The last two days in Amsterdam have been very cool and a little bit too cool for our summer wardrobes. The hostel accidentally overbooked, and so the boys are splitting a hotel for the next two nights. Andy and I are going to Veneendaal tomorrow to see where Renate lives and just to get a breather from the hustle of the city. We leave on Sunday for Brussels. Not much else is new. The boys met some girls from Switzerland last night and should be meeting up with them tonight. (That brightened their day I'm sure.) We hope you are all enjoying the summer weather in Omaha and abroad. Thanks for all the e-mails dad, we're thinking of you often. Wanda and Netsy... read more

Yes, thats right...Im very angry right know. Well, I feel many emotions right know. I just missed my train to Stuttgart. It was one of those crazy close calls. I was probably 5 minutes late. I just ended up waking up late. I am kicking myself becase I took a shower and if I had not, I would have made it. I had some crazy problems with the metro that I have not had since coming here...stops being close, etc. I know you all must be saying: "Oh that sucks Dan. You have to spend another day in romantic Paris." Well, there is a lot more that goes into it than that. First off, I have had a romantic ride with Paris. But I am ready to go. I want a change to the German culture ... read more

Well, Les is up, up and away en route to Canada. In fact, she was up, up and away before I made it back to San Pietro metro station!! We were at the airport in lots of time and it is a good thing we were as the lineup for the 3 Air Canada agents was incredibly long. We learned from a fellow traveller that Air Canada has only been on its own here since April, that they used to fly under the El Italia umbrella but now have their own stations at the airport. They obviously have not had enough time to get any kind of electronic check in organized because we stood in line with people who did not have tickets or who had lots of check in luggage even though Les had both ... read more

June 1st 2005 Bayswater, London, England. In the time since Stonehenge I've done a few odd cash-in-hand jobs, nothing permanent, just some menial stuff to earn a little dough and waste a lot of time. Most advertised jobs that I see and might otherwise apply for require permanent staff - they emphasise PERMANENT - and since I have no intention of staying beyond three months, I don't apply for those. Soon enough I'll give in and go for a few waitressing jobs, which I have just enough experience to be comfortable in, but I would prefer not to. So for now I'll keep plugging at jobs like reception and childcare, for which I have only a little experience but am determined to get. Self-sabotage, perhaps, who knows. I don't really want a job - strange, that, ... read more

We are here in London (Westminster). The plane ride was actually a lot of fun. I sat next to guy from London. He and I took advantage of the free drinks and had an ice cream fight. I'm sure they loved us! When I got to London, my bag was still over the Atlantic. (It had gotten on the wrong flight). The guy from the plane and I got breakfast and he helped me with the train. I wandered around London killing time and trying not to think about my lost luggage. I went to the Tate Modern. It seemed a little overrated...but it was nice. I met Charles as scheduled and went back the hostel, where my bag still hadn't been delivered. We went to the store and got picnic supplies and had a nice ... read more

Hey all, I survived the massively rainy UK. Well, mostly it was Scotland. I met up with a friend, Steve, in Switzerland on the 24th and we flew to London for a one day stopover. It's amazing what you can see in one day. After we flew to Edinburgh, and ended up on an amazing hop on-hop off bus tour through the highlands. I love Scotland, despite the crazy weather. I've been lucky too, and have eaten decent food from the pubs. Other people haven't been as lucky :) Steve and I parted ways in Fort William, which is next to Ben Nevis, the big mountain in Scotland. I spent another night there doing some small hikes and walks, and then went on to Oban. Oban is a really cute little town, I recommend it. I ... read more

Hi everyone!! I have now arrived in Florence, well yesterday I did. First, I must say that I am in love with Italy. The people are great, especially the Italian men, and so are the views. I cant write much, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I am safe and having a great time. Take care, I must go on a field trip now. Dad, this is way better than any of the field trips I have heard you took a.k.a. ditching class to go to the movies. I love you all!!... read more

So we are in the U.K so it rained today. It was ok. Yesterday we arrived in Oxford, after taking the Chunnel and chaning trains in London. We met up with Jen had a beer at a pub. It was fun. Today Alex and I had an English breakfast: baked beans, cooked tomatoes, potates, bacon and sausage and an egg, plus toast and fruit. It three oclock, we have not eaten since, except these free crackers we got at the station, not recommended. We then headed off to London. We walked through Hyde Park, saw the Diana memorial, very boring, looked like a big wadding pool, saw rotten row and people riding on it, saw the changing of the guard, accidently and St James's palace. We also saw Buckingham Palace and Big Ben as well as Westminister Abbey. ... read more

It happened so quickly. I'm flying home tomorrow, mixed sadness and anticipation. I love Rome - it's noisy and crowded and hot, but I love it. But, I miss my family too. I'm plotting ways to get us all here for a year so that we can explore the city and surroundings at a leisurely pace..... The day before yesterday we hurt ourselves by staying out for 14 hours and walking for probably 12 of them. In the blistering heat. We went to see if we could get into the Vatican Museums and see, especially, the Sistine Chapel. Once again, the lineup was a good 2 hours long, so we decided to do something else. First of all, though, we had coffee and a pastry to fortify ourselves for the day. This time, we chose the ... read more
