Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302Alex: The other day we went to the beach bright and early in the morning and had a little fun. On the way home we stopped by Kate' new Turkish friend's house. She was going to the beach and we asked if she would like to come up to our house to the pool in a little while. Then we organized the time for 2:00. We met her there and had more fun and then Kate and her Turkish friend and we came back to our house for chai and popcorn. She loves puppies, so we showed her the puppies in the bush. The neighbors feed them. I like to drink tea so I had 3 glasses of it. Mom didn't let me have a fourth, even though the tea pitcher was full to ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302As Nanny is winding up her stay, we are trying to mark the last few things off our "to-do" list. One of them was for me to go down to the Bodrum hamam on my own and luxuriate for an hour or so. Nanny and the kids left for the beach at the same time I got in the car and headed south. I parked in the lot next to the hamam and walked down to the castle to try again to pick up Nanny's jewelry. No luck: Monday is his day off. Then I trekked back up the hill to the hamam where I was happy to get clean. I picked a quiet day/time because I was the only person on the marble slab sweating it all out. It gave me the opportunity ... read more

We sure enjoyed our time in Turkey. The 3 of us had so much fun bargaining with the shop fellows and actually having fun talking to them. They were really charming to us. Arlene and Myrna did some jewellery purchasing with fellows following them with good deals as we went from shop to shop. We got a great appreciation of this city. It is a beautiful city of neat houses, resorts, shops and food. Would travel here again. The port was also so beautiful. ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302I cleared some pictures off the cameras today and have posted some pictures from the past as well as yesterday, but I think you can figure it all out from the captions.Yesterday we were supposed to go to Pamukkale, but I got no sleep and we put it off for a couple days. We decided to head to Bodrum to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. To our horror and surprise, it was the only film in the place that had been dubbed over to Turkish (no English subtitles either). So after a month of waiting, we were sorely disappointed. Alex nearly blew a gasket. We bundled everyone back into the Fiat and took them to have pizza and then we went to the Bodrum Castle. Nanny hadn't been there yet ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302We've had a very social 24 hours. Last night we had Amishay and his mom, grandmother and baby brother over for tea and cake and had a very nice time. We had to spend a fair amount of time consulting the dictionary, but we also played with the baby and looked at some of our Turkey travel photos together. The children also gave me some anniversary gifts. Kate negotiated for a salt and pepper set that says, "Bodrum" and Josh bought a family of five cats sitting on a straw mat. They scare me a little--the eyes are a little creepy. I'm a terrible person to buy gifts for. Luckily, Josh understands that this is my failing, not his. He laughs about it. I will, however, dutifully carry the creepy cats home to share ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302The Tomb of the Josh. Here we are in Ephesus. We have had a great archeological find. We have found the tombs of many great leaders. We have found the tomb of the Josh--bum, bum bum! Oh no! The Josh is emerging from his crypt. He is coming! Help us! Now, view the video...if you dare!New subject: Pirated Pokemon games. If you ever go to Turkey and go to the Bodrum market, you will see lots of odd Pokemon games like Quartz or Shiny Gold. People have taken the code from pokemon games and have hacked them to make new, illegal games. I was thinking about buying one anyway because I wanted to see what other people's creations look like. They are variations of old games that I haven't played. They have new options ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302Since we were back a late from Ephesus, it was a slow morning Sunday. Grandpa spent a good part of the day gathering his things. I drove down to town to the internet café to send off an email for him and find a hotel room in Istanbul. I ended up getting him a great deal ($65, including taxes and breakfast) just off Sultanahmet Square at the Hotel Nena which has gotten great reviews from both people on the internet and people we have met. After that, Grandpa couldn't avoid it any longer: we dragged him to the hamam. He still insisted on washing himself, but the boys got the full-body giggle scrub. They came out to the waiting and refreshment area in their towels, so I got a picture (btw- lots of people ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302We got up a little late yesterday after our late day/night on the boat trip. Grandpa wanted a quiet day, so we didn't stray too far from home. We had a morning trip to the pool then an excursion into Gundogan around lunch time to do errands. Nanny got a haircut; Kate went with her. Grandpa went to the internet café to do some business. Josh and Alex went with him and enjoyed playing around on one of the café computers. I went to the grocery store to provision the house. One of my stops was at a roadside fig stand where they sell figs in small and large baskets. When I was done, we all met back up at the café so I could post to the blog. Grandpa wasn't done, so I ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302There has been no internet at the house for the last several days. Luckily it has been timed with the arrival of a car at our house, but we've been out running around and haven't gone into town to blog for a couple of days.Nanny and Grandpa arrived Monday night. We were hoping that they would manage to make it to the house before dark so that they wouldn't have as tough a time as we had finding the place, but no such luck. They relied upon the kindness of German strangers to help them get to the house. There was much rejoicing. I believe there was an entire suitcase filled with books, movies, peanut butter and other assorted gifts. We all stayed up until past 11pm talking and hearing about their adventures and ... read more

Geo: 37.0391, 27.4302Sometimes you don't know what fun surprises the day will hold. Yesterday we didn't have any special plans. We went to the pool where I talked the kids into doing a raft relay with their French friend Leia. That worked very well until one child decided the game was over. Oh well. Later we headed down to the beach. It was pretty windy and things got even windier while we were there. The kids snorkelled until someone decided that blowing water through the snorkels at other people was more fun and that became a game for a while. Amishay's family ended up leaving a little early from the beach because of all the wind and a tired baby. I asked if we could come by and show Amishay a couple games that we brought ... read more
