Wow, we don't even know where to start. Our 3 days in Paris were crazy and jam-packed. I think our legs and feet are going to fall off. The weather was nuts - sunny for a few minutes and then downpours. I'm so glad Kev convinced me to bring my jacket. Day1 - We climbed the Eiffel Tower to level one only. A pretty amazing view - We'll post some pictures. We then took the metro to Sacre-Coeur Basilica, which was soo pretty. Actually we took the metro everywhere, it's so efficient. We also saw Notre Dame, and I tried to picture Quasimodo living there, like in the Disney movie. We crashed at 7 pm, haha, in our hostel. By the by, the night before we stayed in this little hotel right by the train ... read more

Well, it´s our last night in Paris and we are definitely sad to go. This city is truely beautiful, the culure is great and we stayed with Julie, a friend of Brady´s aunt. She was busy with school while we were there, so we didnt see her much, but she gave us some great ideas of what to do in the city. Everything in the city was amazing, the Arc de Triumph, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, everything was almost surreal because you see so much about all of these places and finally when you see them in person it is interesting. We climbed the stairs at the Eiffel Tower to the top, we saw the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, eveything was great. The food here is really expensive, but delicious none the less. We ... read more

So, we rented a car in amsterdam - got a 2 door ford ka, super cute and tiny and blue. marc drove - my last experience with a stick shift resulted in a broken clutch....yeah, i'm a bit special. so my maternal grandfathers family is from olst, a tiny village in the eastern part of the country. so off we go, driving, driving, driving. we get there and it's market day! so i think that we were the only people to actually visit from outside of the village in a long time - we actually found people that didn't speak english. and i'm happy to report that when i would go up to a counter they automatically spoke to me in dutch, made me feel like i fit right in. so at the end of the ... read more

Europe June 16th 2007

After a quick start to our first weekend in Italy by visiting Siena and San Gimignano, we decided to extend our travels further and planned a day trip to Pisa and Lucca, seeing as we are only about 1 hour east of Pisa and Lucca is maybe 20 minutes north of that. When you arrive in Pisa, you really only have one thing on your mind: the leaning tower. Unfortunately, the train station (in what is most likely a clever or desperate attempt by the city) is on the opposite side of the city from the tower. So, in order to get there you need to either walk through the entire city of Pisa in a straight line, or take one of the most crowded busses you've ever seen since they are all packed with lazy ... read more

Garmisch-PartenkirchenAssi Visamo Hello! June 15, 2007 a group of four exchange students of Technische Universität Darmstadt (3 Finns & 1 American) rented a car and drove down to southern Germany to spend a long weekend near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Now after visiting the place I can tell it is a great place to spend a summer holiday - especially if you like outdoors activities like hiking, biking, swimming or mountaining climb. It takes about 4-5 hours to drive down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen from Darmstadt. We stayed on autobahns and trusted our way to the Navigator. "She" said to follow first the autobahn A5, then A6 to Heilbronn, then A81 to Stuttgart, then A8 towards München and finally A95 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Estimated travelling time: 4 hours and some minutes. All went well, except for we got stuck for... read more

Another brief stop-over in Winchester, catching up with Karen, re-reading Harry Potter, going onto Campus to enable downloading of all my emails! Caught up with Helen, and went round to Jon & Kate’s for dinner - lovely - it was hard work, we were experimented on with chocolate meringue… I’ll take that kind of experimentation any day! Into town to pick up some more travel bits and pieces, then out to Jeanette’s for a BBQ, which was relaxing, fun, and a chance to catch up with people! Off to the Hitchens late Friday evening, ready for a 7am wake-up for a holiday in France - somewhere, I don’t know where, I’m assuming somewhere near Le Havre so we can go from Portsmouth! ... read more
