out in the City Seasons Hotel in Abu Dhabi. There is an unlimited buffet for breaky, lunch and dinner, and the food is top notch. Also here is a list of things I have taken from the plane/hotel: Socks, earplugs, sleeping mask, toothbrush & mini toothpaste (x2), sewing kit, slippers, a razor & shaving cream, a nail file, q-tips, instant coffee packets, a comb (first time I've combed my hair all trip), various lotions and gels, bottled water, and I'm contemplating taking the beer opener but it looks to be low quality. Also, the flight here offered beer free of charge, which was kinda neat, but I don't get out much. Both Liam and I are extremely excited to return to the land of the ... read more

Well we woke up nice & early after a restless nights sleep. I think we both kept waking up as we knew we needed to be up & checked out of the hotel by 830am. John made the coffee as he usually does in the morning while I started gathering our things together to start packing up ready for our flights home. As we made our way down to reception we stopped again to look out at the race track below, you could never tire at looking out at the track. Again as we reached the main lobby the bellboy came racing over to us to take our suitcase from John & the carpark ticket also to bring the car up to us while we were checking out. Pedro was on the reception desk again & ... read more

After getting ready we drove threw the Yas tunnel to Spinnys which is like there bargain booze really & bought a £5.25 litre bottle of vodka which we were very pleased about then we headed for Yas shopping mall. So back threw the tunnel we went & th mall was right next to Ferrari world which looked amazing as did Yas water world I just wish we had more time here & my John was feeling 100% himself. We parked up nice & easy in the luxury parking again which was free & proceeded into the mall to find some food as by now we were both starving. The ... read more
